Yunus's Concert Recommendations for November

I don't want to toot my own horn, but the November lineup is packed with real gems. Here, I'll tell you which shows I'm especially looking forward to.

DiensDay, November 3 – Co Streiff – Russ Johnson Quartet

I’m especially looking forward to this evening. For one thing, because—shame on me—I’ve never had the chance to see Switzerland’s jazz icon perform live. But also because Co is practically part of Moods. She was there when Moods was founded in Selnau. That makes me all the more excited that I can now hear her on our stage at the Schiffbau, more than three decades after Moods was founded.

Thursday, November 5 – Momoko Gill

What do Karen Carpenter, Anderson Paak, Dave Grohl, and Momoko Gill have in common? They’re all singing drummers. But more importantly, they excel in both disciplines. Momoko’s music, which emerged from London’s contemporary scene, isn’t just melodious—it’s also danceable. The whole experience is rounded out by her multi-layered, harmonious vocal style. A truly special evening—we promise!

Saturday, November 7 – NNAVY

When it became clear that NNAVY would be performing here, I couldn’t help but exclaim, “Finally!” After four years and several attempts to book her, it finally worked out. Back then, the artist from western Switzerland was still an insider’s tip; now she’s one of the most influential voices in our country and among her generation. At Moods, she’ll be performing songs from her latest album, “Slowly Burning”—and I’m practically bursting with anticipation!

Tuesday, November 10 – Martial In-Albon featuring Seraina Tall

Alphorn, dance, sound, and manipulation: What sounds a bit like a string of buzzwords is, in reality, a musical experience. In-Albon brings his archaic alphorn sounds into the present and to Moods. The project came about when he recorded the “Miniatures” for his album “Alphorn Tunes” (2025) in the Hünenberg water reservoir in the Chnodenwald, with over 45 seconds of reverberation. Now he’s bringing these extraordinary sounds to the stage. Contemporary music, but with a twist.

Sunday, November 15 – Gregory Hutchinson Quintet

Moods is a wonderful place, which is why so many artists love to return to our stage. This evening, we’ll be seeing several Moods regulars. First and foremost, of course, is Gregory Hutchinson. The gifted drummer has performed at Schiffbau several times and was also a member of the Jazz Prize jury in 2025. Together with Milena Casado, Seamus Blake, Aaron Parks, and Jason Weaver, he’ll pay tribute to the work of Miles Davis. Rather than simply reveling in the past during this anniversary year, Hutchinson and his all-star ensemble will revive the spirit of innovation and dialogue that characterized Miles’s best bands.

Monday, November 16 – True Loves

There’s not much more to say here. The name says it all—the sound is something to fall in love with. Seattle soul at its finest, getting everyone moving and just spreading good vibes. If you like Jimmy James or Delvon Lamarr, you’ll love the True Loves.

Monday, November 23 – Angel Bat Dawid

It’s not the lineup that’s unprecedented, but the name of the festival, which is returning to Moods again this year. As part of the festival, Chicago-based composer, clarinetist, pianist, singer, DJ, and educator Angel Bat Dawid will be performing. Dawid blends spiritual jazz, free improvisation, and African American musical traditions to create her own distinctive sound. Her concerts are intense, spiritual experiences that create spaces for community, remembrance, and transcendence. It’s not uncommon for a tear or two—of joy—to be shed.
