Grammy-nominated US jazz guitarist Julian Lage is an exceptional talent: he began playing with musicians such as Carlos Santana, Pat Metheny, Kenny Werner, Toots Thielemans and Gary Burton at the age of eight, captivating audiences with his impressive technical skill and emotional depth. Together with his brilliant and well-rehearsed trio, consisting of bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Dave King, Julian Lage Moods presents his latest records: his second Blue Note long-player &quot;View with a Room&quot; (2022) and the accompanying EP &quot;Layers&quot; (2023). The latter was even nominated for a Grammy in 2024. Always scouring American music history, Julian Lage always keeps an eye out for new trends and creates music with fresh melodies and his unmistakable precision.

The JazzBaragge Wednesday Jam offers an important platform for the Swiss jazz jam scene. After the musical opening of the jam band, lively and exciting sound conversations begin between musicians who spontaneously meet on stage, reflecting the diversity of jazz in all its facets. The JazzBaragge Wednesday Jam is supported by the non-profit association JazzBaragge. There is no presale for JazzBaragge, only box office.

Nina Reiter MetaLogue

Album Release «evolving»

The newly formed 10-piece ensemble MetaLogue, led by singer Nina Reiter, is reviving the music of Lucerne composer Mani Planzer, who died in 1997 and was almost forgotten. As a musician, composer, organist, teacher, choirmaster and big band leader, Planzer had a decisive influence on the cultural landscape of Central Switzerland. He was awarded the Lucerne City Prize for Art and Culture in 1981 and the Lucerne Living Space Prize posthumously in 1998. The band name &quot;MetaLogue&quot; refers to Planzer&#x27;s penchant for wordplay and symbolises the symbiosis of the various elements that come together in this project. On the one hand, it is the young musicians who bring Planzer&#x27;s music into the light of the present and allow the audience to participate in a musical dialogue that takes place far away from the mainstream. On the other hand, it is the lyrics of singer Nina Reiter, who picks up on Planzer&#x27;s pioneering spirit in the synthesis of jazz and poetry, thus creating a meta-level to the previously instrumental compositions. On the occasion of the upcoming anniversary – Planzer would have celebrated his 85th birthday in 2024 – the Mani Planzer Big Band and the MorschAchBlasorCHester will pay tribute to the musical bridge-builder, trailblazer and pioneer with works arranged by Nina Reiter.

The American jazz pianist Peter Madsen can look back on a successful career spanning over 40 years. His breakthrough came in 1987 when world star Stan Getz invited him to join his band. Since then, he has played with the who&#x27;s who of the jazz scene - from Benny Golson, Stanley Turrentine to Chris Potter, Joe Lovano, Kenny Garrett, Dewey Redman, Don Cherry, Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker. In 2001, Peter moved from New York to Austria, where he met the exceptional talent David Helbock and became his teacher, mentor and friend. In the meantime, David Helbock has grown out of his former teacher&#x27;s footsteps and is himself a multiple prizewinner of the world&#x27;s largest jazz piano solo competition in Montreux, has released over 20 albums as a leader and is celebrated by the press. For this joint project, Peter Madsen and David Helbock have brought on board the best rhythm section that Austria has to offer in jazz. Raphael Preuschl and Herbert Pirker have been a well-rehearsed team for over 20 years and are the most sought-after bass-drums duo in Vienna.

Experiencing music together is at the heart of the family concert series at Moods. There is something for everyone, so there are no children&#x27;s songs, just interactive concerts that invite you to dance and marvel. In a relaxed and happy atmosphere, families have the opportunity to explore the colourful world of musical styles together and get caught up in the excitement. An exciting live experience of music, poetry and performance: Andrina Bollinger invites you into her castle, her garden, her world full of secrets and thoughts. She sings with a unique, earthy voice that alternates between singing, shouting and humming. Accompanied by drummer Arthur Hnatek and bassist Jules Martinet, she plays synthesizer, Telecaster guitar and drums. Children of all ages are welcome to this concert. We try to keep the volume at a reasonable level, but we still recommend ear protection for the little ones. B.U.T.C.H.E.S. & F.A.G.S. and Moods present: 

Sagil Ilyas Md. Amin is an interdisciplinary artist currently in his fourth semester of fashion design studies at the HGK in Basel. In his works, Sagil addresses his Swiss-Malaysian roots as well as his queer identity and comments on contemporary issues from this perspective. He weaves these topics into his works, which include sketching, draping, photography, painting, writing, performance and music, and which often flow into and complement each other in different projects. &quot;BOYTOY&quot; as a series deals with the idea of projection, phenomenology and consumption of sex and intraspecific relationships between people from the artist&#x27;s perspective. Velvet Rage are nights you want more of: We combine the energy of a party night with concerts and performances. The style of Jenys, a project of 22 years old electronic musician born in Russia and currently based in Paris, can be defined as a beautiful fusion of crystalized IDM and catchy-tune pop music. She mostly known for her works using masterly intense voice-morphing blended with a glitch-core grooves such as the ballads «Being here» and «Hometown», both are the parts of her debut EP «S.ncerity». This time Jenys prepared a new live show full of vivid dreams and infatuation.

Cris Trópica, the urban Indian of Rio de Janeiro, sets herself the goal of spreading the extensive Brazilian music culture, with all its roots and influences, in Europe. In her project BelezaPuraSomSistema, she regularly cooperates with DJs from home and abroad who share her passion for Brazilian music. She will close the party with hot Brazil beats.

The Kaan Peeters Quartet brings together not just four musicians, but the world. Benjamin Kissola Gonçalves on bass, Martin Maron on drums and Sara El Hachimi on saxophone, together with bandleader, composer and pianist Kaan Peters, create the foundation for music that lives in the now. An expression of a chaos of inspiration: from spirituals, church music, ragtime and other forms of jazz to the modernity of pop and hip-hop. The compositions and arrangements unite all these worlds, creating new perspectives on old and new traditions.

The Big Tusk

The Big Tusk is about the philosophy of the prehistoric walrus. This mammal is said to be the source of all existing life energies, and four mystical relics found in the depths of prehistoric times are said to bear witness to this belief: the Sacred Trumpet, the Drum of Destiny, the Celestial Lyre and the Ivory Organ of a Sacred Temple. Well, maybe so – sadly, there&#x27;s no proof. In any case, nowadays The Big Tusk is a promising French-Swiss band from the other side of the &quot;Röschtigraben&quot; that turns conventions on their head and explores the boundaries between improvised and electronic music in a fascinating new way. Even the walruses would dance to this intoxicating jazzy-groovy electro live show.

A grand piano at the centre, surrounded by electronic instruments, Uruguayan drums and polyrhythms, drum sounds created by the trumpet and sub-basses: with their new trio project vibe factor, Diego Piñera (drums, percussion), Omar Sosa (grand piano, synthesiser) and Joo Kraus (trumpet, vocals, effects) embark on an extraordinary musical journey that takes them across the globe. Take a trip to the Latin American music of Uruguay and Brazil, groove to odd metres and hip-hop beats accompanied by the trio&#x27;s creative, genre-bending sound and infectious energy. Depending on which way the wind blows, the journey takes them to the most diverse spheres.

Şatellites is the newest hot act inspired by the 70&#x27;s Eastern Psych wave! The band plays anything from Anatolian rock to vintage psych beats, they describe their sound as retro-fresh psych à la Turk, a musical “laboratory” lost somewhere between the mysterious alleys of 70’s Istanbul and the scorching sun and crystal blue sea of Jaffa-Tel Aviv. Formed in early 2020, the group comprises of Itamar Klüger on the saz, baglama &amp; bouzouki, Ariel Harrosh on the bass, Lotan Yaish on the drums, Tsuf Mishali on the keys and synths, Tal Eyal on the percussions, and more recently the addition of talented Rotem Bahar on the vocals. The band has released their self-titled debut LP early in the year 2023 on London-based indie record label Batov Records, quickly becoming a favourite of radio stations internationally and public alike.

Whether blues-rock trio or big band, advanced workshops or individual performances, original compositions and standards, the pop/rock/jazz department of Musikschule Konservatorium Zürich (MKZ) is excellently represented in its entire breadth. The proven concept with main and side stage ensures real festival character.

Vincent Glanzmann

Vincent Glanzmann&#x27;s playful way of working conceptually makes him an active part of the progressive music and sound art scene. In his electro-acoustic sound design performances, Glanzmann cultivates a careful and exciting use of microphones and percussion elements. Inspired by the high-profile, artistic productions of Berlin-based dance choreographer Sasha Waltz, Vincent Glanzmann releases the solo percussion album SZSHH (esc.rec) as a tribute to the artist.

The trio of Christian Wolfarth, Frantz Loriot and Jason Kahn has become one of the most adventurous collaborations in the Swiss free improvisation scene. What sets them apart from other groups is their strong background as solo artists. The unwavering autonomy of each musician thus creates such a strong foundation for the group&#x27;s playing that the music often seems to be on the verge of complete disintegration, only to find itself again in a radical approach to free improvisation that can truly be called that here.
