Bassekou Kouyaté is a "rough African diamond," as Ali Farka Touré, the father of West African blues, once said. Not without reason: Bassekou Kouyaté is considered one of the world's best players of the ngoni, a West African lute, and is one of the most interesting musicians on the current African music scene. His grooving band Ngoni Ba consists of two differently tuned Ngonis, various percussion instruments and the fantastic singer Amy Sacko. Together they create a sound from traditional griot music from Mali, blues and rock that hypnotizes, touches the heart and makes you dance. Or in the words of KEXP radio host Eric Schmidt: "If you're looking for something to enrich your soul, this is the show to do it!"
