German composer and pianist Claudia Döffinger presents her compositions and arrangements together with Australian singer Kristin Berardi with the Zurich Jazz Orchestra. Claudia Döffinger&#x27;s love for the sound of big bands is palpable through her fresh approach: she combines experimental sounds with dense chords. In this way, hip-hop, indie and funk merge organically with her works and yet sound entirely new. Claudia Döffinger is the winner of the Downbeat Student Music Award, won 1st prize at the Helsinki Jazz Composition Contest and 3rd prize at the Composition Contest Katowice. In addition to jazz standards and earlier original compositions, music from Kristin Berardi&#x27;s new album &quot;The Light and the Dark&quot; will also be heard in big band arrangements.

David Virelles Trio

Cuban-born pianist and composer David Virelles grew up in a musical home. He began learning to play the piano at a young age, immersing himself in the diverse Cuban musical tradition and discovering jazz greats such as Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk and Andrew Hill. After recording with Juan Pablo Torres and Jane Bunnett in Cuba, Virelles graduated from Humber College in Toronto and moved to New York City in 2009, where he studied composition with Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Henry Threadgill. Since then, he has collaborated with musicians as diverse as Andrew Cyrille, Bill Frisell, Chris Potter, Tomasz Stanko, Wadada Leo Smith, Hermeto Pascoal, Ravi Coltrane, Marcus Gilmore and many more. rrDavid Virelles has received various awards and prizes for his versatile, creative work, including the Oscar Peterson Prize. In 2023, his trio album Carta was released on Intakt Records: eight of the nine compositions were penned by David Virelles, all oscillating between composition and improvisation and opening doors to free interpretation and development.

Boubacar Traoré

In the early years of Mali&#x27;s independence, 20-year-old Boubacar Traoré picked up an electric guitar and shaped the sound of the young state. But with the military coup in 1968, his songs were banned from the radio and Traoré had to support his family as a farmer and small trader. In the late 1980s, however, his comeback was abruptly interrupted once again by the death of his wife. Traoré went to Paris and made a living as a construction worker. Finally, in 1990, he re-emerged as a musician and recorded six albums in short intervals. Very soon, Vincent Bucher&#x27;s harmonica became the sonic alter ego of Traoré&#x27;s voice and guitar playing. Since the turn of the millennium at the latest, he has been celebrated as one of the great fathers and ambassadors of modern Mandingo music, combining characteristic playing techniques and ideas from West Africa with the philosophy of the blues from the southern United States.

Moods Summer Special

Last year, Orchestra Baobab, one of Africa&#x27;s greatest bands, celebrated its 50th anniversary. Its story begins in the heart of Dakar&#x27;s medina in Senegal in the late 1960s and stretches around the world and into the 21st century. The group of singers and musicians from all over the continent play a mixture of Afro and Latin American styles, international pop and traditional griot music. After last year&#x27;s sold-out concert, the band returns to Moods this August. Before and after the concert, DJs Afreekaya &amp; Voilà Tim will be spinning some tunes.

What have almost forgotten Japanese folk songs got to do with a cumbia beat? The answer is Minyo Crusaders! The ten-piece collective reworks traditional Japanese folk songs called Min&#x27;yō with Latin music such as cumbia, Ethiopian jazz, Thai pop, Afro-funk and reggae. The result sounds a little crazy, but is absolutely brilliant in a great way. Minyo Crusaders are the most infectious and hottest global beat party since Buena Vista Social Club. Anyway, the punchy and inventive arrangements breathe new life into the old Japanese min&#x27;yō, which are also traditional workers&#x27; songs.

Singer and songwriter Luedji Luna is a prominent name in the Brazilian music scene. Winner of numerous awards and nominated for the Latin Grammy Best MPB Album in 2022, she soon achieved notoriety far beyond the country&#x27;s borders. Her music explores and celebrates the connections between her homeland and her African roots, and addresses the marginalizations of Afro-Brazilians and women in Brazil. This theme, coupled with her soulful voice, carries an infectious energy that is already palpable in her albums or online at the NPR Tiny Desk Concert, but especially unfolds live into an unforgettable musical experience. Judith Hill has already worked together with world stars such as Robbie Williams, Stevie Wonder and Elton John and became famous overnight when she sang «Heal The World» at the funeral of Michael Jackson – over 2 billion people watched on television. She appeared in the Oscar-winning documentary film «20 Feet From Stardom», generated a storm of enthusiasm in The Voice in the USA and the Rolling Stone Magazine praised her for her «outstanding powerhouse vocals». Her debut album «Back in Time» (2015) was produced by no-one less than Prince. Following a sensational show in Moods in 2019 to present her second album, «Golden Child», she now returns and brings along a new work: «Baby, I&#x27;m Hollywood!». We look forward to crisp, groovy Funk, Soul, R&#x27;n&#x27;B, to Jazzy ballads, to Judith&#x27;s impressive, distinctive voice and her great piano and guitar playing. Sly & Robbie meet Nils Petter Molvær & Eivind Aarset

Sly &amp; Robbie, these are the Reggae legends from Jamaica: drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist and keyboarder Robert Shakespeare, both members of Black Uhuru. Together with the Scandinavians Nils Petter Molvær, Eivind Aarset and Vladislav Delay, they create a unique sonic world which ranges from the colourful, melancholic sounds of Norwegian jazz to the energy-loaded grooves of Jamaica. Their «Nordub» project garnered world-wide attention following a joint tour in 2015/2016, now the long-awaited album of the results of their musical collaooperation has been released.

Sélène Saint-Aimé only appeared on the music scene a few years ago and has already developed a strong, independent voice. With a father from Martinique and a Franco-Ivorian mother, she describes herself as an “Afro-descendant”. Accordingly, her musical identity is clearly cosmopolitan, as she is influenced by both her roots and her travels. In this exclusive concert series, she will reinterpret songs from Louisiana, the Antilles and La Réunion and get to the bottom of her Creole identity. She will be accompanied by French violinist Thèo Ceccaldi, who has already won a Victoire du Jazz as “Revelation of the Year” and demonstrated his versatility with the French-Ethiopian project “Kutu”; and Guillaume Latil, one of the most sought-after jazz cellists.

Here, structures are broken up and boundaries are explored! London-based pianist and singer Ashley Henry mixes jazz with neo-soul, hip-hop and R&#x27;n&#x27;B in his compositions. The result is a groovy sound that offers room for breakbeats as well as Henry&#x27;s lyrical and playful piano solos. In a short space of time, Ashley Henry has developed from a newcomer to an important voice in the British jazz scene.

This year Bruno Spoerri is celebrating his 70th stage anniversary in Zurich - in 1954 he was awarded first prize at the Zurich Jazz Festival. The concert on November 12th will show two sides of his work; the first part with an acoustic jazz group, the second with technoid electronics. The versatility of singer Marianne Racine is hard to beat and her all-round musicality repeatedly leads to astonishing performances. Swing and solo flights of fancy are provided by a dream team of the younger generation: bassist Patrick Sommer &amp; drummer Andreas Wettstein with their famously - rapturously groovy interplay; Lucerne pianist Lukas Gernet with attentively sensitive sounds and singable melodies. In short: this quartet is bursting with joy of playing, humor and solid craftsmanship.

Siselabonga

Siselabonga are back with a new EP called &#x27;In Stone&#x27;. This time, South African singer-songwriter Nongoma takes the mic as the group moves through a kaleidoscopic mix of acoustic and electronic sounds. The rhythmic foundation is West African to the core, with selected elements of hip-hop, soul, Afrobeats and electro-pop thrown in for good measure. Lively, sensual and transcendent. This concert recording was made with the support of Migros Culture Percentage.

A fascinating voice reminiscent of Mélanie De Biasio and Beth Gibbons: Lea Maria Fries (et.nu, 22° Halo) is releasing her first solo album &#x27;Cleo&#x27; on 4 April 2025. On it, the Swiss singer confidently tells of an artist&#x27;s intimate search for her future, maturity and sensitivity. It is about encounters with the world, about being a woman in society and culture, and about becoming a queen like the one who has inspired her since childhood: Cleopatra. Strong, soulful, powerful, fresh and full of surprises, &#x27;Cleo&#x27; captivates the listener with every note.

The story of Ingoma Busuku began with an initial contact between Jonas Ruther and South African saxophonist Linda Sikakhane. Mediated by Nduduzo Makhathini, the two had originally planned to tour Switzerland in 2020. However, due to the pandemic, the tour had to be postponed several times before finally taking place in 2022. On the subsequent tour in South Africa, they also performed with singer Paras Dlamini. This tour will be his first appearance in Europe. The band&#x27;s name &#x27;Ingoma Busuku&#x27; also comes from the South African singing tradition and means &#x27;song of the night&#x27; in isiZulu, referring to the lyrics, which are deeply rooted in the Zulu tradition and at the same time reflect universal themes such as love, spirituality and connection to the ancestors. The band combines these with groovy rhythms, spiritual melodies and fine improvisation. During their tour of South Africa, the band recorded their first album, &#x27;Isambulo&#x27; (2022), produced by none other than Nduduzo Makhathini.

It is probably Europe&#x27;s best Salsa band: over the years the Orquesta Mercadonegro has become one of the most in-demand groups for Latin Amercian music. Founded by José Armando Miranda, Cesar Correa and Rodrigo Rodriguez, the trio has grown through the years into an eleven-piece band with roots in Latin America and their adopted home of Europe. With much passion, they spread the Salsa throughout the world and inspire every audience with their enthusiasm. No dancing leg will remain still and no shirt will reamin dry!

Die langjährige und sehr fruchtbare Partnerschaft zwischen Thomas Gansch und dem Zurich Jazz Orchestra wird auch dieses Jahr fortgesetzt. Neben Repertoire aus der Vergangenheit wird es auch neue Arrangements geben, die von Ed Partyka speziell für dieses Konzert geschrieben wurden und die Thomas Gansch als Komponisten und Multi-Instrumental-Solisten, aber auch als liebenswürdiges ‹Enfant terrible› präsentieren. Sicher ist, dass die wunderbaren Musiker*innen des ZJO für einige musikalische Überraschungen sorgen werden. Sicher ist auch: Band und Publikum werden einen unvergesslichen Abend erleben.

Die 1981 als Tochter einer Schriftstellerin und eines Regisseurs in der albanischen Hauptstadt Tirana geborene Elina Duni stand im Alter von nur funf Jahren erstmals auf einer Bühne. Seit ihren ersten musikalischen Schritten in Radio und Fernsehen hat sich viel getan: Heute ist Elina Duni ECM-Künstlerin und seit 2017 Preisträgerin des Schweizer Musikpreises. In diesem ZKB Jazzpreis Special trifft der Oud-Virtuose Rabih Abou-Khalil auf das Elina Duni Trio mit Marc Méan und Matthieu Michel. Eine einmalige Konstellation, die wohl so einige goldene Momente mit sich bringen wird. Das Konzert fand im Rahmen des ZKB Jazzpreis statt.

Joseph Bowie’s Big Band Funk - The Legendary Music of Defunkt

Joseph Bowie ist der Bruder des Big-Band-Musikers Byron Bowie und des Mitbegründers des Art Ensemble of Chicago, Lester Bowie. Joe selbst gründete 1978 die Punk-Funk-Jazz-Gruppe «Defunkt». Die Band veröffentlichte in den 1980er Jahren mehrere genreübergreifende Alben, und ihre Musik wurde als «einer der abenteuerlichsten Sounds des letzten Viertels des 20 Jahrhunderts» bezeichnet. In den letzten 20 Jahren hat Joe Bowie auch daran gearbeitet, diese Musik für Big Band zu adaptieren. Einer der Arrangeure, mit denen Joe seit 2011 zusammenarbeitet, ist Ed Partyka. Das ZJO freut sich auf einen energiegeladenen Abend mit tanzbaren Hits aus der langen Geschichte von «Defunkt».

Letztes Jahr feierte das Orchestra Baobab, eine der grössten Bands Afrikas, ihr 50-jähriges Bestehen. Welch ein Glück: Frau Schmidhauser ersteht eine Gitarre, findet jedoch nicht genug Zeit, um zu üben. Also übereignet sie das Instrument ihren Buben. Beat und Jürg machen nicht lange Federlesens und rocken los. Einige Zeit danach spielt Beat, inzwischen zum Schmidi gereift, mit 14 Jahren seinen ersten Gig. Heute, rund 1500 Konzerte und 46 Jährchen später, beglückt uns Schmidi zum letzten Mal live, denn – und zu unserem Bedauern – «es ist genug des Guten.» Er will sich fortan Dingen widmen, die in all den Jahren zu kurz gekommen sind und somit zwar nicht kürzertreten, aber breiter wirken. Unbeschreibliches hat Schmidi auf tausendundeiner Bühne erlebt, unterwegs mit «Stop the Shoppers», «HOT DC», «Los Hobos», «Chica Torpedo», «Traktorkestar», «Oso loco», mit Polo, Kuno, Endo, Büne, Sina, Lo &amp; Leduc – und immer wieder mit Jürg/Jiri, dem geliebten Brüetsch. Also dann: Bühne frei! Vor unseren Augen und Ohren schaltet Schmidi seinen Modus um: vom Künstlerleben zum Lebenskünstler.

Ein Jahr nachdem ihr fünftes Studioalbum Album «Longing Fever» den ‹Indie Suisse Album Of The Year Award› abgeräumt hat, ist Evelinn Trouble mit ihrer Band wieder auf Tour. Evelinn Trouble, bekannt für ihre kreative Rastlosigkeit, ihre virtuose Stimme und ihr eigenwilliges Songwriting hat ihrer Diskografie mit «Longing Fever» ein aufregendes Pop-Werk hinzugefügt – ein Bruch mit ihrer Psychedelic-Ära und trotzdem unverkennbar Trouble. Ein spannendes Album, das Höhen und Tiefen mit Inbrunst durchläuft und von beatlesken Liebesliedern zu euphorischen Melodien reicht, die von verzerrtem Hip-Hop getragen werden. Unerwartet gesellen sich neu Klänge von Streichinstrumenten zum sonst dunklen Klanguniversum der Zürcher Sängerin: Ein Streichtrio erweitert die Band zum «Evelinn Trouble Orchestra». Diese Konzertaufnahme entstand mit Unterstützung des Migros-Kulturprozent.

Yarima Blanco ist eine herausragende Tres-Cubano-Spielerin und eine der wenigen ausserhalb Kubas, die dieses einzigartige dreisaitige Instrument beherrschen. Mit ihrem eigenen Septett Son Latino verbindet sie verschiedene kubanische Stile mit lateinamerikanischen Einflüssen. Ihre mitreissenden Auftritte zeigen nicht nur ihre beeindruckende Technik auf der Tres, sondern auch ihre starke Stimme und ihr Charisma. Blanco perfektionierte ihr Können während eines mehrjährigen Studiums in Kuba und avancierte schnell zu einer gefragten Künstlerin, die auch mit dem Orchester ANACAONA in der internationalen Jazzszene für Aufsehen sorgte. Pancho Amat, internationaler Meister des Tres Cubanos, beschreibt Blancos Talent als aussergewöhnlich.

Mit unterschiedlichen kulturellen Einflüssen sowie einer lebendigen und mutigen Botschaft gelingt es Alina Amuri, magische musikalische Momente zu kreieren. Die in der DR Kongo Kinshasa geborene und in der Schweiz aufgewachsene Sängerin und Multi-Instrumentalistin hat in den letzten zehn Jahren ihren eigenen, hausgemachten Stil zwischen Afro, Neo Soul und Trip Hop entwickelt. Eine unvergessliche Stimme trifft auf kongolesische Perkussionsfreude und überraschende Flöteneinlagen und setzt Kräfte frei, bei denen der Optimismus zurückkehrt und das Tanzen unausweichlich wird. Ein Sound, der ein neues Gefühl der Zusammengehörigkeit schafft und das Versprechen, dass alles gut werden wird. Alina wurde schon für SRF 3 Best Talent ausgewählt, war schon für den wichtigsten Schweizer Musikpreis nominiert (Swiss Music Awards) und gewann mit ihrem letzten Album (Chasing Traces) den Swiss Live Talent Award. An diesem Konzert wird Alina Amuri ihr nächstes Studioalbum «Back To You» vorstellen. Es ist die bisher persönlichste Platte und erzählt von ihrer Reise zurück in ihre Geburtsstadt Kinshasa, zurück zu ihren familiären Wurzeln.

Aus ihrer Heimatstadt London heraus erobert die Sängerin Summer Pearl zur Zeit die Musikwelt im Sturm. Ihr Sound aus Jazz, Soul, Hip-Hop und Dub, der an diejenigen der grossen Eryka Badu erinnert, ist mächtig und zugleich berührend. Summer Pearl beschreibt ihn als «eine Meditation über meine Vergangenheit und eine Reflexion über unsere Gegenwart. Sie ist sowohl eine persönliche als auch eine politische Botschaft, die sich mit der schwarzen und weiblichen Befreiung sowie mit gewonnener und verlorener Liebe beschäftigt.»

OORT CLOUD concentrates on the expansion of the classical guitar trio sound and discover new, unconventional ways of interaction, composition and improvisation. The instrumentation loses its typical role models through the experimentation with preparations, electronic effects, playing techniques, together with sophisticated concepts for composotion and improvisation. The concert took place as part of the ZKB Jazz Prize.

With A Shake Stew, Austria&#x27;s Jazz band of the hour, much is extraordinary. Starting with the line-up: two drummers, two bass players, two saxophones, a trumpet. Quasi two trios plus one. Their comet-like ascendance is also without parallel: a sold-out debut album, a closely-watched collaboration with Shabaka Hutchings and performances at all the renowned Jazz festivals from Frankfurt to Montreal, from Istanbul to Mexico, speak for themselves. And then there&#x27;s that sound: driving rhythms, the horns sometimes blaring, sometimes virtuoso, sometimes melodious, borrowings from Afrobeats, Funk and Swing. And what&#x27;s better than an artist&#x27;s carte blanche evening? When all the musicians join forces. Every year, the Moods Musicians&#x27; Council selects Swiss musicians for a Carte Blanche. With a budget of 11,000 francs, they are free to organise their projects as they wish. There are (almost) no limits – be it concerts, sound installations or invitations to guest musicians. Dave Gisler, Franziska Bruecker, Jonas Ruther, Lucas Niggli, Roberto Domeniconi, Simon Grab, Tizia Zimmermann and Victoria Mozalevskaya have come up with something special to close this year&#x27;s Carte Blanche season at Moods. Solo, trio or all together: Moods Carte Blanche artists will showcase their talents in a variety of constellations on 6th June. Instead of concentrating on their own musical creations, as they did in their individual shows, they will create unique soundscapes together on this evening. Familiar patterns and genre boundaries are completely ignored. For example, while Simon Grab - the noisemaker par excellence - is completely electronic, Victoria Mozalevskaya originally comes from classical music and has now dedicated herself to contemporary jazz. Worlds will collide, we promise.

Greg Foat

He is a jazz pianist, composer, music producer - and a fixture on the London jazz scene: Greg Foat. In his pieces, Foat mixes jazz and ambient with electronic influences, creating unique soundscapes that invite immersion and exploration. Greg Foat is an innovator, always pushing the boundaries of his music. He recently collaborated with Venetian electro legend Gigi Masin on the critically acclaimed «Dolphin». His creativity knows no bounds. His live releases are proof of this. On «Live at Can Rudayla, Ibiza», for example, he fuses analogue synthesizers with ambient house and space jazz, while on «Live at Villa Maximus, Mykonos», he combines more cosmic jazz sounds with psychedelic elements. Foat will perform at Moods with the living groove machine Moses Boyd. The young jazz drummer, who turns 34 this year, has been described by the Guardian as the poster boy of London&#x27;s jazz revival.

Album Release «Neat Little Songs»

The long and very fruitful artistic relationship between Thomas Gansch and the ZJO has now been immortalized on a studio recording. This new CD will be presented on May 22nd at Moods. The program consists exclusively of compositions by Thomas Gansch, arranged by Ed Partyka. In addition to Thomas, the soloists of the ZJO can also be heard extensively. The music is profound and humorous at the same time and combines elements of jazz, classical and folk music with unexpected detours into the world of film music and 20th century pop culture. Almost exactly eleven years have passed since Thomas Gansch&#x27;s first performance with the ZJO. Today he is a good friend of the band and a favorite of the ZJO audience. The basic concept therefore remains the same for the joint CD: musical fireworks, fun, unconventional, crazy. Gansch and the ZJO have already performed everything imaginable together: Gil Evans, Don Ellis, their own music. And Thomas Gansch&#x27;s own music can now be heard on the new CD. Thomas Gansch and Ed Partyka have known each other for half an eternity. They met in 1999 at the Vienna Art Orchestra, and later Ed Partyka also played in Thomas Gansch&#x27;s band Gansch &amp; Roses. We have known each other for so long, but until now I have never had the opportunity to arrange his music for a jazz orchestra. I am very pleased that this has finally become possible and that we can present this special program with new arrangements with the ZJO on a joint disc, says Ed Partyka. Thomas Gansch not only has a keen awareness of the history of popular music and jazz, his roots also extend to Alpine folk music and the entire history of European classical music. All this profound knowledge is wrapped up in Viennese humor and presented with a great stage show and virtuoso trumpet playing. Listening to him, you get the impression that playing the trumpet is very easy.

Two musicians invent a new state of intoxication: no drugs, just drums, organ and electric guitar. Valeria Zangger, Dominik Blum and Dave Gisler leave times and styles behind when they create their music. Motifs, essences and quotations are taken from the pool of rock, pop and their own musical worlds and catapulted into new dimensions through improvisation. The result can be a cross between Pink Floyd and free jazz, or a noise prayer with Jimi Hendrix and Arnold Schoenberg. This trio was initiated by drummer Fredy Studer, who died unexpectedly in August 2022. Valeria Zangger is now on board, with a stylistic spectrum ranging from pop music to experimental and free improvisation. The interweaving of the most diverse musical hallucinations characterises the trio and is the chemical formula for their explosive fuel. What they have in common is the desire to create energetic sound processes inspired by the history of rock and jazz, which vibrate atmospherically in the free play of encounters and can grow into powerful vibrations.

&quot;Free improvisation at its best&quot; is what Swiss guitarist Flo Stoffner embodies in a unique way. His way of playing and deconstructing the guitar is unmistakable and unique and has been described as &quot;some kind of autopsy of the guitar sound&quot;. Solo or in collaboration with musicians such as John Butcher, Chris Corsano, Paul Lovens, Rudi Mahall, Albert Cirera and Hans Koch, but also with spoken word artist Anna Frey or with Anna &amp; Stoffner, he has become one of the outstanding figures of the European improvisation scene. Looking back as well as forward, he raises the banner of instant composing and proves again and again how alive, surprising and up-to-date the tradition of free improvisation is today.

Guitarist Dimitri Howald lets himself drift on his third solo album Southern Return - with a curiously yearning music that brings together the most diverse influences from jazz, new wave and tropicalismo to create a very personal mixture. Drive off - to where the forests give way to palm trees and the landscapes are vast and tropical. The times, places and influences overlap in these 12 very personal pieces of music, which Dimitri Howald recorded all by himself: We hear Brazilian tropicalismo influences, light and delicate jazz guitar figures, harmonies that radiate an untranslatable saudade, while the wave drum machine sets the pace at times, as on earlier albums. Dimitri Howald recorded Southern Return over the course of three years. He plays with the individual musical elements, tinkers, sings, warms - and breaks the idyll with analog synth sounds that emphasize the shadows or with pieces that lead right into the youthful grunge band cellar. Slight melancholy, longing, unfulfilled and as yet unrealized dreams: all this resonates delicately in this music. The concert will be played with reinforcements, i.e. Howald&#x27;s Amnis Band will be stretched out and enlarged. His quartet, consisting of Stefan Schischkanov, Toni Schiavano and Flo Reichle, will be joined by Michael Haudenschild, Sebastian Lötscher, Nao Rohr and Cégiu for a truly extended evening.

Omar Portuondo surely needs no introduction. The songstress that became a world star with the Buena Vista Social Club? The Grande Dame of Cuban music that still bubbles with so much wit and charm? Who also with 88 years is moved to tears when she sings a Filin or Bolero? Now, after over 70 years on the stage, she is on her final tour and sings a selection of her favourite songs, accompanied by her most loyal travelling companion. Her appearance in Moods will be the only one in such an intimate setting.

Dominique Fils-Aimé

Dominique Fils-Aimé is back with a new album and after several attempts finally plays the Moods stage for the first time. Following her successful trilogy of albums that traced the history of African-American culture and history and even earned her a JUNO for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year in 2020, comes her latest record, &quot;Our Roots Run Deep,&quot; which will be released in September 2023 on Ensoul Records. Inspired by soul icons such as Billie Holiday, Etta James and Nina Simone, the Canadian with Haitian roots tells of the wellspring of her soul and holds the audience with her voice in a soothing sonic embrace.
