The Kaan Peeters Quartet brings together not just four musicians, but the world. Benjamin Kissola Gonçalves on bass, Martin Maron on drums and Sara El Hachimi on saxophone, together with bandleader, composer and pianist Kaan Peters, create the foundation for music that lives in the now. An expression of a chaos of inspiration: from spirituals, church music, ragtime and other forms of jazz to the modernity of pop and hip-hop. The compositions and arrangements unite all these worlds, creating new perspectives on old and new traditions.

The Big Tusk

The Big Tusk is about the philosophy of the prehistoric walrus. This mammal is said to be the source of all existing life energies, and four mystical relics found in the depths of prehistoric times are said to bear witness to this belief: the Sacred Trumpet, the Drum of Destiny, the Celestial Lyre and the Ivory Organ of a Sacred Temple. Well, maybe so – sadly, there&#x27;s no proof. In any case, nowadays The Big Tusk is a promising French-Swiss band from the other side of the &quot;Röschtigraben&quot; that turns conventions on their head and explores the boundaries between improvised and electronic music in a fascinating new way. Even the walruses would dance to this intoxicating jazzy-groovy electro live show.

The JazzBaragge Wednesday Jam offers an important platform for the Swiss jazz jam scene. After the musical opening of the jam band, lively and exciting sound conversations begin between musicians who spontaneously meet on stage, reflecting the diversity of jazz in all its facets. The JazzBaragge Wednesday Jam is supported by the non-profit association JazzBaragge. There is no presale for JazzBaragge, only box office.

A grand piano at the centre, surrounded by electronic instruments, Uruguayan drums and polyrhythms, drum sounds created by the trumpet and sub-basses: with their new trio project vibe factor, Diego Piñera (drums, percussion), Omar Sosa (grand piano, synthesiser) and Joo Kraus (trumpet, vocals, effects) embark on an extraordinary musical journey that takes them across the globe. Take a trip to the Latin American music of Uruguay and Brazil, groove to odd metres and hip-hop beats accompanied by the trio&#x27;s creative, genre-bending sound and infectious energy. Depending on which way the wind blows, the journey takes them to the most diverse spheres.

Moods & jazzhane present

Şatellites is the newest hot act inspired by the 70&#x27;s Eastern Psych wave! The band plays anything from Anatolian rock to vintage psych beats, they describe their sound as retro-fresh psych à la Turk, a musical “laboratory” lost somewhere between the mysterious alleys of 70’s Istanbul and the scorching sun and crystal blue sea of Jaffa-Tel Aviv. Formed in early 2020, the group comprises of Itamar Klüger on the saz, baglama &amp; bouzouki, Ariel Harrosh on the bass, Lotan Yaish on the drums, Tsuf Mishali on the keys and synths, Tal Eyal on the percussions, and more recently the addition of talented Rotem Bahar on the vocals. The band has released their self-titled debut LP early in the year 2023 on London-based indie record label Batov Records, quickly becoming a favourite of radio stations internationally and public alike.

Jon Cleary

Born in England and based in New Orleans since many years, pianist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Jon Cleary is one of the most established artists in the Delta. As a sought-after musician, he has played and continues to play with colleagues of the caliber of Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, B.B. King, Ryan Adams and Eric Burdon. He has also toured several times with Dr. John and John Scofield. Cleary has released several albums. His latest CD Go Go Juice was awarded a Grammy in 2016. Jon Cleary: &quot;I speak with a British accent but my musical accent comes from New Orleans.&quot; Cleary sings, plays the piano and all kinds of other instruments. It is impossible to imagine the music scene in New Orleans without him.

The art of jazz arranging has been around for 100 years. The Zurich Jazz Orchestra will trace the development of this art form for big band - a best-of program as a look back at our season theme The Art of Arranging. The journey begins in the 1920s, continues with the swing and big band era of the 1930s and 1940s and leads into the post-war period. Influential arrangers such as Bob Brookmeyer, Gil Evans, Carla Bley, Billy Strayhorn, George Gruntz and Mathias Rüegg will be in the spotlight and show how &quot;The Art of Arranging&quot; has developed over the past 50 years.

Caroline Chevin ft. Rose Ann Dimalanta

Two extraordinary musicians, whose paths have crossed again and again over the years, are fulfilling their wish to perform together for the first time: Caroline Chevin is known for her strong voice, her soulful songs that tell authentic stories. On top of this comes her top-class entertainment, with which she captivates every audience. Rose Ann Dimalanta, internationally sought-after pianist, singer and composer, known from her performances with Prince and in this country with Seven, commands the stage with her virtuoso playing. Her musical versatility makes her a fascinating artist. The collaboration between the two musicians promises a great musical synergy. They will play songs that have made them what they are today and tell each other stories from their musical lives. The two will be accompanied by the coriphiles Oli Keller on guitar and Jwan Steiner on drums.

Marcus Strickland Twi-Life

Growing up in Miami, Strickland always thought of music &quot;in a very mixed up way&quot;. He heard Haitian sounds, Afro-Cuban rhythms and southern rap in the streets, while at home his father would jump from Stevie Wonder to John Coltrane to P-Funk on his reel-to-reel deck. It became clear early on that Strickland played in two worlds: the old one, which belongs to his jazz heroes, and the new one, in which he cleverly weaves different genres into a colorful tapestry. Strickland&#x27;s band and concept project Twi-Life also thrives at the interface of jazz and hip-hop, in the twilight of both genres, so to speak. This play with twilight as a concept, which emphasizes both the dichotomy and the connection between day and night, emphasizes the necessity of venturing artistically beyond the boundaries of categories or genres. No-nonsense jazz at its finest.

Michelle David & The True-tones

At last! Michelle David &amp; The True-tones are coming back to Moods with a new album. Back in 2019, they showed how to create a rousing evening with classic soul. Since then, they have taken renowned festivals (from Pinkpop to North Sea Jazz) and clubs (from Spain to Scandinavia) by storm with their lively rhythms, powerful voices and strong melodies. In addition, the band&#x27;s previous albums have also been acclaimed by fans and critics - from Album of the Month at FIP Radio in France to one of the Albums of the Year at BBC Radio 6 Music (UK). In spring 2024, Michelle David &amp; The True-tones return with a new album. The band draws its inspiration from old gospel, the classics of the legendary label Stax Records or the recordings of Bobby Womack, to name but a few. The new record was recorded live - with the whole band in one room at the same time, which sounds energetic, authentic and captivating.

K.O.S Crew Dancehall Mood

Dancehall Mood is the monthly reggae and dancehall party at Moods. Like on every first Saturday of the month, the K.O.S crew will make the Moods club cooking with hot riddims. This promises an evening full of dancehall hits and reggae rarities, perfectly tuned to the respective audience and immaculately presented by the K.O.S crew and their guest.

The Herbaliser Band

Way back In January 1995, Ollie Teeba and Jake Wherry, a sample-based beatmaking duo from Twickenham, South West London, released their debut 12” single ‘The Real Killer’ on UK label Ninja Tune. The Herbaliser were deeply immersed in Hip Hop culture and heavily into digging around in dusty record bins looking for funky samples. As well as jazz and soul records, they had a particular taste in old movie soundtracks, which would become a particular characteristic of their production sound. Inspired by funk bands, the duo decided to tour with a full live band from 1999 onwards. On the spring tour, The Herbaliser will be playing music off Band Session 1 &amp; 2, released in 2009. All but Kaidi Tatham and Jake Wherry from the original line-up wil be on the Moods stage.

Sasha aka Semtex travelled to London to Nicky Blackmarket&#x27;s record shop as a 16-year-old with no knowledge of English, where he first came across drum and bass music. In 1991 he founded the event label Jur Records, and a few years later he opened the &quot;Jungle Underground Recordstore&quot; in Aarau&#x27;s old town. Sasha is open-minded: Thanks to his extensive collection of 16,000 records, he plays everything from newbreak, trip hop and lounge to hard abstract drum and bass - but only on vinyl!

corto.alto is the brain-child of award-winning multi-instrumentalist, composer &amp; producer Liam Shortall. Hailing from Glasgow, Scotland, this genre-defying producer brings together influences from Hip-Hop, Broken Beat, Electronica, Dub and Punk with an informed Jazz sensibility. corto.alto sets to continue his exploration into the world between improvisation and electronica, all while animating the dance floor.

Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange is the Berlin project of Ziggy Zeitgeist, known to many as the drummer of the Australian neo-soul collective 30/70. With his four-piece band, he transfers the energy of a never-ending rave to a fascinating live setting between broken beat, psychedelic dub grooves and excursions into disco and funk. For fans of the London jazz scene, Gilles Peterson, Kamaal Williams, Byron the Aquarius or Alexander Nut.

Susana Baca

With Susana Baca, an icon of the Afro-Peruvian music tradition comes to Moods. Her international breakthrough came in 1997 with her first album on David Byrne&#x27;s (Talking Heads) &quot;Luaka Bop&quot; label. The Peruvian singer is an institution in her homeland. In 2011, she was even briefly Minister of Culture of the Peruvian government. At the center of her music is an exploration of the heritage of her traditions, which she has explored together with her husband on ethnomusicological journeys through Peru. Her new album, &quot;Palabras Urgentes,&quot; was produced by American composer Michael League (Snarky Puppy). It marks a new high point in the 50-year career of the singer and ethnomusicologist.
