Alune Wade is a musical world wanderer, combining the Middle East with West African Afrobeat, Arab-Andalusian rhythms and American jazz. On his fifth solo album &quot;Sultan&quot; (2022), the Senegalese bassist mixes blues from Mali with Raï, Gnawa, Sufi and soul elements, but also music from Ethiopia, rap and jazz are woven into it. His eclectic, highly creative compositions delight audiences worldwide. So it&#x27;s no wonder that he has toured with music greats like Gregory Porter and Marcus Miller. In his own compositions he brings together professionals from all over the world - especially from his home continent Africa.

Described by Downbeat Magazine as &quot;A Volcano on the Ocean Floor&quot;, Oded Tzur&#x27;s music is a microcosm in which blues, Indian ragas, synagogue prayers and classical music form a distinctive universal language. The New York City-based, Israeli-born saxophonist, composer and bandleader explores fundamental connections between ancient and modern musical traditions and excels at using and developing microtonality on the saxophone. London&#x27;s experimental electronic artist Romare is known from dancing through club nights at Berghain as well as being Bonobo&#x27;s sidekick on their US tour. His stage name is based on the African-American cut-up artist Romare Bearden, and his music and work practice are correspondingly collage-like. On his new album &quot;Fantasy&quot; he uses elements from the fantasy cinema of the 70s and mixes them with rhythmic, eccentric electronica. In this way, he lends club music something playful without losing sight of the actual purpose of getting people to dance.

On multiple levels, Jerusalem In My Heart weaves an immersive, multimedia work supported by uncompromising political urgency. The audiovisual project by Radwan Ghazi Moumneh and Erin Weisgerber combines ancient video technology with traditional Arabic vocals, buzuq, and a modern sonority. The current album &quot;Qalaq_&quot; was released via Constellation Records in October 2021 and features collaborations with a variety of artist:s including Moor Mother, Tim Hecker, Lucrecia Dalt, Greg Fox, and VÍZ. &quot;Qalaq&quot; is an Arabic word and is translated by Moumneh as &quot;deep concern&quot; - a deep concern on various universal levels, but specifically related to his country of origin, Lebanon, its collapsing domestic politics, economy, infrastructure, and geopolitics.

&quot;The Father of Ethio-Jazz&quot; on the Moods stage! Mulatu Astatke is one of Africa&#x27;s most influential musicians. As a teenager he left his homeland to study music in London, New York and Boston as one of the first African students. He was particularly fond of jazz and Latin American rhythms. Back in Addis Ababa, he combined these influences with traditional Ethiopian music and Afro-funk, and in short invented a new musical style: Ethio-Jazz. With the military coup of 1974, popular music was declared undesirable in Ethiopia and he disappeared from the scene. But at the latest since its prominent representation in the soundtrack to Jim Jarmusch&#x27;s film &quot;Broken Flowers&quot;, Ethio-Jazz is back in the consciousness of many music enthusiasts.

«Brunteti – The Return»

Zurich-based pianist Tamriko Kordzaia had already made a name for herself in her native country Georgia as an interpreter of Haydn and Mozart. After moving to Switzerland at the end of the 1990s, she continued this occupation, but increasingly turned her attention to new and experimental music. As a result, she can now be found on a wide variety of stages and festivals throughout Europe: at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, at Wien Modern, the Jazz Festival Willisau, at Ambient Cologne and Musik Protokoll Graz, at Sonic Matter, at Le Singe in Biel or at Café OTO in London... and it is precisely in this spirit that she also designs her Carte Blanche. The idea behind the program of her Carte Blanche is to open up spaces by crossing the most diverse music scenes and juxtaposing experimental, new, freely improvised, old, folk and electronic music or genres oriented in completely different directions - creating collisions, abrupt, unsubtle transitions, in order to ultimately hear how close all this exists next to each other and how much common ground there is despite all the differences. The first part of the evening will focus on the Dutch music scene. The musical aesthetics there are different from those in German-speaking countries. Holland&#x27;s musical gesture is more inspired by America, is playful, open to cleverness. The Dutch music scene is also home to many young musicians who find a good ground there to try out all kinds of craziness. With Kluster5, a young but already very experienced ensemble comes to Zurich this evening. Together with Alexandre Kordzaia, Kluster5 will present a kind of music theater piece entitled &quot;1999 (do you wannago?)&quot;. The piece is based on the audio recordings of a 5-year-old boy who emigrates from Georgia to Switzerland. He looks back to the dark 1990s in Georgia and looks through the eyes and thoughts of a five-year-old child at civil war, political chaos, friendship, radio memories, horror movies, farewell and loss. The evening sets the stage for theatrical experiments and concert forms that leave the purely musical framework to create something of their own together with other art forms. Thus, the Jazz Club is transformed into a theatrical stage!

KIOSK: RuLeTa

The trio &quot;Kiosk Ru_Le_Ta&quot; also tells stories. Tamriko Kordzaia has already collaborated with soprano Lena Kiepenheuer in other concert programs. Now the three of them, together with Georgian composer and singer Russudan Meipariani, are embarking on a whole new adventure. Meiparani studied with Wolfgang Rihm, but has made something entirely her own out of this influence. When she is on stage, she seems like an old Nordic fairy tale character. She sings with her peculiar, wondrous voice joyfully and rapturously, sometimes perhaps bordering on kitsch, but always peculiar and unique. The trio presents a musical kiosk in the style of post-Soviet kiosks (so-called butkas), where you could find anything - from the finest fruits and vegetables, Chinese fake luxury items, to rare antiques. Thus, the ensemble&#x27;s program also includes music from Janacek, Kagel Luigi Nono, John Cage to the present time - compositions and original compositions by Russudan Meipariani and, of course, Beethoven! The selection of pieces resembles a wild potpourri, embodying the longing for the direct, the simple and the playful... matching the small sceneries that stage designer Sophie Krayer creates with simple means to the music.

Rafael Schilt has been working with Raphael Walser and Marcio de Sousa for many years, which makes them an excellent team.

Renowned for his exquisite and soulful black music selection, he found hip-hop through b-boying: Battle of the Year, Red Bull BC one, Wold B-Boy Classics, Royal Arena, and 2Face Battle. Inspired by his favorite producer J Dilla, who sampled Moğollar on his debut album in 2001, Özgür took his skills to Anatolian psychedelic funk and created his mixtape series, Moruk Funk, a decade ago. Locked at home in the pandemic, he found the time to digitalize his record collection, a treasury chest filled with Anatolian psychedelic rock gems. Some might remember his legendary set at Rundfunk FM this summer. He&#x27;s back with Moruk Funk at the Psychedelic Music Explosion!

From the first notes of the guitar it is immediately clear - this is Joe Louis Walker. With his energetic, virtuoso guitar playing and whiskey-soaked voice, the guitarist is one of the greatest blues musicians of his generation. He is known worldwide as a pioneer of the genre, fusing gospel, jazz, soul, funk and rock influences into his own brand of blues. When the guitar virtuoso, singer and songwriter was finally inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall Of Fame in 2013 and his name appeared in a row with greats like B.B. King, Hound Dog Taylor and Muddy Waters, his reputation as a &quot;living blues legend&quot; (NPR Music) was finally cemented.

The Marie Krüttli Trio impresses, is exciting, colourful and daring. With a mature tone, clear aesthetics and beguiling virtuosity, the Swiss woman manoeuvres herself and her band colleagues through intricate rhythms and interwoven chains of chords. The melodies shimmer groovily, the players appear charming and with a lot of enigmatic wit, always deeply rooted in the European piano tradition and influenced by the sound ideals of Stravinsky and Debussy.

The long-standing and very fruitful partnership between Thomas Gansch and the Zurich Jazz Orchestra will continue this year. In addition to repertoire from the past, there will also be new arrangements written by Ed Partyka especially for this concert, presenting Thomas Gansch as a composer and multi-instrumental soloist, but also as an amiable &#x27;enfant terrible&#x27;. As the daughter of the Japanese pianist Michiko and the R&amp;B bassist and producer Robert &quot;Peewee&quot; Hill, the singer and multi-instrumentalist Judith Hill grew up in a musical household. When she sang his ballad &quot;Heal the World&quot; at Michael Jackson&#x27;s funeral service, she suddenly became known to an international audience. Her debut album (2015) was then produced by none other than Prince and soul and pop giant Stevie Wonder also brought her to his side for recordings. With her latest record, Baby, I&#x27;m Hollywood, she ruminates on pleasure, pain, celebration and consequences, all of which are incorporated into her collection of finely crafted stories in song. A wonderful autobiographical journey through the music she loves most: from funk, soul, R&#x27;n&#x27;B to quiet jazz ballads.

After the fifth album, everything turned out differently than planned: The album tour was cancelled in March 2020 after only 3 concerts. But one could confidently say: The songs and their stories behind them are pure Eliane. From the first to the last song. Beautiful ballads and big feelings that get under your skin - honest and authentic. 12 new songs, 12 new stories from life. You can feel the maturity of an adult woman who stands in the middle of life and deals with it intensively. The album was produced in London by Julian Simmons and recorded by first-class studio musicians. The album received its final polish in the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Eliane took a lot of time for the album - and it paid off: &quot;Eliane&quot; is a very personal, multi-layered and emotional album - back to the artist&#x27;s roots. She used the forced break to write down many new stories and she is currently working intensively on another album. Under the name &quot;Reset&quot;, which means &quot;to reset&quot; and is representative of a new beginning, she will release her sixth work at the end of September. A mixture of old and new settings, in order to bring the songs of the fifth album to the public in a worthy manner. From mid-October, the album tour with her 6-piece band will follow, and one can be curious from the first to the last note. In the meantime, the artist can rely on 10 years of stage experience. After several album, club and Christmas concert tours, the band is a well-rehearsed team. Perhaps also more like a family. They can hardly wait to return to the live stage.

The funding &quot;Perspectives Pop&quot; of the state of Baden-Württemberg makes it possible: During one year, six musicians meet three times for one week in the Faust Studio and (v)elaborate the multidiverse musical origins and backgrounds into a homogeneous set and sound. Initiated by Hans Joachim Irmler (FAUST) and Monika Nuber (Jon Shit), the Spielwiesen Orkestra consists of vocal artist Dorle Ferber, violist Evi Kegelmaier (Hochzeitskapelle) and tinkerer Thilo Kuhn with his light-controlled modular synthesizer. Zurich multi-instrumentalist and producer Domi Chansorn is the sixth member and invites the Spielwiesen Orkestra to his Carte Blanche at Moods. With a collective willingness to explore new musical paths in intensive collaboration, the interplay drifts fluidly between retrofuturistic spheres, avant-garde folklore and endless Krautrock escapades, partly improvised, partly composed.

Mastermind, drummer and composer Oliver Steidle has been touring internationally for years and is one of the leading minds of Berlin&#x27;s ever-evolving young avant-garde. His new future-jazz band The Killing Popes is his testing ground for developing new rhythmic ideas and ways of weaving together those musical styles that influenced him in his youth - hip-hop, punk, grindcore. This as a stylistic foundation, the compositions offer everything that makes up contemporary jazz: rhythmic complexity, catchy melodies and plenty of room for improvisation.

Gard Nilssen comes from a family in which everyone played the drums. No wonder his artistic path was preordained. He founded his trio Gard Nilssen Acoustic Unity in 2014 and has since been awarded numerous prizes and even nominated for a Grammy for their interpretations of stirring anthems and poignant ballads. The group&#x27;s dynamic interplay, danceable pulse and striking themes make Acoustic Unity one of the most interesting bands on the Norwegian scene today.

Carla Boregas

Carla Boregas is a berlin-based Brazilian musician and sound artist. Her practice is focused on the creation of aural environments through the manipulation of synthesizers, field recordings and acoustic sounds with emphasis on texture, repetition and sensoriality. She works across the spectrum of composition, production, performance and sound installation. She also collaborates with artists from dance, film and theater. In 2021, Carla co-founded the punk ethos genre-bending band RAKTA (playing bass and electronics), and since then she has been a very active figure in the Brazilian scene and abroad with several solo projects and collaborations. She is also part of Fronte Violeta, a transdisciplinary duo that investigates sound in a multi-sensory way, always guided by a continuous interest in restoring and awakening sensitivity through a dialogue with the natural world. In 2019, she joined the multi-instrumentalist M.Takara. Together they released the two well praised albums “Linha D&#x27;Água” (Bokeh Versions) and &quot;Grande Massa D´Água&quot; (Hive Mind Records), the result of the amalgam of Boregas’ ethereal electronic sonorities with Takara’s jazzy improvised percussion. Recently Carla released her debut solo album called &quot;Pena ao Mar&quot; on the Swedish imprintiDEAL Recordings.

As a musician, sound artist, performer and composer, Lucrecia Dalt has traversed a variety of musical constellations. One senses the memory of her growing up in Colombia and the influences of tropical music. But her true destiny lies withing experimental sounds. Dalt&#x27;s compositions shimmer through the glowing tones of her voice, conjuring magnetic atmospheres in her distinctive and ever-expanding sonic universe.

DJ-Set by Ink!

Ink! is known for sets that open windows to musical dawn, or doom. Having explored the vast lands of the Hardcore Continuum since the late 90ies, he continues to be interested in the connections between signal and noise, the in-betweens and the nuances. Feeding from Techno, Rave, Bass and Dub, and often using more than just two turntables and a mixer, Ink! stirs up sets that are invitations to loose yourself in a sea of sound. He is co-founder of the label -OUS (since 2015), part of the Rhizom Festival collective and is linked with the people behind Zurich’s mini-club Umbo.

The Tiger Lillies

The infamous Tiger Lillies are back! And for all those who have always missed them until now, here&#x27;s an attempt to describe them: weird, comedic-tragic style, costumes and masks, falsetto singing, an instrumentation of accordion, drums, singing saw and piano, a mixture of vaudeville, cabaret, punk and gypsy music. The lyrics are not for value conservatives: in macabre exaggeration they deal with topics like drug addiction, blasphemy, prostitution, abortion, perverted sexual fantasies – wherever there is something disreputable, they provocatively add to it. You have to have experienced it.

A battered parlour piano, next to it a simply equipped drum set: that&#x27;s all Hely need. The young Zurich duo of pianist Lucca Fries and drummer Jonas Ruther start their pieces from nowhere and let them end in somewhere. The audience closes its eyes, opens its ears wide and floats away into inner spaces or worlds of thought. With driving rhythms and intoxicating sounds, the two musicians play themselves and their audience into ecstasy. What this acoustic duo creates in terms of sound intensity is extraordinary - and brings joy: anticipation for their new album &quot;Plode&quot;, which will be released in April 2023 on Nik Bärtsch&#x27;s boutique label Ronin Rhythm Records.

Sylvie Courvoisier Trio

When Sylvie Courvoisier went to New York almost 30 years ago, she only wanted to stay for three months. Today, the Swiss-born pianist and composer, born in 1968, is still there and has established herself as a formative figure of the downtown scene. She has worked with Mary Halvorson and John Zorn, plays in a wide variety of formations from duos to quintets, and writes music for radio, ballet and theater. Last year she was awarded the German Jazz Prize in the category Piano/Keyboards International. Her work in this piano trio with drummer Kenny Wollesen and bassman Drew Gress is characterized by abrupt breaks, dissonances, and changes in form. The sound spectrum ranges from a filigree aesthetic to elastic swing to virtuosic power play, at times reminiscent of the old master of piano ecstasy, Cecil Taylor. Courvoisier is a master of &quot;instant preparation&quot; when she reaches inside the piano and lets notes clang metallically.

With &quot;Small Town&quot; Bill Frisell and bassist Thomas Morgan present a collection of special duets that not only reveals their virtuoso interplay but also the poetry in their music. Music that has a bit of big city, a bit of small town, a bit of province in its sound. Music that flows quietly and simply. Guitar and bass in reductionist and minimalist interplay.

50 Years! Jubilee Tour 2023

The concert has been rescheduled to 28.01.2024 due to illness. There was a time when half the world danced to &quot;Baby Love,&quot; the hit by the legendary crossover band Mother&#x27;s Finest. In 1976 they released their first album; titles like &quot;Mickey&#x27;s Monkey&quot; or &quot;Dis Go Dis Way, Dis Go Dat Way&quot; have long since become classics and still fill all dance floors today. Their explosive mixture of jazz, R&amp;B, rock and funk sounds intoxicating, provocative and passionate. The key to this band&#x27;s success? Their live shows! And: They can rarely be experienced in an intimate setting like Moods.

Pablo Held Trio

The Pablo Held Trio is much more than a team of great instrumentalists. Together with bassist Robert Landfermann and drummer Jonas Burgwinkel, the Cologne-based pianist forms a veritable dream team that even John Scofield considers &quot;one of the great groups in music today. They love fast-changing harmonic sequences and time signatures, do not allow themselves to be tied down by prefabricated program sequences, and create musical experiences to surrender to and be carried away by.

Steve Coleman and Five Elements

Modern, unconventional jazz that knows no borders, is not afraid of tradition and does not shy away from the craziest rhythms, and yet thrives on a distinctive melodicism: for over 20 years, jazz innovator Steve Coleman has been redefining the history of improvisation with his Five Elements. The ensemble, originally formed from a street music formation, counts some big names like Ambrose Akinmusire, Jason Moran and Vijay Iyer among its former members. With this ever-evolving line-up, the Five Elements&#x27; sound also changed: instead of a lush band sound, the saxophonist and bandleader from Chicago now goes for a stripped-down version that does without any harmony instrument at all. But there is one thing their music does not lack: A pinch of funk and soul and a lot of love for experimentation.

The jazz scene was shaken up in 2012 by an extraordinary trio at the Summer Jazz Festival in Copenhagen: Benjamin Koppel, Scott Colley and Brian Blade shared the stage for the first time. The magic was palpable as the three picked up their instruments and began to play. After two sold-out shows, they decided to tour together and formed the Koppel / Colley / Blade Collective. Blade&#x27;s creative drumming, Colley&#x27;s incredible improvisational skills on bass and Koppel&#x27;s lyrical saxophone playing create a unique soundscape that ranges from quiet jazz to rock subgenres.

Billy Cobham

Spectrum Band

With &quot;Spectrum&quot; and &quot;Crosswinds&quot;, drum master Billy Cobham created two epochal recordings of the fusion era at the beginning of the seventies. From Miles Davis to George Benson, Cobham worked with almost all the luminaries of modern jazz and was a co-founder of the legendary jazz fusion Mahavishnu Orchestra. With his newly formed band, Cobham, who has lived in Switzerland for many years, brings his pieces up to date and shows that his music has lost none of its fascination to this day. There are will not be any seating at this concert.

Andreas Schaerer & Hildegard Lernt Fliegen

Fasten your seatbelts, because with their energetic and unconventional stage presence, this sextet will once again prove that music can be both serious and fun - and that the two can inspire each other. The audience will be taken on an interactive and adventurous journey, including the opportunity to conduct the band. And as the adventure gathers pace, the audience may not realise they are flying through the air with Hildegard until she takes off for the first loop. Children of all ages are welcome at this concert. Children up to the age of 12 can attend the concert free of charge, but please reserve a free ticket in the system. The charismatic Swiss Andreas Schaerer is one of the most multi-faceted and original jazz singers and composers of our time. The music scene worldwide bows before so much virtuosity and changeability and even if he would never call himself a vocal acrobat, exactly this comparison does him justice due to his outstanding technical finesse and intelligent mastery of his voice. With his band “Hildegard Lernt Fliegen”, Andreas Schaerer released a new studio album &quot;The Waves Are Rising, Dear!&quot; on the ACT Music label in the spring of 2020 after six years, which they will present live as part of an extensive tour. Known for its high-energy, unconventional stage performances, this sextet will once again prove that seriousness and fun in music need not be mutually exclusive, but quite the opposite, mutually inspiring.

Zurich-based pianist Tamriko Kordzaia had already made a name for herself in her native country Georgia as an interpreter of Haydn and Mozart. After moving to Switzerland at the end of the 1990s, she continued this occupation, but increasingly turned her attention to new and experimental music. As a result, she can now be found on a wide variety of stages and festivals throughout Europe: at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, at Wien Modern, the Jazz Festival Willisau, at Ambient Cologne and Musik Protokoll Graz, at Sonic Matter, at Le Singe in Biel or at Café OTO in London... and it is precisely in this spirit that she also designs her Carte Blanche. The idea behind the program of her Carte Blanche is to open up spaces by crossing the most diverse music scenes and juxtaposing experimental, new, freely improvised, old, folk and electronic music or genres oriented in completely different directions - creating collisions, abrupt, unsubtle transitions, in order to ultimately hear how close all this exists next to each other and how much common ground there is despite all the differences. On the third and last evening of her Carte Blanche at Moods, Tamriko Kordzaia looks back on long-standing friendships that have had a great influence on her own work: The trio project &quot;u /r&quot; with Tomas Korber (electronics) and Tobias Gerber (saxophone) shows another facet of Tamriko Kordzaia&#x27;s work, which has become increasingly important to her in recent times. &quot;u /r&quot; moves on the threshold between improvisation and composition and gives rise to soundscapes and drone-like structures that are, however, always angular, edgy and brittle.

And finally, as a grand finale, the Gori Women&#x27;s Chamber Choir from Georgia will perform, which already caused a sensation with its powerful singing at last year&#x27;s edition of the &quot;Close Encounters&quot; festival. For this finale, the Austrian composer Klaus Lang will present a new composition and join in himself on the harmonium - together with the Konus Saxophone Quartet, which is celebrating its anniversary with this project, and with Tamriko Kordzaia on the piano. &quot;The starting point for the new composition are polyphonic Georgian compositions for a women&#x27;s choir. These pieces, characterized by their specific polyphonic sound, are preserved in their original form and are both contrasted and combined with newly composed sound structures. Two polyphonic meshes thus form a new continuum of sound, which both connects the two different compositional worlds and unites the singing voices with instrumental sounds, thereby dissolving the superficial contrasts into a new unity. With stylistic influences from samba, soul and funk, Emicida speaks and raps tirelessly about Afro-Brazilian identity and the social climate in his home country. Inspired by Brazilian poetry, the idea of emotional and spiritual maturity and the idea of unity through love, Emicida creates a distinctive style of his own, which he calls &quot;Neo-Samba&quot;. DJ Âmy B. from Lyon will bring the evening to a close.

«Vocal Artistry Series»

Efrat Alony and Ed Partyka have been working together for almost 20 years and have recorded with the Sunday Night Orchestra and the Ed Partyka Jazz Orchestra. They have also performed together with the UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra and the HR Big Band. The singer, bandleader and composer, who now lives in Germany, began her music studies in Haifa and completed them in Boston. This night&#x27;s programme is just as international. It consists of modern Jewish folk songs and original compositions by Efrat Alony, arranged by Ed Partyka for jazz orchestra and the warm, sometimes gentle-melancholic, sometimes determined voice of Efrat Alony.

Bugge Wesseltoft & Henrik Schwarz

The second collaboration between jazz pianist Bugge Wesseltoft and techno producer Henrik Schwarz is a unique synthesis of pop, electronica and chamber music. Duo II&quot; features guests from the Berlin music scene and mixes live and sampled performances, with Wesseltoft often heard on synthesizer. The album showcases the duo&#x27;s versatility with catchy synth motifs and polyphonic avant-garde melodies. The eight songs are a mix of genres, including neoclassical, pop and dubby electronica, and the album was recorded with natural acoustics in a Berlin church. &quot;Duo II&quot; is the innovative duo&#x27;s most complex and catchy album to date.

Bassekou Kouyaté & Ngoni Ba

Bassekou Kouyaté is a &quot;rough African diamond,&quot; as Ali Farka Touré, the father of West African blues, once said. Not without reason: Bassekou Kouyaté is considered one of the world&#x27;s best players of the ngoni, a West African lute, and is one of the most interesting musicians on the current African music scene. His grooving band Ngoni Ba consists of two differently tuned Ngonis, various percussion instruments and the fantastic singer Amy Sacko. Together they create a sound from traditional griot music from Mali, blues and rock that hypnotizes, touches the heart and makes you dance. Or in the words of KEXP radio host Eric Schmidt: &quot;If you&#x27;re looking for something to enrich your soul, this is the show to do it!&quot;

Susana Baca

With Susana Baca, an icon of the Afro-Peruvian music tradition comes to Moods. Her international breakthrough came in 1997 with her first album on David Byrne&#x27;s (Talking Heads) &quot;Luaka Bop&quot; label. The Peruvian singer is an institution in her homeland. In 2011, she was even briefly Minister of Culture of the Peruvian government. At the center of her music is an exploration of the heritage of her traditions, which she has explored together with her husband on ethnomusicological journeys through Peru. Her new album, &quot;Palabras Urgentes,&quot; was produced by American composer Michael League (Snarky Puppy). It marks a new high point in the 50-year career of the singer and ethnomusicologist.

Christian Wallumrød Ensemble

He is considered one of the most innovative and important improvisers and composers on the Norwegian music scene: Christian Wallumrød. He has released five albums with his ensemble on ECM Records, including Outstairs, which won a Norwegian Grammy. The ensemble&#x27;s music combines jazz, chamber music and avant-garde, enriched by the use of electronic effects and unusual instruments such as the Hardanger fiddle and church organ.

Be transported to a magical otherworld of instinct and intuition with this bold new set of synth-driven folk-trance standards from electronic guru James Holden. Meridian Brothers

Meridian Brothers, an experimental neo-tropicalista band, will take you on a journey through Colombian music history, accompanied by hypnotic rhythms and surreal sounds. Inspired by traditional Colombian musical styles such as vallenato, cumbia and salsa, the band creates an idiosyncratic, futuristic sound that breaks down the boundaries between electronic and acoustic music. The experimental nature of the band&#x27;s music, including the use of unusual instruments such as a cowbell and a toy xylophone, makes their concerts unique.

James Brandon Lewis

&quot;A saxophonist who embodies and transcends tradition,&quot; wrote the New York Times about James Brandon Lewis. In just over a decade, he has become one of the most celebrated young jazz artists. An artist who has carved out a niche for himself with his unique blend of gospel, blues and R&amp;B with the stirring sax explorations of John Coltrane, Albert Ayler and Sonny Rollins. His performance coincides with the release of his new ANTI Records recording, &#x27;Eye and I&#x27;, which features him in a trio with electric bassist Josh Werner and drummer Chad Taylor.

Liraz Charhi, daughter of Iranian Jews, was born in Israel. For a long time she had no connection to Iran, but a stay in &quot;Tehrangeles&quot; (Los Angeles, USA) should change that forever. There she meets probably the most vibrant Persian community outside of Iran (over 1 million people of Iranian descent live in the greater Los Angeles area). She is addressed in Farsi on the street, memories of her parents&#x27; language are awakened, and she quickly feels she belongs. Although she is an actress in Los Angeles, Liraz&#x27;s journey takes her to the Persian music of the 70s before the Islamic revolution. Inspired by Googoosh and searching for her roots, she records her Persian album &quot;Naz&quot; in 2018. Psychedelic electro beats mixed with Persian retro sounds, sad lyrics with funky rhythms. For her albums &quot;Zan&quot; (woman) and &quot;Roya&quot; (fantasy) she works together with Iranian musicians - undercover, only at a distance or undercover in Istanbul, because in Iran any contact with Israelis is forbidden by law. Rehearsals take place via Skype, and the tracks sent from Iran are mixed in Tel Aviv.

Yarima Blanco Y Son Latino

Yarima Blanco is an outstanding Tres Cubano player and one of the few outside of Cuba to master this unique three-stringed instrument. With her own septet, Son Latino, she combines various Cuban styles with Latin American influences. Her electrifying performances showcase not only her impressive technique on the tres, but also her powerful voice and charisma. Blanco perfected her skills during several years of study in Cuba and quickly became a sought-after artist, also making waves on the international jazz scene with the orchestra ANACAONA. Pancho Amat, international master of the tres cubanos, describes Blanco&#x27;s talent as exceptional.

Omer Klein Trio

Omer Klein is one of the great jazz musicians that Israel continues to produce. His compositions leave nothing to be desired in terms of virtuosity and versatility; lyrical keyboard melodies merge seamlessly into complex rhythmic passages. His interplay with Haggai Cohen-Milo on bass and Amir Bresler on drums creates a dynamic groove that makes it clear that the three are close friends and a well-rehearsed trio. On the recently released anniversary album &#x27;Life&amp;Fire&#x27;, Omer Klein combines his roots in jazz and classical music with modern sounds and rhythms, building a bridge between the past and the future.

Arooj Aftab, Vijay Iyer and Shazad Ismaily delight audiences with their unusual blend of jazz, Indian and Pakistani music and experimental sounds. Aftab&#x27;s distinctive voice takes centre stage, while Iyer&#x27;s piano and Ismaily&#x27;s instrumentation create a multi-layered soundscape. The trio has released several albums and brings an energetic performance to the stage. On their latest album, Love in Exile, Aftab sings about her own exile, the search for freedom and identity, and how she finds it through love and music. More about the musicians Arooj Aftab is a composer, songwriter and singer of semi-classical, minimalist Hindustani music who grew up in Pakistan. She was recently awarded the Grammy for Best Global Sounds Musical Performance, the first Pakistani artist to receive this honour. Renowned jazz pianist Vijay Iyer&#x27;s awards include a MacArthur Fellowship, a Doris Duke Performing Artist Award, a US Artist Fellowship, a Grammy nomination and the Alpert Award in the Arts. Shahzad Ismaily is a multi-instrumentalist and composer who has collaborated with artists including Yoko Ono, Laurie Anderson, Beth Orton, Bonnie Prince Billy, Damien Rice, Jolie Holland and Sam Amidon.

A pioneer of electronic jazz, Nils Petter Molvær is a kind of human groove and sound machine live, starting slowly with a Nordic heaviness and then building all the more powerfully.
