Singing violinist Andrea Kirchhofer and violin-playing singer Irina Ungureanu celebrate the premiere of their musical adventure as a duo. Keen to explore new territory and experiment with language, they create a new soundscape with two violins and two voices, Swiss German and English lyrics, and the occasional interjection of electric guitar. With a minimalist setup, the two musicians lead us into a colourful and melancholic sonic universe full of shrill miniatures, pictorial and slightly bizarre lyrics, fragments of text and an untamed variety of violin sounds. The limited range of the violins and voices calls for unusual arrangements, opening doors to rare sound worlds in the process. Irina Ungureanu, who has a background in contemporary and Romanian folk music, has recently started writing her own Swiss German songs for the duo with Anna Trauffer, &quot;Pelz&quot;, and for &quot;Bondar&quot;. Andrea Kirchhofer&#x27;s combination of voice and violin continues a path she explored until 2018 with her quartet/trio Atrium. The two musicians come together through their play with language and their experiences with musical theatre and new folk music. Since 2024, they have been performing together on stage with the Romansh and Romanian songs of the quintet SORAS.

Habib Koité is one of the great stars of world music. With charisma and skill, he brings the rich musical culture of Mali to a wide audience. His guitar style, inspired by the ngoni lute, combines fine playing with rhythmic drumming and characterizes his special sound. His songs tell of everyday life, history and society in Mali - deeply rooted, but open to the world. His new project is called Mandé Sila - an acoustic quartet that celebrates the diversity of West African musical cultures. Habib Koité is accompanied by three virtuoso artists: the balafon master Aly Keïta (Ivory Coast), the kora player Lamine Cissokho (Senegal), who comes from a famous griot family, and his long-time percussionist Mama Koné (Mali). Together they celebrate the Mandé Sila, the musical path of the Manding empire, which unites the languages, cultures and musical diversity of West Africa. Mandé Sila is not just a musical project, but a moment of cultural encounter and harmony between the artists. The repertoire consists of original compositions that come to life through the mastery of traditional instruments and the fusion of different styles - from West African rhythms to oriental and jazzy influences.

Marta Pereira da Costa

Marta Pereira da Costa is an instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader who masterfully plays the Portuguese guitar. She broke tradition in a field historically dominated by men, becoming the first woman to play the Portuguese guitar professionally in Fado. In 2014, she received the Instrumentalist Award from the Amália Rodrigues Foundation, and in 2016, she released her self-titled debut album with Warner Music Portugal, featuring renowned artists such as Rui Veloso, Dulce Pontes, Camané, Richard Bona, and Tara Tiba. Since then, she has performed on prestigious stages including the Kennedy Center and the Lincoln Center, and her Tiny Desk NPR (2023) performance has surpassed one million views. More recently, she was honored with the Voz do Operário Composition Award (2024) and the Best Instrumental Award at the IPMA Awards (2025). Throughout her career, Marta has taken her music across five continents, performing in countries such as Australia, Brazil, the United States, China, India, Indonesia, Spain, France among many others—establishing herself as one of the leading ambassadors of Portuguese sound worldwide. Her current project transcends borders, presenting the Portuguese guitar as a voice that travels through the traditional sounds of Fado and Portuguese music while also exploring new musical landscapes such as jazz, Cape Verdean morna, Brazilian choro, and world music. Performing in trio format, Marta will be joined by João José Pita Junior on seven-string guitar and Carlos Miguel Antunes on percussion. Together, they will perform pieces from her new album Sem Palavras, such as Verdes Anos, Summertime, Dia de Feira as well as from her debut album (Terra, Encontro, and Fado Lopes). The audience will be invited on a journey of sounds and emotions, where the Portuguese guitar takes center stage—guided by Marta’s sensitivity, intensity, and elegance—for a performance that promises to be as powerful as it is unforgettable.

Karin Meier returns to continue her many years of great collaboration with the Zurich Jazz Orchestra. In addition to Karin&#x27;s own compositions, the program will also include new interpretations of jazz standards and pop classics, all arranged for the ZJO by Ed Partyka. The orchestra will perform with an expanded line-up, including French horn, tuba and a whole range of woodwind instruments to give the music additional textures and timbres. The orchestra will also play instrumental music by Ed Partyka, including the continuation and further development of the composition written for the orchestra&#x27;s 30th anniversary. The first movement of the work, There Will Be Another You, was premiered on October 2, and the piece will continue to evolve and grow until May 2026. As always, both the instrumental and vocal arrangements will be performed by the Zurich Jazz Orchestra&#x27;s outstanding soloists.

Fred Wesley wrote funk history alongside James Brown and George Clinton, serving as one of the genre&#x27;s architects. Now, he is starting a new chapter that connects him with his jazz roots and an exciting future: Generations. Generations is a versatile trio featuring Wesley on trombone, Leonardo Corradi on organ, and Tony Match on drums. The three musicians originally came together to pay tribute to legendary organist Jimmy Smith&#x27;s soulful jazz — and immediately found a musical chemistry that has kept them performing together to this day. However, the trio doesn&#x27;t limit itself to jazz. They groove through rap, soul, and funk together, creating a sound that is as versatile as it is rousing. Together, they elevate their groove and bring the rhythm to life.

To celebrate her anniversary, Heidi Happy has written a song with each of her twenty most inspiring encounters from the past twenty years. And at Moods Heidi Happy will be presenting her resulting album “20”, which will be released on February 6, 2026, with some illustrious guests! Büne Huber, Wallis Bird, Rebekka Lindauer, and Handsome Hank will join Heidi to take a look back onto her musical career to date. Folky singer-songwriter ballads, spherically dreamy hippie worlds and synth-pop with French charm - it&#x27;s all there. Sometimes very calm and unagitated, sometimes so moving that it&#x27;s hard not to dance along or howl with emotion.

Latin Night - Rompiendo La Rutina

We embark on excursions into two of the most important Latin worlds: Brazil and Cuba. We begin in Brazil, where we will hear soloists of the ZJO performing in a wide variety of rhythms such as samba, bossa nova, and frevo. The second set brings a premiere: the ZJO will perform at the Moods jazz club with the Cuban trumpet doyen Juan Munguía, who lives in Spain. At the age of 22, Munguía was brought into the band Irakere as Arturo Sandoval’s successor, where he remained for 15 years. Irakere toured the world and left its mark in Europe with concerts and albums. From 1995 to 1997, Munguía lived in Switzerland, taught here, and performed with local ensembles during that time. In addition to captivating salsa pieces, the evening will also feature arrangements with Latin American influences by Ed Partyka. We are particularly excited about the pieces arranged exclusively for the Zurich Jazz Orchestra by Munguía.

Skinny Bird performs the very finest eco-punk. With their homemade aesthetics made from cardboard boxes, the performance disguised as a concert is truly a recycled, holistic spectacle! Their songs and stories are taken directly from life and invite you to sing along and join in. Their songs rarely last longer than 30 seconds. Debora Gerber and Sarah Büchel stage them skillfully in punk style: if something goes wrong, it&#x27;s part of the program! It looks amateurish, but it is - but with great professionalism.

Manou Gallo

The path of the energetic bassist, drummer and singer led from the small town of Divo on the Ivory Coast to the biggest stages in the world. None other than the bass legend Bootsy Collins paved the way for Manou Gallo to be named one of the “Top 10 World Best Bass Players”! Gallo is pure power on the bass, mixing jazz, funk, groove, and Afro beat. Once you’ve experienced her, you immediately recognize her uniqueness: In her hands, the bass sometimes becomes a percussion element, driving the groove to fascinating heights. It’s no wonder Bootsy Collins calls her the “African Queen of Bass”. Other giants like Manu Dibango, Mamady Keita, Wyclef Jean, Marcus Miller, and Lucas van Meerwijk have also taken notice of her and shared stages with her. Proud of her African roots, Gallo says she has the musical freedom to play anything. And it’s precisely this freedom that you’ll find on stage: an explosive mixture of funk, jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and confident Afro grooves. With her technique and her music, Manou Gallo impressively proves that she is one of the best bassists in the world.

He is a jazz pianist, composer, music producer - and a fixture on the London jazz scene: Greg Foat. In his pieces, Foat mixes jazz and ambient with electronic influences, creating unique soundscapes that invite immersion and exploration. Greg Foat is an innovator, always pushing the boundaries of his music. He recently collaborated with Venetian electro legend Gigi Masin on the critically acclaimed «Dolphin». His creativity knows no bounds. His live releases are proof of this. On «Live at Can Rudayla, Ibiza», for example, he fuses analogue synthesizers with ambient house and space jazz, while on «Live at Villa Maximus, Mykonos», he combines more cosmic jazz sounds with psychedelic elements. Foat will perform at Moods with the living groove machine Moses Boyd. The young jazz drummer, who turns 34 this year, has been described by the Guardian as the poster boy of London&#x27;s jazz revival.

Bassekou Kouyaté & Amy Sacko

He is “a genius and living proof that the blues comes from Mali,” says Taj Mahal about his colleague Bassekou Kouyaté. He is the undisputed master of the ngoni (traditional West African long necked spit lute), which he has made internationally known by adding additional strings and using effects devices. With his extraordinary dexterity, he creates soundscapes that lie somewhere between blues, jazz and traditional Malian music. In his traditional Griotprogram “Folo Djelia” he reinterprets his parents&#x27; music and is accompanied by his wife, the fantastic singer Amy Sacko. A concert with a chamber music character that gets under your skin.

This year Bruno Spoerri is celebrating his 70th stage anniversary in Zurich - in 1954 he was awarded first prize at the Zurich Jazz Festival. The concert on November 12th will show two sides of his work; the first part with an acoustic jazz group, the second with technoid electronics. Piet Jan Blauw began his career as a visual artist, while also working as a percussionist. Early on he made objects and then began to build electronic instruments and art installations. Numerous installations and performances in Europe, the USA and Mexico followed. His performances are both auditory and visual experiences. Gabriel Schiltknecht is a percussionist with heart and soul. His musical career began with the formation SCHILDPATT. After training as a primary school teacher, he taught at the Swiss School in Accra/Ghana, played with important local musicians and acquired a wide-ranging knowledge of the drumming tradition.

Jasmine Myra is a saxophonist, composer and bandleader from Leeds and is part of the city&#x27;s vibrant, creative and cross-genre music scene, which is bursting with young talent. Her euphoric and uplifting sound draws influences from Bonobo, Ólafur Arnalds and Kenny Wheeler, artists whose music shares an emotive quality that you can also hear in Myra’s own compositions. La Sonora Mazurén are the latest representatives of Bogotá&#x27;s lively alternative music scene. The seven musicians are influenced by traditional rhythms and sounds from Ecuador, Colombia and Peru and enrich them with synths and electric guitar. This is how they have developed their very own sound, which can be described as trippy cumbia, psychedelic chicha or African fuzz. BCUC stands for Bantu Continua Uhuru Consciousness. Their music is made up of indigenous funk, hip-hop and punk energy. But instead of trying to classify and analyze the music, you should simply visit a live show: An absolute stunner! In recent years, BCUC has played with legends such as Femi Kuti and Saul Williams, fascinated audiences at the most important European festivals (Glastonbury, Roskilde, Womad, Fusion, Sziget and many more) and also won the prestigious Womex Artist Award. And should anyone still have any doubts as to whether it&#x27;s worth it: “without a doubt the best live act I saw” - Gilles Peterson “Loved their set, it was one of my highlights of a great weekend” - Nick Dewey, Glastonbury Festival “guaranteed to touch untapped corners of your soul” - Okayafrica “the most impressive newcomers this year” - The Guardian It all started in a shipping container in Soweto, South Africa, where the band members of BCUC met. The shipping container was converted into a community restaurant and stands next to the church where Desmond Tutu organized the escape of the most wanted anti-apartheid activists. This historical background is echoed in BCUC&#x27;s music: Their music is a hedonistic trance, but also as a weapon for political and spiritual liberation. The concert ticket is also valid for the party afterwards.

Yarima Blanco is an outstanding Tres Cubano player and one of the few outside of Cuba to master this unique three-stringed instrument. With her own septet, Son Latino, she combines various Cuban styles with Latin American influences. Her electrifying performances showcase not only her impressive technique on the tres, but also her powerful voice and charisma. Blanco perfected her skills during several years of study in Cuba and quickly became a sought-after artist, also making waves on the international jazz scene with the orchestra ANACAONA. Pancho Amat, international master of the tres cubanos, describes Blanco&#x27;s talent as exceptional. This concert recording was made with the support of Migros Culture Percentage.

Justina Lee Brown

Although the hearty and highly talented Nigerian singer Justina Lee Brown and her band have been thrilling audiences at all blues challenges for years, the blues is only one facet of her music. African and Caribbean influences, gospel, soul and R&#x27;n&#x27;B are also at the heart of her charismatic performances, in which she impresses as an energetic performer with a phenomenal voice. In her native Lagos, Justina Ogunlolu faced the tough struggle for survival as a street kid and fought her way through to the big stages of Europe with perseverance and stamina. After a few performances in Switzerland, Justina and Nic Niedermann crossed paths. The guitarist, composer and producer has been one of the driving forces in the Swiss blues scene for years. Nic becomes the new bandleader and puts together a top-class band for Justina. Justina Lee Brown finally gets the long-awaited opportunity to record her own songs, which she draws from a huge pool of intensive experience, and to realize them for her brilliant stage performances. Powerful big-city Blues, a rough voice and an intimate charm - this is what Lilly Martin and her band stand for. Thanks to her apperances with Philipp Fankhauser, Michael Bublé, Ellis Hall and Polo Hofer, for a long time she has not only been a name only on the Soul scene. Lilly, whos has settled in Switzerland, also drew attention to herself as a Vocal Coach in Swiss television. The new album «Minetta» clearly illustrates why the this woman from New York with Cuban roots acquired international recognition so quickly: she sings Blues with passion, Soul with sensuousness. The songs are influenced by personal stories from her urban background in Minetta Street, New York, where she grew up.

From her hometown of London, singer Summer Pearl is currently taking the music world by storm. Her sound of jazz, soul, hip-hop and dub, is reminiscent of the one of the great Erykah Badu, both powerful and touching at the same time. Summer Pearl herself describes it as &quot;a meditation on my past and a reflection of our present. It is both a personal and political message exploring black and female liberation and love gained and love lost.&quot;

A double premiere! Irina Ungureanu and Anna Trauffer will be on stage together for the first time. And: Irina Ungureanu will also perform her own songs in Swiss German for the first time. But Romanian folk songs from her childhood will also find a place in the programme. The two musicians will accompany each other with a multi-instrumental setup ranging from violin and zither to piano and various objects. You can look forward to a poetic, thoughtful, smiling and sometimes bizarre evening of words, sounds and songs.

The swirling Balafon playing of Aly Keita is a spectacle, the sticks seem to dance over the keys. Born into a musical family, since childhood Aly Keita has built and played his own instruments and has played as sideman with the best: Omar Sosa, Joe Zawinul, Rhoda Scott, Paco Séry, Karim Ziad, Pharoah Sanders, Paolo Fresu and many more. Today Aly Keita lives in Berlin, where he became acquainted with the Dutch drummer Marcel van Cleef and the Italian bassist Roberto Badoglio. In their music they wander between spectacular African rhythms, polyphony and elements of jazz, and blend these into a wonderful and unique sound.

SOYUZ is a creative collective from Minsk, Belarus, that combines the rich sounds of classical Brazilian music with a modern, global perspective. ‘Force of the Wind’, the third album of the trio consisting of Alex Chumak, Mikita Arlou and Anton Nemahai, builds unexpected bridges between the Música Popular Brasileira of the 70s and today&#x27;s Belarus. With a mixture of Russian and Portuguese lyrics, cosy-warm sounds and jazzy-groovy beats, SOYUZ create emotional compositions and wonderful, nostalgic moments that transcend language.

She is quite simply the underground icon of Arabic pop! The Lebanese songstress, songwriter and actress Yasmine Hamdan (Soapkills) effortlessly combines Western electropop with traditional Arabic sounds. Her second album «Al Jamilat» (2017) sounds like a journey through the different cultures. With her soft, yet clear voice, the world citizen blends Arabic texts with modern electrobeats, desert blues guitar riffs and Greek Bouzouki sounds. A songstress that can give you goosebumps. Die langjährige und sehr fruchtbare Partnerschaft zwischen Thomas Gansch und dem Zurich Jazz Orchestra wird auch dieses Jahr fortgesetzt. Neben Repertoire aus der Vergangenheit wird es auch neue Arrangements geben, die von Ed Partyka speziell für dieses Konzert geschrieben wurden und die Thomas Gansch als Komponisten und Multi-Instrumental-Solisten, aber auch als liebenswürdiges ‹Enfant terrible› präsentieren. Sicher ist, dass die wunderbaren Musiker*innen des ZJO für einige musikalische Überraschungen sorgen werden. Sicher ist auch: Band und Publikum werden einen unvergesslichen Abend erleben.

Die 1981 als Tochter einer Schriftstellerin und eines Regisseurs in der albanischen Hauptstadt Tirana geborene Elina Duni stand im Alter von nur funf Jahren erstmals auf einer Bühne. Seit ihren ersten musikalischen Schritten in Radio und Fernsehen hat sich viel getan: Heute ist Elina Duni ECM-Künstlerin und seit 2017 Preisträgerin des Schweizer Musikpreises. In diesem ZKB Jazzpreis Special trifft der Oud-Virtuose Rabih Abou-Khalil auf das Elina Duni Trio mit Marc Méan und Matthieu Michel. Eine einmalige Konstellation, die wohl so einige goldene Momente mit sich bringen wird. Das Konzert fand im Rahmen des ZKB Jazzpreis statt.

Joseph Bowie’s Big Band Funk - The Legendary Music of Defunkt

Joseph Bowie ist der Bruder des Big-Band-Musikers Byron Bowie und des Mitbegründers des Art Ensemble of Chicago, Lester Bowie. Joe selbst gründete 1978 die Punk-Funk-Jazz-Gruppe «Defunkt». Die Band veröffentlichte in den 1980er Jahren mehrere genreübergreifende Alben, und ihre Musik wurde als «einer der abenteuerlichsten Sounds des letzten Viertels des 20 Jahrhunderts» bezeichnet. In den letzten 20 Jahren hat Joe Bowie auch daran gearbeitet, diese Musik für Big Band zu adaptieren. Einer der Arrangeure, mit denen Joe seit 2011 zusammenarbeitet, ist Ed Partyka. Das ZJO freut sich auf einen energiegeladenen Abend mit tanzbaren Hits aus der langen Geschichte von «Defunkt».

Letztes Jahr feierte das Orchestra Baobab, eine der grössten Bands Afrikas, ihr 50-jähriges Bestehen. Ihre Geschichte beginnt im Herzen der Medina von Dakar im Senegal der späten 1960er Jahren und erstreckt sich über die ganze Welt und bis ins 21. Jahrhundert. Die Gruppe aus Sängern und Musikern vom ganzen Kontinent spielen eine Mischung aus afro-und lateinamerikanischen Stilen, internationalem Pop und traditioneller Griot-Musik. Nach dem ausverkauften Konzert vom letzten Jahr kehrt die Band diesen August zurück ins Moods. Vor und nach dem Konzert werden die beiden DJs Afreekaya &amp; Voilà Tim auflegen.

Welch ein Glück: Frau Schmidhauser ersteht eine Gitarre, findet jedoch nicht genug Zeit, um zu üben. Also übereignet sie das Instrument ihren Buben. Beat und Jürg machen nicht lange Federlesens und rocken los. Einige Zeit danach spielt Beat, inzwischen zum Schmidi gereift, mit 14 Jahren seinen ersten Gig. Heute, rund 1500 Konzerte und 46 Jährchen später, beglückt uns Schmidi zum letzten Mal live, denn – und zu unserem Bedauern – «es ist genug des Guten.» Er will sich fortan Dingen widmen, die in all den Jahren zu kurz gekommen sind und somit zwar nicht kürzertreten, aber breiter wirken. Unbeschreibliches hat Schmidi auf tausendundeiner Bühne erlebt, unterwegs mit «Stop the Shoppers», «HOT DC», «Los Hobos», «Chica Torpedo», «Traktorkestar», «Oso loco», mit Polo, Kuno, Endo, Büne, Sina, Lo &amp; Leduc – und immer wieder mit Jürg/Jiri, dem geliebten Brüetsch. Also dann: Bühne frei! Vor unseren Augen und Ohren schaltet Schmidi seinen Modus um: vom Künstlerleben zum Lebenskünstler.

Ein Jahr nachdem ihr fünftes Studioalbum Album «Longing Fever» den ‹Indie Suisse Album Of The Year Award› abgeräumt hat, ist Evelinn Trouble mit ihrer Band wieder auf Tour. Evelinn Trouble, bekannt für ihre kreative Rastlosigkeit, ihre virtuose Stimme und ihr eigenwilliges Songwriting hat ihrer Diskografie mit «Longing Fever» ein aufregendes Pop-Werk hinzugefügt – ein Bruch mit ihrer Psychedelic-Ära und trotzdem unverkennbar Trouble. Die in der DR Kongo Kinshasa geborene und in der Schweiz aufgewachsene Sängerin und Multi-Instrumentalistin hat in den letzten zehn Jahren ihren eigenen, hausgemachten Stil zwischen Afro, Neo Soul und Trip Hop entwickelt. Eine unvergessliche Stimme trifft auf kongolesische Perkussionsfreude und überraschende Flöteneinlagen und setzt Kräfte frei, bei denen der Optimismus zurückkehrt und das Tanzen unausweichlich wird. Ein Sound, der ein neues Gefühl der Zusammengehörigkeit schafft und das Versprechen, dass alles gut werden wird. Alina Amuri verbindet in ihrer Musik Einflüsse aus Lauryn Hill, Nina Simone und Alicia Keys mit einem frischen, lebendigen Twist. Alina wurde schon für SRF 3 Best Talent ausgewählt, war schon für den wichtigsten Schweizer Musikpreis nominiert (Swiss Music Awards) und gewann mit ihrem letzten Album (Chasing Traces) den Swiss Live Talent Award. An diesem Konzert wird Alina Amuri ihr nächstes Studioalbum «Back To You» vorstellen. Es ist die bisher persönlichste Platte und erzählt von ihrer Reise zurück in ihre Geburtsstadt Kinshasa, zurück zu ihren familiären Wurzeln.

Aus ihrer Heimatstadt London heraus erobert die Sängerin Summer Pearl zur Zeit die Musikwelt im Sturm. Ihr Sound aus Jazz, Soul, Hip-Hop und Dub, der an diejenigen der grossen Eryka Badu erinnert, ist mächtig und zugleich berührend. Summer Pearl beschreibt ihn als «eine Meditation über meine Vergangenheit und eine Reflexion über unsere Gegenwart. Sie ist sowohl eine persönliche als auch eine politische Botschaft, die sich mit der schwarzen und weiblichen Befreiung sowie mit gewonnener und verlorener Liebe beschäftigt.»

Yarima Blanco ist eine herausragende Tres-Cubano-Spielerin und eine der wenigen ausserhalb Kubas, die dieses einzigartige dreisaitige Instrument beherrschen. Mit ihrem eigenen Septett Son Latino verbindet sie verschiedene kubanische Stile mit lateinamerikanischen Einflüssen. Ihre mitreissenden Auftritte zeigen nicht nur ihre beeindruckende Technik auf der Tres, sondern auch ihre starke Stimme und ihr Charisma. Blanco perfektionierte ihr Können während eines mehrjährigen Studiums in Kuba und avancierte schnell zu einer gefragten Künstlerin, die auch mit dem Orchester ANACAONA in der internationalen Jazzszene für Aufsehen sorgte. Pancho Amat, internationaler Meister des Tres Cubanos, beschreibt Blancos Talent als aussergewöhnlich.

OORT CLOUD concentrates on the expansion of the classical guitar trio sound and discover new, unconventional ways of interaction, composition and improvisation. The instrumentation loses its typical role models through the experimentation with preparations, electronic effects, playing techniques, together with sophisticated concepts for composotion and improvisation. The concert took place as part of the ZKB Jazz Prize.

With A Shake Stew, Austria&#x27;s Jazz band of the hour, much is extraordinary. Starting with the line-up: two drummers, two bass players, two saxophones, a trumpet. Quasi two trios plus one. Their comet-like ascendance is also without parallel: a sold-out debut album, a closely-watched collaboration with Shabaka Hutchings and performances at all the renowned Jazz festivals from Frankfurt to Montreal, from Istanbul to Mexico, speak for themselves. And then there&#x27;s that sound: driving rhythms, the horns sometimes blaring, sometimes virtuoso, sometimes melodious, borrowings from Afrobeats, Funk and Swing. Music that reveals a hypnotic spell, one wants to soak up every note, to dance, to shake oneself and hope that it will never stop.

Sara El Hachimi’s music combines elements of jazz and singer-songwriter traditions and is characterized by a spirit of experimentation. Inspired by artists such as Samora Pinderhughes, Saya Gray, Esperanza Spalding, and Wayne Shorter, her work centers on expression, honesty, and reflection. The pieces process emotions and experiences through music and lyrics. With floating melodies, pulsating rhythms, and an understated groundedness, the quintet creates a warm, intimate sound that touches the listener and leaves room for discovery. The ensemble — consisting of vocals, alto and tenor saxophone, piano, synthesizer, bass, and drums — offers an authentic, poetic soundscape that seeks to heal and connect. Sara El Hachimi recognizes in music the power of communication — one that supports both ourselves and one another. Her compositions are philosophical, inviting, and never didactic, which lends them their particular authenticity. The quintet invites listeners to be present in the moment — human, aware, and close. Her music is an expression of genuineness and emotional depth that moves the audience and inspires reflection.

Espuma Antigua

Espuma Antigua — the “ancient foam” — rises from the depths of the sea, bringing old music back to the shores of the present, carried by wind and salt to the ears of today. The quartet, led by Geneva-based musician Flora Ageron, aims to create a dialogue between past and present — blending them into an electronic yet gentle cocktail. Their first album, Spleen Baroque, released in October 2021, was dedicated to forgotten women composers of the 17th century. Their new album, Continuo, is a tribute to the Earth and to traditional culture — to repetitive, enchanting melodies that unfold like endless stories told on summer nights under a starlit sky. Espuma Antigua delves into the Baroque repertoire, uncovering hidden treasures and bringing them to life in unexpected places. The group has performed at the Cully Jazz Festival, La Cité, Lavaux Classic, Jazz au Peuple, and at the Alhambra in Geneva as part of the Festival de la Bâtie.

Chip Wickham

Chip Wickham is a crossover artist between club culture and jazz, influenced by early collaborations with The Pharcyde, Nightmares on Wax and Matthew Halsall. His music thrives on emotional clarity, playful openness and stylistic diversity - carried by flute, saxophone and a top-class ensemble from the British jazz scene. At Moods, Wickham presents his new album The Eternal Now (2025, Gondwana Records), a homage to the creative moment beyond time - a journey into new sonic spaces with borrowings from Lonnie Liston Smith or David Axelrod. Co-produced by Matthew Halsall, it is Wickham&#x27;s most experimental work to date - an album that impresses with its playfulness, emotional depth and musical breadth.

With Big Hug, the Swiss rap icon BIG ZIS is releasing a collaborative music project. Building on the previous album «B:I:G - Bitte in Gross» (2024), a new, independent but collaborative work was created in close collaboration with over 23 artists from different generations and scenes. Retrospective and visionary, the album combines rap, pop, punk, doom metal and even noise, breaking down any genre boundaries and thus making visible a polyphonic, resistant network of formative Tinfas* of the Swiss music scene. The DIY of BIG ZIS is contrasted with the Do-it-Together (DIT) of the Future. New forms of a resistant but pluralistic language for Swiss music will be tested. With orchestras and icons such as Radon, Les Reines Prochaines, Eto*, Fatima Moumouni, Ester Poly, Jessica Jurassica (and many more), the Moods stage will be stormed. It&#x27;s Takeover Time, It&#x27;s BIG HUG Time! Zurich rapper Big Zis has been shaking up the male-dominated Swiss rap game since the late 90s with her clever lyrics, funny punchlines and provocative attitude. She has recorded several albums, made an award-winning music video, performed on pretty much every Swiss stage from antifademo to high culture institutions and won the 2020 Swiss Music Prize and the 2021 Zurich Art Prize. Musically, she combines hip-hop with jazz, punk and improvisation in an eloquent yet danceable rebellion against long-outdated social norms and the patriarchal order, delivering an urgent, clever, humorous and provocative work that is unique in the Swiss music landscape.

The Reines&#x27; concert program includes songs from their current album Scissor*hood, performative numbers and typographic projections from their in-house video kitchen. They tailor the world for themselves! Scissors stand for skill and zest for action, for independent, self-determined work and life. Scissors are needed for this, because they are the tools for making things yourself. Scissor*hood means sisterhood with scissors and scissor*hood means doing things together and knowing how.

Zurich Jazz Orchestra playing Rob McConnell

Rob McConnell (1935–2010) was a Canadian trombonist, composer, and arranger. He is best known for founding and leading the Grammy Award-winning big band The Boss Brass from 1967 to 1999. Rob McConnell&#x27;s big band music is firmly rooted in the jazz tradition, but offers clever interpretations of well-known jazz standards, challenging ensemble passages (for the musicians) and exciting ones (for the audience), as well as plenty of space for the orchestra&#x27;s soloists. Other hallmarks of Rob McConnell&#x27;s music are the expanded instrumentation (eleven brass instruments, including two French horns) and the subtle humor that runs through all his compositions. Ed Partyka met Rob in 1989, and the two remained in contact until Rob McConnell&#x27;s death. Partyka recalls: “He was an incredibly warm and funny person, which you can also hear in his compositions. In my opinion, he was also an underrated soloist on the valve trombone, surpassed in expression and virtuosity only by Bob Brookmeyer.”

Ever since the first day he picked up a pair of drumsticks, Mark Guiliana has been instinctively exploring and absorbing the music and rhythms that have been ever-present in his life. Fast forward to the present day and he has earned a formidable reputation as a world-class drummer, composer and thinker at the forefront of contemporary jazz and beyond. Guiliana’s artistry defies convention, weaving together a musical output beyond jazz with the ultimate goal of creating compelling musical narratives. Guiliana’s new album “MARK”, represents an introspective voyage into his creative depths. On the record, Mark performs solo on a wide array of devices; you can hear his quintessential grooves intermixed with intriguing percussive soundscapes, sublime tapestries of synthesisers and fragments of spoken word. “MARK” is an album that peels back the layers of Guiliana’s experiences, reflections, and the wisdom gleaned from a life immersed in music. It transcends genres and defies categorisation, floating in the boundless space of pure expression. Through music and through life, Mark looks into the mirror and asks eternal questions of identity and growth: who am I, where am I going and what do I stand for?
