Chris Wiesendanger Solo

In the music of Chris Wiesendanger, concentration and presence are at the center. Polyphonic and polyrhythmic music unfolds from this still center. Multi-layered sound fabrics and superimposition of movement sequences stand in contrast to emptiness and open space. The music spreads out, creates resonance, brings about change, and returns to silence.

His solo concerts are deeply rooted in the jazz piano and blues traditions, but he is also intimately familiar with the literature of classical and new music. He explores traditional playing techniques as well as new ways of creating sound inside the piano. He also works on extensions, overdubs and changes to the acoustic piano sound through electronics.
