Bigi's tips for March

I love it when music hisses, crunches, hums and challenges my listening habits – or when it simply touches me deeply. Preferably both! Here are my March concert tips for my fellow emotional people.

Tuesday, 3 March – Close Encounters Festival

Oh, là, là! A world premiere!
The Close Encounters Festival alternates between Georgia and Switzerland. This year's edition will feature the premiere of "Zugzwang", a composition by Tomas Korber which he wrote during a year-long residency awarded by the City of Zurich. This will be followed by a performance of the electroacoustic opera "Homo Freq" by three Georgian musicians. I am really looking forward to this evening.

Friday, 6 March – Laura & Luzius Schuler: Mandà in Lunga

In collaboration with the Currents Festival, siblings Laura and Luzius Schuler are set to perform in the ZHdK's organ hall. I can't wait to see this venue!
He will play the organ and she will play the violin. Their music is minimalist, introspective and meditative — and beautiful. It's no coincidence that their debut album was released on Nik Bärtsch's Ronin Rhythm Records label. Fans of Kali Malone and Ellen Arkbro shouldn't miss this evening. Come and immerse yourself.

Friday, 13 March – 20 Jahre Heidi Happy

To celebrate this milestone, Swiss singer Priska Zemp has released an album featuring 20 songs. She collaborated with 20 musicians who have influenced and supported her throughout her career. Each song is more beautiful than the last. As if that weren't enough, Heidi Happy invited four of the musicians to Moods as guests: Büne Huber, Wallis Bird, Rebekka Lindauer and Handsome Hank. Wow! We congratulate them — and celebrate with them!

Sunday, 22 March – Dominique Fils-Aimé

Anyone who thought they could relax after the hustle and bustle of M4Music was mistaken: on Sunday, it's straight back to Moods to see Canadian singer Dominique Fils-Aimé. Creative, enchanting vocal jazz and soul with that certain something – no wonder Dominique has already won two Juno Awards.

Monday, 23 March – Rachel Eckroth Trio

Jazz is a must, of course! In 2023, Rachel Eckroth (also known as St. Vincent's keyboardist) released her live album "Humanoid" with Tina Raymonds on drums. Together with bassist Emma Dayhuff, who has already performed on stage with Herbie Hancock and Cécile McLorin Salvant, the trio becomes an experienced all-female band. (We love it!) And the music? Cool, classic, and almost old school.
