Septeto Nabori is a Cuban son septet with over 30 years of stage experience. The musicians blend the tradition of Son Cubano from eastern Cuba with a vibrant, contemporary concert style. Now based in Europe, the band performs at festivals and venues in Cuba and throughout Europe. Their repertoire is rooted in traditional Cuban styles, supported by elegant arrangements, polyphonic vocals, and a precise rhythm section. Their concerts span the spectrum from the historical roots of son to its contemporary forms of expression, without losing sight of the music’s original character. Septeto Nabori stands for musical quality, a joy of playing, and an immediate connection with the audience. Born in Sweden and based in Switzerland since 1996, Björn Meyer is acclaimed for his category-defying musicianship, expanding the sonic and expressive possibilities of the electric bass. Honoured with the Swiss Music Prize (2019) and the Canton Bern Music Prize (2018), Meyer continues to redefine the voice of the electric bass across cultures, genres and traditions. His solo-work has led him to festivals and audiences worldwide, from the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg and Ronnie Scott’s in London to Istanbul, Yokohama, Tehran, and beyond. Alongside his solo career, Meyer has forged long-lasting collaborations across diverse musical landscapes. He has, for example, worked extensively with Tunisian oud master Anouar Brahem and, for three decades, shaped contemporary Swedish folk music with Bazar Blå. With &quot;Convergence&quot; (2026), his second solo album on ECM, he further develops music on the blueprint established with his pivotal solo-debut &quot;Provenance&quot; (2017). Produced by Manfred Eicher, these recordings explore the unheard potential of the bass guitar to create striking sonorities and rich-grained textures while also being acutely aware of the acoustic space in which the sounds emerge — what Meyer describes as a “second member” in his solo performances.

Jasmine Myra is one of the most exciting young jazz artists in the United Kingdom. Not only did her last performance result in our bookers shedding tears of joy, but her two previous albums, &quot;Horizons&quot; (2022) and &quot;Rising&quot; (2024), were highly praised by critics. Now, with her new album, &quot;Where Light Settles&quot;, the composer and bandleader is taking the next step in her unique musical journey of discovery. Through nine beautiful compositions, she shares her reflections on life, growth, and progress. She is driven by her vision of duality: “Pain is inevitable, and you will always face difficulties, but without it, you won&#x27;t grow or learn anything about yourself or the world around you. It&#x27;s those bittersweet moments that are heartbreaking but so important.” This latest work is not only her first self-composed album, but also her first self-produced album. Matthew Halsall, head of the Gondwana label and a continuation of the spiritual jazz tradition of Alice Coltrane and Pharoah Sanders, served as co-producer. The album is a colourful soundscape, shaped by Myra&#x27;s affinity for film music.

Christian McBride is an eleven-time GRAMMY-winning bassist, composer, and bandleader. Additionally, he&#x27;s also artistic director, a respected educator and advocate for youth, and radio host. Whether behind the bass or away from it, Christian McBride is always part of the music. From jazz to R&amp;B, and pop/rock and hip-hop/neo-soul to classical, he is a luminary with one hand ever reaching for new heights, and the other extended in fellowship – and perhaps the hint of a challenge – inviting us to join him. Although he has performed with fellow giants Joshua Redman, Brad Mehldau and Brian Blade in recent years, McBride started thinking about forming a new group as early as 2018. &quot;I knew that at some point I wanted to have what I call an &#x27;all-in&#x27; band. As you know, I used to call my old band, the CMB, a hybrid band, which meant we could kind of go anywhere, musically.&quot; With this new quintet, he has a band that can combine different styles in one group. He continues, &quot;Oh, and I also specifically knew I wanted it to be a young band. So I started looking around and seeing who was out there, who I thought might be able to fit that sort of hybrid / all-in vibe.&quot; In Ursa Major, he is joined by four rising young master instrumentalists including saxophonist Nicole Glover, guitarist Ely Perlman, pianist Mike King, and drummer Savannah Harris.

Marina Mello is a Brazilian harpist who lives in Zurich. Building on her classical training, she has developed a unique approach to the harp and its almost infinite range of playing techniques. Mello is distinguished by her ability to transform the harp – an instrument that typically has a gentle sound – into a loud, powerful machine. The focus is on unconventional playing styles such as extended techniques, prepared instruments and the use of effects pedals. During Marina Mello’s first Carte Blanche evening, the air will be filled with rhythms, grooves and electric intensity. As part of the &quot;Abrupto&quot; project, she has created compositions for her new quartet, comprising herself on the harp, Mariá Portugal and Maurício Takara on drums, and Carla Boregas on electronics. &quot;Abrupto&quot; is the result of intensive rehearsals in Berlin, during which ideas, compositions and collaborative creative projects were explored and developed. The audience can look forward to a dynamic programme ranging from structured, notated pieces to works that leave room for improvisation and spontaneous composition.

Sawani Shende-Sathaye is among the defining voices of contemporary Hindustani classical music. Raised in a family with a rich musical heritage, she combines in her singing the melodic clarity of the Kirana gharana, renowned for its subtle exploration of tone and melody, with the expressive power of the Gwalior gharana, whose style is characterised by rhythmic precision and formal clarity. Having performed for the President of India as a teenager, she is now heard on renowned stages around the world. She is joined by two outstanding musicians: Dr. Mukul Acharya on harmonium and Zurich-based tabla virtuoso Shrirang Mirajkar. Together, they reveal the subtle nuances of North Indian classical music with remarkable musical precision and depth. The programme includes classical ragas and khayals as well as semi-classical forms such as thumri and selected bhajans. In this constellation, the concert offers a rare insight into a living tradition that has been passed down through generations and remains one of the most sophisticated forms of musical expression in Indian classical music today.

Singer and composer Simone Santos has been active on the Swiss music scene for many years. Her artistic work combines Brazilian musicality with a clear, personal style of expression that unfolds in her own projects, compositions, and select concert formats. Her voice is at the heart of her work – warm, narrative, and marked by a deep sensitivity to human emotions. As part of various ensembles – including the Santos Quartet, Gafieira Alpina, and Jazz Via Brasil – she has brought Brazilian music to numerous regions of Switzerland and across Europe. She has performed at venues such as the Montreux Jazz Festival, the Sziget Festival in Budapest, SOB’s in New York, and the Global Cuba Fest in Miami. With the release of her five most recent singles – four original compositions performed as a duo with Jodok Hess and a tribute to Guinga – a musical chapter that had long lain dormant within her is now unfolding. The recordings were made beginning in 2010 as part of the now-disbanded Santos Quartet and were completed in 2023. It is a kind of artistic archaeology: unearthing old traces, rediscovering fragments of sound, and gently continuing a story that speaks of inner movement, depth, and those bright, simple moments that shape life. At Moods, Simone Santos presents these five songs – not merely as a release, but as a vivid retelling of their creation. The concert becomes both a retrospective and a new beginning: music that has matured over many years finds its place in the present. The audience is invited to journey through emotional landscapes – through depth, stillness, joy, and lightness, which continue to resonate in each of these pieces.

Based in Basel, Banda do Sururu brings the vibrant spirit of Brazilian music to the stage through groove-driven arrangements, improvisation, and an infectious rhythmic energy. Inspired by the atmosphere of Brazilian dance gatherings, the band creates performances that invite audiences both to listen and to move. The repertoire features creative interpretations of songs by renowned Brazilian composers such as Djavan, Tania Maria, Edu Lobo, João Nogueira and Chico Buarque, alongside original compositions by the group. By combining tradition with contemporary improvisation, the band creates a fresh and dynamic sound rooted in Brazilian musical culture. Since its creation, the project has quickly gained attention in the live music scene of Basel, becoming a lively presence in the city&#x27;s nightlife.

Musical conversations among the musicians, which seek to express what is difficult to put into words: Niculin Janett Quartet&#x27;s fourth album, Toxicology Report, embodies the bands symbiotic, almost dreamlike interplay. The music processes and reflects times of change. Remaining true to himself, Niculin Janett – as always – does so with a wink, allowing not only the heavy, but also the absurd and amusing aspects of the inner and outer worlds to find expression. Janett’s compositions are thus also a call for self-reflection and engagement with one’s own emotional world. Combining the unique voices of Niculin Janett on saxophone and Dimitri Howald on guitar, the Niculin Janett Quartet creates a distinguished sound of ethereal edginess, cunning sophistication and soulful warmth. Blending traditional instruments with electronics and retro Turkish sounds, BaBa ZuLa have created their own distinctive style: “Istanbul Psychedelia.” Deeply rooted in Anatolian traditions yet firmly grounded in the present, their music forms a vibrant bridge between past and present—and between the cultures of Istanbul. Since their formation in 1996, they have combined original compositions with intense improvisation, making each performance a unique experience. Led by Murat Ertel (electric saz, vocals, theremin) and Levent Akman (percussion, machines, objects), and joined by Ümit Adakale (darbuka), Esma Ertel (vocals, dance), as well as rotating bass and oud players, the band creates ritual-like shows that blur the line between concert and total artwork. Yunus Findus is a booker, curator, radio host and DJ based in Zurich, built on mixed traditions, sounds and rhythms from an early age. His mixed background has led him to build bridges and weave influences throughout the music he shares. After several years as booker with Festival da Jazz in St. Moritz, he has been responsible for the program at Moods Zurich. As well as being co-founder of the collectives Beach Club Underground and Half Notes at the Smoke Floor, he has also recently started a monthly residency on local radio station GDS.FM. Santrofi are among the most exciting voices in Ghana’s contemporary Highlife scene. Hailing from Accra, the eight-piece band blends the rich traditions of West African Highlife with funk, Afrobeat, and a vibrant contemporary energy built for the dancefloor. Founded in 2019 by bassist and producer Emmanuel Kwadwo Ofori, Santrofi brings together some of Ghana’s most sought-after musicians – artists who have performed and recorded with legends such as Ebo Taylor, Pat Thomas, and AB Crentsil, while also remaining deeply connected to Ghana’s new generation of artists. Their acclaimed debut album Alewa (2020) introduced Santrofi to international audiences and led to performances at renowned festivals including WOMAD and Roskilde, as well as sold-out tours across Europe, Japan, and the United States. Driven by infectious percussion, rich horn arrangements, and powerful vocal harmonies, Santrofi’s live shows are an electrifying celebration of Highlife. With their latest album Making Moves, Santrofi enter a new chapter: deeply rooted in hypnotic Highlife rhythms while embracing funk, soul, and contemporary Afrobeat influences. Born and raised in Dakar, Senegal, Jah Melody, aka Angle Baye Fall, has been immersed in urban music, reggae, dancehall, dub and African grooves for the past 25 years as a dedicated collector and selector. Based in Zurich since 2006, he has spun records at venues such as Kasheme, Bar 3000, Der Kern, Rote Fabrik and Gotthard Bar, as well as at festivals and sound system events including Reeds and Rundfunk.

Klaus Koenig worked as a sound engineer at Radio Studio Zurich starting in the 1960s and founded the legendary Jazz Live Trio with Peter Frei and Peter Schmidlin. As part of this group, he accompanied soloists such as Johnny Griffin, Dexter Gordon, Clark Terry, Slide Hampton, and many others in over 100 live broadcasts. After a 15-year hiatus due to illness and a cautious return, the Jazz Live Trio celebrated its comeback in 2012 with new, young musicians. Speaking of celebrations: This evening is dedicated entirely to Klaus Koenig’s 90th birthday. Moods extends its warmest congratulations! To celebrate this birthday, Klaus Koenig will be performing twice: first with the Jazz Live Trio, and then with his quintet Seven Things. The Jazz Live Trio’s latest CD &quot;Autumn Girl&quot; was released just in 2025, and their next album &quot;Songs without Words&quot; is coming out soon – and Klaus Koenig has no plans to stop anytime soon.

Their fifth album &quot;An Homage to Celia&quot; was launched on Klaus Koenig’s 88th birthday at Moods in Zurich and received five stars in both Jazz’N’More and the Austrian magazine Concerto. The album &quot;Past and Presence&quot; will be released in the summer of 2026. the music was composed by Klaus Koenig himself and will be launched at Moods on the occasion of his 90th birthday.

Short Cuts

Saxophonist/clarinetist Ned Rothenberg, pianist Sylvie Courvoisier and drummer Nasheet Waits — three of New York City’s top improvisers for the past three decades — have convened to form Short Cuts, a collectively led trio informed by the progressive jazz tradition from Ornette to Zorn (not to mention modernist chamber music and cross-cultural approaches). With Short Cuts, abstraction is tempered by earthiness, in the time-honored New York way. Experimental textures meet rhythmic depth, harmonic sophistication abets free-flying lyricism; this all-improvised music grooves and it sings, swerving to avoid cliché all the while. “It feels so natural to improvise with Ned and Nasheet,” Courvoisier says. “They are such beautiful players, and they both love grooves, even in a freely improvised setting. Winds, piano, drums also make for a relatively uncommon trio, but not having a bass player gives Ned and I more room to play in the lower register, just as it gives Nasheet more freedom with his bass drum. And these guys love to take risks, like I do.”

Martina Berther lays down bass lines that shift, tremble, and suddenly vanish. Julian Sartorius approaches the drums not in terms of measures, but in terms of movements, friction, and leaps. Marina Mello weaves threads through the space with her harp – delicate yet unyielding at the same time. Luca Pilu Koch layers voices, sounds, and colors on top of one another until language becomes sound and sound becomes language. There’s rustling, crackling, humming, and growing. Zurich Jazz Orchestra feat. Sarah Chaksad

Female Composers Series

For over a decade, Swiss composer and alto and soprano saxophonist Sarah Chaksad has been a leading figure on the European jazz scene. Her trademark is her narrative, richly textured musical language, which combines compositional precision with great formal freedom. The international press hails her as an outstanding composer and arranger. Raised in a musical family, Chaksad discovered her passion for the saxophone and composition at an early age. She studied saxophone and music education at the Jazz Institute of the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW). She gained significant inspiration from international masterclasses and collaborations with musicians such as Guillermo Klein, Maria Schneider, Django Bates, and John Hollenbeck. In 2012, she founded the Sarah Chaksad Orchestra, with which she performed regularly on European stages for ten years and recorded the albums “Windmond” (2016) and “Tabriz” (2019, with Wolfgang Muthspiel). With the internationally cast Sarah Chaksad Large Ensemble, she released the album “Together” in 2023, which was praised by critics for its richness of timbre and musical depth. Chaksad is committed to the further development of the jazz scene. She directed the Jazzcampus Club Basel from 2015 to 2020, has co-led the international development program Focusyear with Wolfgang Muthspiel since 2016, and has been a co-director of the Institute of Jazz at the FHNW since 2025. She also co-founded the booking agency Esteam Music and the label Clap Your Hands.

Sometimes there are fabulous bands, sometimes there are fabulous musicians. With this unique line-up, both are true, and one can confidently use superlatives. Each one would be worth a visit on their own, but seeing all these legends together on the same stage is probably a once-in-a-lifetime experience and is sure to set jazz fans’ hearts racing. In addition to their own projects as bandleaders, most of them have served as sidemen for greats such as Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, Carla Bley, Woody Shaw and Oscar Peterson. Now trumpeter Henderson, saxophonist Bartz, trombonist Eubanks and bassist Känzig are reuniting under the leadership of François Lindemann on piano and Alvin Queen on drums for a special reunion. Together, they pay tribute to the grand masters John Coltrane and Miles Davis, who would have celebrated their 100th birthdays this year. In doing so, they do not play the music of these two giants, but follow their example and approach to inventiveness and creativity. This unique concert by living legends will be a tribute to Davis’s and Coltrane’s aesthetic and to what the two have given to jazz.

The sound of Co Streiff’s quartet is idiosyncratic. Her compositions and the band’s finely woven interplay create a rich, atmospheric soundscape. The British music magazine The Wire was impressed by the coolness of their playing and described the music as &quot;glorious, uncategorisable modern music&quot;. Since its debut at the Unerhört Festival in Zurich in 2009, the quartet has continued to evolve. Since 2019 alone, the group has played over 25 concerts in Switzerland, including at the 2024 Willisau Jazz Festival, and has presented numerous new compositions. Live recordings made during a tour in April 2023 are now due to be released in August 2026 under the title &quot;Oracle&quot; on the renowned label INTAKT Records. The music is carried by four strong musical personalities: the versatile and powerful double bassist Christian Weber; the experimental sound explorer Gerry Hemingway on drums; the exceptionally versatile and expressive trumpeter Russ Johnson; and Co Streiff herself, whose warm, earthy saxophone playing lends the music its unmistakable voice.

Fresh from her critically acclaimed collaboration Clay with Matthew Herbert, Momoko Gill steps forward in her own right for the first time with her remarkable debut solo album. She has long been one of the UK electronic and jazz scene’s best-kept secrets. A self-taught drummer, producer, songwriter, and vocalist, she has brought her unique touch to collaborations with Alabaster DePlume, Matthew Herbert, Coby Sey, Tirzah, and Nadeem Din-Gabisi (her musical foil in An Alien Called Harmony). Musician Martial In-Albon brings archaic alphorn sounds into the present through his work. This project began when he recorded the &quot;Miniatures&quot; for his album &quot;Alphorn Tunes&quot; (2025) in the Hünenberg water reservoir in the Chnodenwald, where the reverberation lasts for over 45 seconds. He is now bringing this extraordinary music to the stage. An interplay of natural tones, electroacoustic composition, dance and surround sound comes together to create an immersive performance that connects the past with the present. The timelessness of the sounds creates a connection to the moment, the place, the people and the vibrations of the present. The invisible becomes visible and the intangible becomes tangible, all the while in constant contact with the ever-present interplay of space and time.

Bobby Sparks II is a Grammy Award winning musician and producer steeped in gospel, funk, jazz and blues. He is a key architect behind Snarky Puppy’s signature sound and toured with musical giants including Prince, Marcus Miller, George Benson, Nancy Wilson and Natalie Cole among others. He was also as a core member of Roy Hargrove’s band &quot;The RH Factor&quot;. In a monumental display of his immense musical talent, his latest album &quot;Paranoia&quot; sees Sparks orchestrate a two hour funk opera that masterfully fuses funk, rock, soul, and jazz into a singular, sprawling vision. It is an epic and celebratory sonic journey, brought to life with the help of a stellar lineup of guest musicians, that represents the culmination of his lifelong musical experience. Known for his love for vintage keyboards – from the Hammond B-3, Clavinet and Fender Rhodes to the Mini-Moog and Prophet-5 – Sparks blends analog character with deep pocket funk and electrifying improvisation, making him one of the most versatile and in-demand keyboardists of his generation.

Minyo Crusaders

The Minyo Crusaders are a ten-piece big band from Japan who make no secret of their love for their folk songs (Min’yō). “For the Japanese, Min’yō is the folk music that is both closest to them and yet the furthest away,” says bandleader Katsumi Tanaka. Its essence is deeply rooted within them, even if they do not always realise it. The band reimagines traditional Japanese folk songs by blending them with Latin American, African and Caribbean rhythms. Their powerful and inventive arrangements breathe new life into these traditional working-class folk songs. The fact that this blend is fantastic is evident not only from the fact that the Moods team have been ardent fans since their performance in 2023, but also from renowned artists such as Iggy Pop and Ry Cooder, who described them as “the best band I’ve heard in many years”.

Tim &amp; Puma Mimi are back! The Swiss-Japanese electro duo, known for their techno cucumber, toothpaste flute and Skype concerts, recently even made it into the Hollywood film Ghost in the Shell. After seven years of absence aka raising children aka training interns, another baby is now here: an album with twelve tracks: &quot;More or Less Tim &amp; Puma Mimi&quot;. The play with addition and subtraction runs through the entire album. Many new signature sounds appear: a pocket operator synthesizer that looks like a pocket calculator and sounds like a Gameboy. A vocoder that opened up new possibilities for Mimi&#x27;s unique vocals. Or the KoTaMo, a mix of koto, tambura and monochord - three cultures, three bodies of sound, one instrument. What is striking about the new songs is the (supposed) lack of beats and the even stronger incorporation of Japanese music elements via flute melodies, crickets or folk songs (Aka Tombo, Ryushi), while the unique Tim &amp; Puma-Mimi quirkiness remains at all levels.

The Hillbilly Moon Explosion

Founded in Zurich in the late 1990s, The Hillbilly Moon Explosion is a band that blends rock ’n’ roll with influences from blues, swing, 1960s beat, country, surf and chanson to create a distinctive sound. Thanks to this stylistic diversity, the group has made a name for itself far beyond the rockabilly scene. Although various media outlets have hailed them as one of Switzerland’s finest rockabilly bands, the group is still considered an insider&#x27;s tip. This is partly because they consistently refuse to be pigeonholed into any particular style. Rather than limiting themselves to classic rockabilly patterns, the band incorporates the diverse musical tastes of its members into their sound. This openness is also evident in their latest album, &quot;Back In Time&quot;, which was released in 2024 on Cleopatra Records. Across eleven original compositions and a reggae-inspired rendition of Toussaint McCall’s classic &quot;Nothing Takes the Place of You&quot;, founding members Oliver Baroni and Emanuela Hutter showcase their talents as songwriters. In doing so, the band retains the infectious energy and dynamism that has secured them a loyal fanbase for years.

Oum first studied architecture before turning to music and becoming a true builder of songs. Her foundations lie in the complex rhythms of Morocco; her structures are melodies of rare sensuality; her voice—both powerful and gentle—is the living material of her art. Even as she draws on the languages of jazz, soul, and North African trance, Oum resists all categorization. Her music belongs to a singular artist—free and universal. A committed voice, she stands for freedom, the rights of women and minorities, and for an ecological and humanistic vision of the world. As a UNAIDS ambassador, she transforms her art into a space of resistance and sharing, where spirituality and poetry rise as vital forces. With Dialddar (“homemade”), Oum makes a radical gesture: composing an album without string or wind instruments, relying solely on voice and percussion. A choice that is both a technical challenge and an artistic manifesto. Most of the percussion instruments were handcrafted in Marrakech. Their tuning, sensitive to fluctuations in temperature and humidity, makes each recording fragile, alive, and constantly evolving. It is precisely this organic dimension that Oum sought to preserve: a music that breathes, that escapes control, and finds its truth in the moment.

Greg Hutchinson is one of the most highly regarded drummers of his generation, known for his deep swing, versatility, and unmistakable feel. Since launching his professional career in the late 1980s, he has performed and recorded with jazz greats including Roy Hargrove, Betty Carter, Joshua Redman, Dianne Reeves, John Scofield, and Ray Brown. Equally fluent in bebop, modern jazz, neo-soul, and hip-hop-infused grooves, Hutchinson has appeared on more than 150 recordings and remains an in-demand collaborator on stages and in studios worldwide. His playing blends tradition with modern innovation, making him a defining rhythmic voice in contemporary music. &quot;Kind of Now – The Pulse of Miles Davis&quot; is Gregory Hutchinson’s bold, soulful reimagining of the rhythmic legacy behind Miles Davis. Rather than revisiting the past during this anniversary year, Hutchinson and his all-star ensemble channel the spirit of innovation and dialogue that defined Miles’ greatest bands. The project moves fluidly between swing, groove, and abstraction – a deep, modern conversation built on the pulse that Miles’ drummers once drove. Listening to the abundant sounds of the Seattle-based funk &amp; soul group, True Loves, is like walking down a favorite neighborhood street, slapping five with friends, checking up with clerks in their stores, and smelling the familiar scents of your most cherished locale. The band is its own block party. ‌What began in 2014 as a jam session between three of the city’s best - drummer David McGraw, bassist Bryant Moore, and guitarist Jimmy James - has since blossomed into a global force that features percussionist Iván Galvez, trombonist Greg Kramer, and saxophonists Gordon Brown and Skerik. Together, the group’s live performances have garnered them much acclaim and millions of streams on YouTube. ‌In 2017, True Loves recorded their debut instrumental LP, Famous Last Words, which received worldwide adulation, earning them performances at coveted music festivals. In 2018, the group released the &quot;Dapper Derp/Kabuki&quot; 45&#x27; on WeCoast Records followed by 2019&#x27;s Colemine Records &quot;Famous Last Words/Mary Pop Poppins&quot; 45 single. The band released their sophomore album &quot;Sunday Afternoon&quot; in 2021, on Color Red Music. 2024 saw the band release their latest &quot;Good Weed and Red Wine&quot; followed by their second European tour. A second single, &quot;Dopus No. 1&quot; was released in January 2025 with a vinyl 7&quot; release of both songs on Valentine&#x27;s day.

Having already released several CDs featuring compositions by all four band members, this Carte Blanche evening sees Root Area focus on new original compositions penned by Elmar Frey. His compositional style is characterized by rhythm, groove, and colorful melodies, which – through the contributions of Nicole Johänntgen, Christoph Grab, and Marcel Thomi – develop into a rich band sound and an incredibly captivating energy.

Singer, songwriter, and producer China Moses develops her art and music in an open and honest way. Her music is defiantly authentic and defies what so many labels and critics want: a label. She captivates her listeners with her deep sense of rhythm, her sensitivity, and her wit, drawing inspiration from countless styles within the vast tradition of African American music. Open and fearless, China’s songs document fleeting emotional states and expansive narratives, often turning to self-reflection in both her lyrics and phrasing. China Moses and Ed Partyka have been collaborating since 2014 and have built a strong artistic connection based on mutual respect and trust. Over the years, Ed has arranged many of China’s original compositions, as well as selected songs from the pop, soul, and gospel repertoires, for jazz orchestra.

«We Dream»

Lakecia Benjamin approaches her music and performances with a take-no-prisoners attitude. After primarily performing as an accompanist for artists such as Alicia Keys, Missy Elliot, Gregory Porter and Theo Croker, she introduced the world to her own voice. While her first two studio albums leaned into jazz-funk and soul, in 2020 she referenced her bebop and spiritual influences with &quot;Pursuance: The Coltranes&quot;, an album that brought together several generations of the genre’s luminaries, including greats such as Marcus Strickland, Brandee Younger, Reginald Workman, and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Her 2023 album “Phoenix” is a double metaphor. Lakecia Benjamin refers to the New York City she grew up in and watched slowly die during the pandemic and then come back to life. But it is also a personal reference to the death which she miraculously escapes from in the Fall of 2021 following a serious car accident. This new opus is also an opportunity to highlight her own compositions as well as the creativity, talent and commitment of the female artists she surrounds herself with. “Phoenix”, which earned her three Grammy nominations, marks yet another stratospheric rise for an artist who resolutely knows what she wants to say and how to say it, all the while honoring her mentors and the traditions that have come before her. Her newest album, &quot;We Dream&quot; was released early June 2026 on Artwork Records (PiAS).

Mario Lucio is a singer, guitarist, composer, poet, author, thinker, and former Minister of Culture of Cape Verde. As a visionary artist and dedicated advocate of creolization, he brings together African, European, and diasporic influences in his work. His music is a tribute to the cultural diversity that shapes Cape Verdean identity. With his latest album, Independance, Mario Lucio reflects on the profound transformations that Cape Verdean music underwent following the country’s independence in 1975. Traditional forms of expression such as Batuko, Tabanka, and Funaná, long suppressed, returned to the stage and became symbols of cultural self-determination. Together with the Pan African Band, whose members represent four African nations, he celebrates the 50th anniversary of the independence of the former Portuguese colonies and the cultural renaissance of Lusophone Africa. Independance combines personal memories with a pan-African vision. The title deliberately merges the words Independence and Dance, symbolizing freedom, movement, and the revival of a vibrant popular culture. Musically, Lucio builds bridges between the Cape Verdean islands and the African mainland. Influences from Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Ghana, Senegal, Nigeria, and the Congo blend with Afrobeats, Soukous, Rumba, and Cape Verdean rhythms to create a powerful and contemporary sound.

Angelo Romeu is a music selector from the south of Portugal who has been playing music in various venues for over 20 years. With his broad repertoire of music, he manages to get audiences dancing or relaxing by the pool. His travels have taken him to Oslo, Lisbon and currently to Zurich, where he is part of the Kasheme project. He loves sharing musical treasures and taking people on a journey through his record collection.

Robert Lucaciu Fallen Crooner

The German-Romanian double bassist and composer Robert Lucaciu (1988) deconstructs his own (cis-)male self-understanding in his latest project Fallen Crooner and invites musicians Laura Totenhagen, Pascal Klewer, Shannon Barnett, Sofía Salvo, and Moritz Baumgärtner to engage in a joyful discourse on gender roles. In a montage of Lucaciu&#x27;s original compositions, well-known songs, and text sequences from various authors, free improvisation plays a central role—questioning the moment with an open outcome. Angel Bat Dawid

Hailing from Chicago, Angel Bat Dawid is a composer, clarinettist, pianist, singer, DJ and teacher who blends spiritual jazz, free improvisation and African-American musical traditions to create a powerful, distinctive sound. She gained international attention in 2019 with her debut album &quot;The Oracle&quot;, which she recorded using only her mobile phone. This critically acclaimed work propelled her to meteoric fame. Dawid tours the world with her ensemble, Tha Brothahood, and released the highly acclaimed album &quot;LIVE&quot; in 2020, which received praise from NPR and Pitchfork, among others. She also leads the all-female group Sistazz of the Nitty Gritty and is involved in numerous avant-garde projects in Chicago. She has collaborated with artists such as Damon Locks, Ben LaMar Gay and Roscoe Mitchell. Whether performing solo or with an ensemble, her concerts are intense, spiritual experiences that foster a sense of community, remembrance and transcendence. Thanks to her uncompromising creativity and charismatic stage presence, she is now one of the artists having the greatest influence on the future of jazz and improvised music. divr makes music that celebrates the moment. divr consists of Philipp Eden (piano), Raphael Walser (bass), and Jonas Ruther (drums). Bárbara Tinoco is one of the leading voices in contemporary Portuguese pop music. She rose to fame in 2018 through The Voice Portugal and her first solo single, “Antes Dela Dizer Que Sim,” which quickly garnered widespread attention. Since then, she has released hit songs and the albums Bárbara (2021) and Bichinho (2023), solidifying her place in the Portuguese music scene.
