Thanks to encounters, imaginations and memories, each new creation becomes a unique piece. Leading various bands and travel the world's stage, Jalal has produced 9 albums, unveiling her personal musical universe with each, in turn giving her meaning to the word freedom. With "Landscapes of Eternity", Jalal explores the fundamental connection between music, nature, and spirituality at the heart of the Hindustani tradition. Traveling alone in North India for several months, she journeyed through landscapes and sacred sites, met masters and musicians, and immersed herself in this singular experience, inviting us to discover a new way of listening to the world. From this immersion emerged an intimate, contemplative, and profound repertoire, where the flute becomes the vehicle for an inner journey rooted in the breath of all living things.

Sylvie Courvoisier, Ned Rothenberg, Nasheet Waits

Short Cuts

Saxophonist/clarinetist Ned Rothenberg, pianist Sylvie Courvoisier and drummer Nasheet Waits – three of New York City’s top improvisers for the past three decades – have convened to form Short Cuts, a collectively led trio informed by the progressive jazz tradition from Ornette to Zorn (not to mention modernist chamber music and cross-cultural approaches). With Short Cuts, abstraction is tempered by earthiness, in the time-honored New York way. Experimental textures meet rhythmic depth, harmonic sophistication abets free-flying lyricism; this all-improvised music grooves and it sings, swerving to avoid cliché all the while. “It feels so natural to improvise with Ned and Nasheet,” Courvoisier says. “They are such beautiful players, and they both love grooves, even in a freely improvised setting. Winds, piano, drums also make for a relatively uncommon trio, but not having a bass player gives Ned and I more room to play in the lower register, just as it gives Nasheet more freedom with his bass drum. And these guys love to take risks, like I do.”

Luca Pilu Koch & Marina Mello: worldbuzzpoems I

Two days of improvised music and poetry. Marina Mello’s harp screeches. Luca Koch writes poems about bubbling, humming, and trembling. About pressure. About heat. About movements beneath the surface. We seem to be living in a giant pressure cooker. It’s getting hotter. The pressure is rising. Don’t let anyone lift the lid. So let’s let off some steam. In sound. In language. In air turbulence and sound waves. Carte Blanche artists Marina Mello and Luca Koch have put together two bands for this event that improvise in a fresh, urgent, and powerful way. They grab hold of the words, drive them forward, break them down, and carry them onward. The poems buzz. The music responds. We all hum along. Songs of sound clouds accumulate. It hisses, crackles, throbs, and pushes its way through the room. Fragments gather, condense, and dissolve again. No lid. No valve. Just two days of controlled loss of control.

Mayas / Mello / Voutchkova / Koch

Carte Blanche artists Marina Mello and Luca Koch have assembled bands for their worldbuzzpoems that improvise with freshness, urgency, and power. Magda Mayas is a poet of piano keys and strings. Biliana Voutchkova draws an entire orchestra from her violin. Marina Mello’s harp enchants from the ears down to the pit of the stomach, while Luca Pilu Koch paints with every shade of the human voice. Together, they reach for words, propel them forward, take them apart, and carry them onward. The music buzzes. The poems catch the waves. We all hum along. Sound-cloud-songs accumulate. They hiss, crackle, pulse, and move through the room. Fragments gather, condense, and dissolve again. No lid. No valve. Just two days of controlled loss of control.

Luca Pilu Koch & Marina Mello: worldbuzzpoems II

Julian Sartorius and Luca Pilu Koch will open the second evening of worldbuzzpoems. Drums and voice. Two of the most archaic instruments of all. Skin. Air. Wood. Body. Julian Sartorius makes the drums speak, crackle, roll, and tremble. Luca Pilu Koch writes and recites poems about movements beneath the surface. About pressure. About closeness. About what can barely find a place in language. Rhythm meets breath. Words meet resonance.

Carte Blanche artists Marina Mello and Luca Koch have assembled bands for their worldbuzzpoems that improvise with a fresh, urgent, and powerful energy. Martina Berther lays down bass lines that shift, tremble, and suddenly vanish. Julian Sartorius approaches the drums not in terms of measures, but in terms of movements, friction, and leaps. Marina Mello weaves threads through the space with her harp – delicate yet unyielding at the same time. Luca Pilu Koch layers voices, sounds, and colors on top of one another until language becomes sound and sound becomes language. There’s rustling, crackling, humming, and growing. Individual elements become landscapes. Impulses become songs. Two days of controlled loss of control.

François Lindemann-Alvin Queen Sextet

feat. Eddie Henderson, Greg Osby, Robin Eubanks and Heiri Känzig

Sometimes there are fabulous bands, sometimes there are fabulous musicians. With this unique line-up, both are true, and one can confidently use superlatives. Each one would be worth a visit on their own, but seeing all these legends together on the same stage is probably a once-in-a-lifetime experience and is sure to set jazz fans’ hearts racing. In addition to their own projects as bandleaders, most of them have served as sidemen for greats such as Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Elvin Jones, Carla Bley, Woody Shaw and Oscar Peterson. Now trumpeter Henderson, saxophonist Bartz, trombonist Eubanks and bassist Känzig are reuniting under the leadership of François Lindemann on piano and Alvin Queen on drums for a special reunion. Together, they pay tribute to the grand masters John Coltrane and Miles Davis, who would have celebrated their 100th birthdays this year. In doing so, they do not play the music of these two giants, but follow their example and approach to inventiveness and creativity. This unique concert by living legends will be a tribute to Davis’s and Coltrane’s aesthetic and to what the two have given to jazz.

Co Streiff – Russ Johnson Quartet

Album Release «Oracle»

The sound of Co Streiff’s quartet is idiosyncratic. Her compositions and the band’s finely woven interplay create a rich, atmospheric soundscape. The British music magazine The Wire was impressed by the coolness of their playing and described the music as "glorious, uncategorisable modern music". Since its debut at the Unerhört Festival in Zurich in 2009, the quartet has continued to evolve. Since 2019 alone, the group has played over 25 concerts in Switzerland, including at the 2024 Willisau Jazz Festival, and has presented numerous new compositions. Live recordings made during a tour in April 2023 are now due to be released in August 2026 under the title "Oracle" on the renowned label INTAKT Records. The music is carried by four strong musical personalities: the versatile and powerful double bassist Christian Weber; the experimental sound explorer Gerry Hemingway on drums; the exceptionally versatile and expressive trumpeter Russ Johnson; and Co Streiff herself, whose warm, earthy saxophone playing lends the music its unmistakable voice.

Momoko Gill

Fresh from her critically acclaimed collaboration Clay with Matthew Herbert, Momoko Gill steps forward in her own right for the first time with her remarkable debut solo album. She has long been one of the UK electronic and jazz scene’s best-kept secrets. A self-taught drummer, producer, songwriter, and vocalist, she has brought her unique touch to collaborations with Alabaster DePlume, Matthew Herbert, Coby Sey, Tirzah, and Nadeem Din-Gabisi (her musical foil in An Alien Called Harmony). But, with "Momoko", she emerges into the spotlight with an album that is entirely her own. Throughout, you can hear the stylistic flavours of jazz musicians as much as singer-songwriters, experimental artists and electronic producers. Though Momoko Gill rejects imitation, sculpting her sound through feel and expression rather than tradition. Based in London and having grown up in Japan and the US, Gill channels her breadth of perspective through her musical ideas and storytelling, with a unique voice developed through instinct, collaboration and solitary study.

Daniel Erdmann's Thérapie de Couple

«I Wanna Hold Your Hand, François»

It’s time for a couple to settle their differences. The couple in question? France and Germany – The engine of Europe, which now and then finds itself in crisis. Daniel Erdmann knows both sides very well, the differences, the similarities, the possible misunderstandings, the psychology of the two countries making him the perfect counsellor. To help him, Daniel has put together a French-German sextet. Opting to work with a combination of those he already knows very well and having the security that comes with that and inviting completely new people who bring with them the desire and magic of uncertainty to spice things up. Don’t miss this chance to see this spellbinding ensemble of virtuoso players on their first ever visit to Zurich: the young French clarinettist Catherine Delaunay, hi-energy drummer Eva Klesse and bassist Henning Sieverts, two established greats of the German jazz scene, and the phenomenal expressive talents of French string soloists Théo Ceccaldi and Vincent Courtois.

Los Dos für Familien

They’re always there. When the swamp gets too wet, the prairie too dusty, or the asphalt too hot. They rock and growl like a handful of alligators, oscillating between raw swamp blues and psychedelic influences. On stage, they’re free, living on blind faith and blasting out the primal sounds the Mississippi Delta taught them. Oaxaca (MX), New Orleans (LA), Istanbul (T), and Grindelwald (CH) are just a few of the places that shape the sound of LOS DOS. Wherever they play, not a single ear remains dry... This concert is part of the Schiffbau Festival and is free for everyone. However, you must reserve a ticket. Sullivan Fortner Trio

«Leave that in there»

Hailing from New Orleans, Sullivan Fortner has been regarded as one of the finest jazz pianists of his generation for over a decade. The Grammy-winning artist, composer and bandleader captivates audiences with his tonal depth, stylistic versatility, and exceptional improvisational talent. He also spent many years performing alongside American jazz stars such as Roy Hargrove, Christian Scott and Stefon Harris. He gained international recognition for his solo album "Solo Game" (2024) and for his work as co-producer and pianist on "The Window", the album he recorded with the young jazz diva Cécile McLorin Salvant. Together, they performed an unforgettable duo set on the Moods stage. Fortner is now coming to visit with his trio and a new album in hand. "Leave that in there" is being released on Artwork Records this year and follows the highly acclaimed and 2026 GRAMMY awarded previous album, "Southern Nights". In the trio, Fortner prioritises unadulterated, honest musical expression over perfection, embracing spontaneous, unpractised moments, mistakes, and raw recordings to capture genuine emotion. This concert is part of the Schiffbau Festival and is free for everyone. However, you must reserve a ticket. Martial In-Albon feat. Seraina Tall

«Alphorn Tunes»

Musician Martial In-Albon brings archaic alphorn sounds into the present through his work. This project began when he recorded the "Miniatures" for his album "Alphorn Tunes" (2025) in the Hünenberg water reservoir in the Chnodenwald, where the reverberation lasts for over 45 seconds. He is now bringing this extraordinary music to the stage. An interplay of natural tones, electroacoustic composition, dance and surround sound comes together to create an immersive performance that connects the past with the present. The timelessness of the sounds creates a connection to the moment, the place, the people and the vibrations of the present. The invisible becomes visible and the intangible becomes tangible, all the while in constant contact with the ever-present interplay of space and time.

Bobby Sparks II

Bobby Sparks II is a Grammy Award winning musician and producer steeped in gospel, funk, jazz and blues. He is a key architect behind Snarky Puppy’s signature sound and toured with musical giants including Prince, Marcus Miller, George Benson, Nancy Wilson and Natalie Cole among others. He was also as a core member of Roy Hargrove’s band "The RH Factor". In a monumental display of his immense musical talent, his latest album "Paranoia" sees Sparks orchestrate a two hour funk opera that masterfully fuses funk, rock, soul, and jazz into a singular, sprawling vision. It is an epic and celebratory sonic journey, brought to life with the help of a stellar lineup of guest musicians, that represents the culmination of his lifelong musical experience. Known for his love for vintage keyboards – from the Hammond B-3, Clavinet and Fender Rhodes to the Mini-Moog and Prophet-5 – Sparks blends analog character with deep pocket funk and electrifying improvisation, making him one of the most versatile and in-demand keyboardists of his generation.

Minyo Crusaders

The Minyo Crusaders are a ten-piece big band from Japan who make no secret of their love for their folk songs (Min’yō). “For the Japanese, Min’yō is the folk music that is both closest to them and yet the furthest away,” says bandleader Katsumi Tanaka. Its essence is deeply rooted within them, even if they do not always realise it. The band reimagines traditional Japanese folk songs by blending them with Latin American, African and Caribbean rhythms. Their powerful and inventive arrangements breathe new life into these traditional working-class folk songs. The fact that this blend is fantastic is evident not only from the fact that the Moods team have been ardent fans since their performance in 2023, but also from renowned artists such as Iggy Pop and Ry Cooder, who described them as “the best band I’ve heard in many years”.

Tim & Puma Mimi

Tim & Puma Mimi are back! The Swiss-Japanese electro duo, known for their techno cucumber, toothpaste flute and Skype concerts, recently even made it into the Hollywood film Ghost in the Shell. After seven years of absence aka raising children aka training interns, another baby is now here: an album with twelve tracks: "More or Less Tim & Puma Mimi". The play with addition and subtraction runs through the entire album. Many new signature sounds appear: a pocket operator synthesizer that looks like a pocket calculator and sounds like a Gameboy. A vocoder that opened up new possibilities for Mimi's unique vocals. Or the KoTaMo, a mix of koto, tambura and monochord - three cultures, three bodies of sound, one instrument. What is striking about the new songs is the (supposed) lack of beats and the even stronger incorporation of Japanese music elements via flute melodies, crickets or folk songs (Aka Tombo, Ryushi), while the unique Tim & Puma-Mimi quirkiness remains at all levels.

The Hillbilly Moon Explosion

Founded in Zurich in the late 1990s, The Hillbilly Moon Explosion is a band that blends rock ’n’ roll with influences from blues, swing, 1960s beat, country, surf and chanson to create a distinctive sound. Thanks to this stylistic diversity, the group has made a name for itself far beyond the rockabilly scene. Although various media outlets have hailed them as one of Switzerland’s finest rockabilly bands, the group is still considered an insider's tip. This is partly because they consistently refuse to be pigeonholed into any particular style. Rather than limiting themselves to classic rockabilly patterns, the band incorporates the diverse musical tastes of its members into their sound. This openness is also evident in their latest album, "Back In Time", which was released in 2024 on Cleopatra Records. Across eleven original compositions and a reggae-inspired rendition of Toussaint McCall’s classic "Nothing Takes the Place of You", founding members Oliver Baroni and Emanuela Hutter showcase their talents as songwriters. In doing so, the band retains the infectious energy and dynamism that has secured them a loyal fanbase for years.

Paul Amereller Trio

jazzhane & Moods present

Until the concert begins at 8:30 p.m., the Paul Amereller Trio will welcome guests with live music. The three Zurich-based musicians—Paul Amereller (drums), Xaver Rüegg (bass), and Leandro Irarragorri (piano)—share a common musical language: improvised, structured, open, and with a keen sense of rhythm and sound. In the trio, these three perspectives come together directly: bass, piano, and drums serve as the starting point for music that emerges in the moment. Dynamic, rhythmically focused, and full of energy—always with room for surprises. Three musicians who don’t simply play together, but listen to one another and develop the music collectively.

Oum first studied architecture before turning to music and becoming a true builder of songs. Her foundations lie in the complex rhythms of Morocco; her structures are melodies of rare sensuality; her voice—both powerful and gentle—is the living material of her art. Even as she draws on the languages of jazz, soul, and North African trance, Oum resists all categorization. Her music belongs to a singular artist—free and universal. A committed voice, she stands for freedom, the rights of women and minorities, and for an ecological and humanistic vision of the world. As a UNAIDS ambassador, she transforms her art into a space of resistance and sharing, where spirituality and poetry rise as vital forces. With Dialddar (“homemade”), Oum makes a radical gesture: composing an album without string or wind instruments, relying solely on voice and percussion. A choice that is both a technical challenge and an artistic manifesto. Most of the percussion instruments were handcrafted in Marrakech. Their tuning, sensitive to fluctuations in temperature and humidity, makes each recording fragile, alive, and constantly evolving. It is precisely this organic dimension that Oum sought to preserve: a music that breathes, that escapes control, and finds its truth in the moment.

Gregory Hutchinson Quintet

«Kind of Now – The Pulse of Miles Davis»

Greg Hutchinson is one of the most highly regarded drummers of his generation, known for his deep swing, versatility, and unmistakable feel. Since launching his professional career in the late 1980s, he has performed and recorded with jazz greats including Roy Hargrove, Betty Carter, Joshua Redman, Dianne Reeves, John Scofield, and Ray Brown. Equally fluent in bebop, modern jazz, neo-soul, and hip-hop-infused grooves, Hutchinson has appeared on more than 150 recordings and remains an in-demand collaborator on stages and in studios worldwide. His playing blends tradition with modern innovation, making him a defining rhythmic voice in contemporary music. "Kind of Now – The Pulse of Miles Davis" is Gregory Hutchinson’s bold, soulful reimagining of the rhythmic legacy behind Miles Davis. Rather than revisiting the past during this anniversary year, Hutchinson and his all-star ensemble channel the spirit of innovation and dialogue that defined Miles’ greatest bands. The project moves fluidly between swing, groove, and abstraction – a deep, modern conversation built on the pulse that Miles’ drummers once drove. With its lush harmonies, fearless improvisation, and Hutchinson’s signature rhythmic clarity, "Kind of Now" feels at once timeless and alive – a living heartbeat of jazz that connects the then and the now. For this project, Hutchinson has joined forces with an incredibly talented band: Milena Casado, Seamus Blake, Aaron Parks and Jason Weaver complete the line-up.

True Loves

Listening to the abundant sounds of the Seattle-based funk & soul group, True Loves, is like walking down a favorite neighborhood street, slapping five with friends, checking up with clerks in their stores, and smelling the familiar scents of your most cherished locale. The band is its own block party. ‌What began in 2014 as a jam session between three of the city’s best - drummer David McGraw, bassist Bryant Moore, and guitarist Jimmy James - has since blossomed into a global force that features percussionist Iván Galvez, trombonist Greg Kramer, and saxophonists Gordon Brown and Skerik. Together, the group’s live performances have garnered them much acclaim and millions of streams on YouTube. ‌In 2017, True Loves recorded their debut instrumental LP, Famous Last Words, which received worldwide adulation, earning them performances at coveted music festivals. In 2018, the group released the "Dapper Derp/Kabuki" 45' on WeCoast Records followed by 2019's Colemine Records "Famous Last Words/Mary Pop Poppins" 45 single. The band released their sophomore album "Sunday Afternoon" in 2021, on Color Red Music. 2024 saw the band release their latest "Good Weed and Red Wine" followed by their second European tour. A second single, "Dopus No. 1" was released in January 2025 with a vinyl 7" release of both songs on Valentine's day.

Hidèn Harlekin @ JazzBaragge

Zurich Jazz Orchestra feat. China Moses

Singer, songwriter, and producer China Moses develops her art and music in an open and honest way. Her music is defiantly authentic and defies what so many labels and critics want: a label. She captivates her listeners with her deep sense of rhythm, her sensitivity, and her wit, drawing inspiration from countless styles within the vast tradition of African American music. Open and fearless, China’s songs document fleeting emotional states and expansive narratives, often turning to self-reflection in both her lyrics and phrasing. China Moses and Ed Partyka have been collaborating since 2014 and have built a strong artistic connection based on mutual respect and trust. Over the years, Ed has arranged many of China’s original compositions, as well as selected songs from the pop, soul, and gospel repertoires, for jazz orchestra.

Lakecia Benjamin

«We Dream»

Lakecia Benjamin approaches her music and performances with a take-no-prisoners attitude. After primarily performing as an accompanist for artists such as Alicia Keys, Missy Elliot, Gregory Porter and Theo Croker, she introduced the world to her own voice. While her first two studio albums leaned into jazz-funk and soul, in 2020 she referenced her bebop and spiritual influences with "Pursuance: The Coltranes", an album that brought together several generations of the genre’s luminaries, including greats such as Marcus Strickland, Brandee Younger, Reginald Workman, and Dee Dee Bridgewater. Her 2023 album “Phoenix” is a double metaphor. Lakecia Benjamin refers to the New York City she grew up in and watched slowly die during the pandemic and then come back to life. But it is also a personal reference to the death which she miraculously escapes from in the Fall of 2021 following a serious car accident. This new opus is also an opportunity to highlight her own compositions as well as the creativity, talent and commitment of the female artists she surrounds herself with. “Phoenix”, which earned her three Grammy nominations, marks yet another stratospheric rise for an artist who resolutely knows what she wants to say and how to say it, all the while honoring her mentors and the traditions that have come before her. Her newest album, "We Dream" was released early June 2026 on Artwork Records (PiAS).

Mario Lucio & The Pan African Band

Adalu, Moods & the Portuguese Consulate present

Mario Lucio is a singer, guitarist, composer, poet, author, thinker, and former Minister of Culture of Cape Verde. As a visionary artist and dedicated advocate of creolization, he brings together African, European, and diasporic influences in his work. His music is a tribute to the cultural diversity that shapes Cape Verdean identity. With his latest album, Independance, Mario Lucio reflects on the profound transformations that Cape Verdean music underwent following the country’s independence in 1975. Traditional forms of expression such as Batuko, Tabanka, and Funaná, long suppressed, returned to the stage and became symbols of cultural self-determination. Together with the Pan African Band, whose members represent four African nations, he celebrates the 50th anniversary of the independence of the former Portuguese colonies and the cultural renaissance of Lusophone Africa. Independance combines personal memories with a pan-African vision. The title deliberately merges the words Independence and Dance, symbolizing freedom, movement, and the revival of a vibrant popular culture. Musically, Lucio builds bridges between the Cape Verdean islands and the African mainland. Influences from Angola, Guinea-Bissau, Ghana, Senegal, Nigeria, and the Congo blend with Afrobeats, Soukous, Rumba, and Cape Verdean rhythms to create a powerful and contemporary sound.

E-Gitarre

Robert Lucaciu Fallen Crooner

Unfortunately, Robert Lucaciu’s ‘Fallen Crooner’ concert on 22 November 2026 has had to be cancelled due to illness. We are currently looking for an alternative date. Tickets already purchased will remain valid. The German-Romanian double bassist and composer Robert Lucaciu (1988) deconstructs his own (cis-)male self-understanding in his latest project Fallen Crooner and invites musicians Laura Totenhagen, Pascal Klewer, Shannon Barnett, Sofía Salvo, and Moritz Baumgärtner to engage in a joyful discourse on gender roles. In a montage of Lucaciu's original compositions, well-known songs, and text sequences from various authors, free improvisation plays a central role—questioning the moment with an open outcome. This creates a musical discussion whose strength lies in living the questions in all their intensity and dissolving the urgency for quick answers with a sense of goodwill. Each musician is allowed to celebrate their own diversity and savour all the nuances their instrument has to offer. Individual narratives are reduced to their essence by the ensemble and reassembled in an intense dialogue. Moods and the renowned Swiss jazz label UNIT Records join forces with "UNIT live!" to share the diversity of UNIT jazz. We will be showcasing the diversity of UNIT jazz by bringing the latest releases from the UNIT universe to the Moods stage at regular intervals.

Sixty Degrees

Album Release «To Measure An Earth»

Although the three gentlemen have known each other for quite some time, they didn’t form the band until the long winter of 2019. Using a combination of trumpet, drums and modular synthesizers, the father-and-sons trio Sixty Degrees creates a soundscape that knows no dogmatic boundaries. Sixty Degrees will finally present their debut album "To Measure An Earth" in October 2026. Their music is danceable, deep and multidimensional, flowing seamlessly between structured compositions and open forms to create a deeply melodic sonic journey. In "To Measure An Earth", grooves and sounds are broken down and reassembled until a dynamic blend of contemporary jazz, electronic beats, and improvisation emerges. It is a versatile, highly agile performance that gets under your skin and gets your feet moving.

Modular

Phraim

«Sirens»

The Switzerland-based quartet was founded in 2016 by Nina Reiter, Marc Mezgolits and Peter Primus Frosch out of a desire to break new musical ground. Following three albums that have been highly acclaimed by the international specialist press – 2018’s "/fɹeɪm/", 2020’s "Tides" and 2022’s "Hysteria" – and several line-up changes, the core trio is now joined by guitarist Mareille Merck. The four musicians see themselves as a true collective: each contributes their own compositions, which are then further developed together. The result is music that defies categorisation – rich in contrast, ever-changing and yet unmistakably rooted in the band’s sound. With their new album "Sirens", the band embarks on another exciting chapter. The title draws on the mythological sirens of ancient Greece – powerful, fascinating creatures whose voices irresistibly captivated their listeners. In the compositions, this metaphor is reinterpreted: it alludes to feminist themes, raises questions about female self-determination and harnesses the power of music to seduce, unsettle and stir the listener in equal measure. The sound of "Sirens" is multi-layered: atmospheric improvisations, powerful interplay and delicate interludes weave together to form an expressive whole. Like the mythical sirens, who embody both danger and beauty, the pieces also revolve around ambivalent emotional worlds – sometimes menacing, sometimes comforting, yet always intense. The result is a sophisticated soundscape that impresses not only through its virtuosity, but also through its thematic relevance: contemporary jazz that captivates, inspires and raises a clear voice in the present day. With "Sirens", the quartet continues its journey with unwavering commitment – and invites the audience to let themselves be swept away by this music.

High D

Luca Pilu Koch

They yodel to lure the fairies out of the bushes and stomp their feet to scare the snakes away from the Madrisa Alp. High D seeks out archaic energies that have fallen into oblivion. Swiss myths and legends are the first landmarks on the young duo’s musical journey. Through their music, they transport listeners to the settings of legends throughout the Alpine region, from the caves of Vallorbe to the basilisk of Basel and the Hölloch caves in the Muota Valley in Schwyz. Lucas and Luca interweave showers of sound and 'Jützli', clouds of guitar and synth drones. Raw soundscapes capture the emotions of the stories, while lyrics in dialect convey their narratives and moral questions. Composition meets improvisation, navigating the space between archaic ritual, noise, folk music and experimental sound exploration. Meanwhile, they shepherd a flock of mini-amps that dance in a circle with them, carrying the vibrations further into mountain valleys, crevices and glacial crevasses. They are punky, queer and deeply rooted in the Alps.

Nana Benz du Togo

Under the name Nana-Benz (“The Mothers with the Benz”), a group of Togolese women became well known from the 1980s onward. As traders of printed textiles, they were so successful that they “turned their country into a hub of the textile trade in West Africa.” They symbolized the economic, social, and political status they gained through this success by purchasing luxury vehicles, primarily of the Mercedes-Benz brand. They are regarded as the first female millionaires on the African continent. To this day, the vehicles are passed down from the mothers to their daughters. The band plays music that is built for the dance floor, fusing Voodoo tradition with soul. There are five of them, like the fingers of one hand. A hand ready to form a fist and strike with power, or gently caress the earth with groove and grace. Nana Benz du Togo channels an organic sound steeped in sub-bass and layered with complex polyrhythms, creating a hypnotic foundation for the voices of three electrifying electro-soul preachers. Their message remains centred on feminist and environmental themes sung in harmony with the scales of the Togolese voodoo tradition. Armed with nothing more than their voices and a vintage Korg keyboard, this powerful ensemble crafts a sound that is both raw and transcendent. Their live shows are nothing short of spiritual – a blend of ancestral energy and modern fire that has left thousands in a trance across European stages.

Rhodri Davies

Marina Mello

Marina Mello’s final carte blanche evening will be a unique and rare opportunity to experience an evening at Moods dedicated entirely to the harp. The program features two solo performances: one by Rhodri Davies and the other by Marina Mello. While sharing a deep passion for the instrument and a similar approach to it, both artists have developed their own distinctive and personal ways of exploring the harp, from their choice of harp type to their use of extended techniques and electronics. Rhodri Davies is a Welsh harpist, improviser, composer and multidisciplinary artist. His possibilities for exploring the concept of the harp” seem almost endless, whether it’s the classical harp, the Bray harp, the horsehair harp, or the electric harp; installations involving wind, water, ice, or fire; or experimentation with preparations and detunings. It is therefore no coincidence that Davies is considered one of the most prominent members of the London School of Reductionist Improvised Music.

Marina Mello is a Brazilian harpist living in Zurich. Building on her classical training, she has developed a unique approach to the harp and its almost infinite playing possibilities. Focusing on unconventional playing styles such as extended techniques, string preparation and the use of effects pedals, she has transforms the gentle-sounding instrument into a powerful machine. In September 2025, her debut solo album Deságua was released on the Peruvian label Buh Records.

Don Glori

Although he’s actually from Melbourne, Don Glori is one of the up-and-coming new voices on the London jazz scene. Like London, the Australian metropolis is considered a musical melting pot and has produced renowned jazz groups such as Hiatus Kaiyote, 30/70 and Mildlife. Influenced by this melting pot, Don Glori’s music blends elements of jazz, funk, soul, R&B and samba to create a unique sound that shimmers with a golden glow. One thing that is unmistakable, however, is the joy of playing that runs through all of his music. In 2023, he moved to London and released his latest two albums "Don’t Forget to Have Fun" in 2024 and "Paper Can’t Wrap Fire" in 2025. Since then, he has performed on numerous stages, including Jassmine, Ronnie Scott’s, and We Out Here. It’s high time, then, for a visit to Moods.

Müller-Kramis-Baschnagel

25 Year Anniversary

For 25 years, Gregor Müller (piano), Herbert Kramis (double bass) and Pius Baschnagel (drums) have been playing together in the same line-up. Their long-standing collaboration has fostered a close friendship – and a musical dialogue that, to this day, thrives on openness, trust and the joy of discovering new things together. The trio’s music consists almost exclusively of their own compositions. The fact that all three musicians compose has a decisive influence on their sound. The pieces bear different stylistic signatures – lyrical jazz meets classical timbres, Latin American influences, odd metres, groovy passages and atmospheric ballads. The differences remain audible and, through their interplay, coalesce into a shared language. Composition and improvisation are in constant dialogue. The music evolves in the moment, thriving on attentive listening and a willingness to share ideas, pick them up and develop them further together. In this way, every concert evening remains open to new directions. Four Album recordings – most recently *Mirror*, and before that *Oleaje* – trace the trio’s journey. Their true home, however, remains the stage: there, familiar compositions are constantly transformed into new musical stories. Their 25th anniversary is therefore, above all, a celebration of a band that has retained its curiosity, its joy in playing and its willingness to take musical risks.

AZOLIA

«Begegnung mit Rilke»

Belgian vocalist and composer Sophie Tassignon, German-American alto saxophonist, clarinetist, vocalist, and composer Susanne Folk, German bass clarinetist and soprano saxophonist Lothar Ohlmeier, and Swiss double bassist Andreas Waelti draw on a wealth of experience and a shared musical language that moves beyond familiar jazz conventions. Together they form the international quartet AZOLIA. AZOLIA is known for its thoughtful arrangements, transparent textures, unmistakable sonic identity, and deep sensitivity to poetry. Without drums, but with ample space for refined musical interaction, the ensemble explores human longing, doubt, and possibility. To mark the 100th anniversary of Rainer Maria Rilke’s death in 2026, AZOLIA presents a new program that delicately weaves selected Rilke poems into chamber-jazz compositions. In their interpretations, Rilke’s language becomes newly audible – fragile, luminous, and full of resonance. Carried by their subtle, airy, and deeply felt music, the concert will surely move, unsettle and offer hope. Moods and the renowned Swiss jazz label UNIT Records join forces with "UNIT live!" to share the diversity of UNIT jazz. We will be showcasing the diversity of UNIT jazz by bringing the latest releases from the UNIT universe to the Moods stage at regular intervals.
