28 years ago, the city of Aarau made it possible for Stephan Athanas to spend time in Cairo. This adventure turned into a music project that shaped the following years of his work: Athanas' ContempArabic Ensemble. Since then, the ensemble has been touring across Europe and North Africa, creating surprising music with strong Arabic influences (quarter-tone scales, rhythms, taqsim), combined with elements from European jazz (harmonies, improvisation, rhythm and groove). On this tour they present a new program composed by Stephan Athanas especially for this ensemble, including the new album Bil Laedi Askara.
