Skinny Bird performs the very finest eco-punk. With their homemade aesthetics made from cardboard boxes, the performance disguised as a concert is truly a recycled, holistic spectacle! Their songs and stories are taken directly from life and invite you to sing along and join in. Their songs rarely last longer than 30 seconds. Debora Gerber and Sarah Büchel stage them skillfully in punk style: if something goes wrong, it&#x27;s part of the program! It looks amateurish, but it is - but with great professionalism.

The Reines&#x27; concert program includes songs from their current album Scissor*hood, performative numbers and typographic projections from their in-house video kitchen. They tailor the world for themselves! Scissors stand for skill and zest for action, for independent, self-determined work and life. Scissors are needed for this, because they are the tools for making things yourself. Scissor*hood means sisterhood with scissors and scissor*hood means doing things together and knowing how.

Album Release «Big Hug»

With Big Hug, the Swiss rap icon BIG ZIS is releasing a collaborative music project. Building on the previous album «B:I:G - Bitte in Gross» (2024), a new, independent but collaborative work was created in close collaboration with over 23 artists from different generations and scenes. Retrospective and visionary, the album combines rap, pop, punk, doom metal and even noise, breaking down any genre boundaries and thus making visible a polyphonic, resistant network of formative Tinfas* of the Swiss music scene. The DIY of BIG ZIS is contrasted with the Do-it-Together (DIT) of the Future. New forms of a resistant but pluralistic language for Swiss music will be tested. With orchestras and icons such as Radon, Les Reines Prochaines, Eto*, Fatima Moumouni, Ester Poly, Jessica Jurassica (and many more), the Moods stage will be stormed. It&#x27;s Takeover Time, It&#x27;s BIG HUG Time! Zurich rapper Big Zis has been shaking up the male-dominated Swiss rap game since the late 90s with her clever lyrics, funny punchlines and provocative attitude. She has recorded several albums, made an award-winning music video, performed on pretty much every Swiss stage from antifademo to high culture institutions and won the 2020 Swiss Music Prize and the 2021 Zurich Art Prize. Musically, she combines hip-hop with jazz, punk and improvisation in an eloquent yet danceable rebellion against long-outdated social norms and the patriarchal order, delivering an urgent, clever, humorous and provocative work that is unique in the Swiss music landscape.

She spent the 90s in Liverpool and Berlin, in basements, backyards and on rooftops. Crossfade. And ended up in the Alps in the noughties. That&#x27;s how you have to imagine it musically. Or subcultural; and queer. “Phew, it&#x27;s all mixed up, but I think you&#x27;ll like it!”

Since 2010, Scarlett has been bringing voices to life that are rarely heard in the party business for power-structural reasons - predominantly the voices of women, queers and trans people who play beyond the hegemonic soundtrack. Although she is at home in a wide variety of sonorous milieus, she is primarily guided by the versatile forms of expression of rap. Rap becomes less a genre than a resonating entanglement that connects voices and creates empowering alliances. Scarlett sees herself as a mediating curator of DJ sets, who prefers to perform in places where music is not only perceived, but also experienced as political and poetic material. Her work oscillates between archive, stage and experimental arrangement - in which marginalized perspectives not only become audible, but claim space.

Chip Wickham is a crossover artist between club culture and jazz, influenced by early collaborations with The Pharcyde, Nightmares on Wax and Matthew Halsall. His music thrives on emotional clarity, playful openness and stylistic diversity - carried by flute, saxophone and a top-class ensemble from the British jazz scene. At Moods, Wickham presents his new album The Eternal Now (2025, Gondwana Records), a homage to the creative moment beyond time - a journey into new sonic spaces with borrowings from Lonnie Liston Smith or David Axelrod. Co-produced by Matthew Halsall, it is Wickham&#x27;s most experimental work to date - an album that impresses with its playfulness, emotional depth and musical breadth.

Espuma Antigua — the “ancient foam” — rises from the depths of the sea, bringing old music back to the shores of the present, carried by wind and salt to the ears of today. The quartet, led by Geneva-based musician Flora Ageron, aims to create a dialogue between past and present — blending them into an electronic yet gentle cocktail. Their first album, Spleen Baroque, released in October 2021, was dedicated to forgotten women composers of the 17th century. Their new album, Continuo, is a tribute to the Earth and to traditional culture — to repetitive, enchanting melodies that unfold like endless stories told on summer nights under a starlit sky. Espuma Antigua delves into the Baroque repertoire, uncovering hidden treasures and bringing them to life in unexpected places. The group has performed at the Cully Jazz Festival, La Cité, Lavaux Classic, Jazz au Peuple, and at the Alhambra in Geneva as part of the Festival de la Bâtie.

Sara El Hachimi Quintet

Sara El Hachimi’s music combines elements of jazz and singer-songwriter traditions and is characterized by a spirit of experimentation. Inspired by artists such as Samora Pinderhughes, Saya Gray, Esperanza Spalding, and Wayne Shorter, her work centers on expression, honesty, and reflection. The pieces process emotions and experiences through music and lyrics. With floating melodies, pulsating rhythms, and an understated groundedness, the quintet creates a warm, intimate sound that touches the listener and leaves room for discovery. The ensemble — consisting of vocals, alto and tenor saxophone, piano, synthesizer, bass, and drums — offers an authentic, poetic soundscape that seeks to heal and connect. Sara El Hachimi recognizes in music the power of communication — one that supports both ourselves and one another. Her compositions are philosophical, inviting, and never didactic, which lends them their particular authenticity. The quintet invites listeners to be present in the moment — human, aware, and close. Her music is an expression of genuineness and emotional depth that moves the audience and inspires reflection.

Enigmatic guitarist Marc Ribot has released 6 very diverse solo guitar albums, including John Zorn’s Book of Heads, Plays the Works of Frantz Casseus, Saints, Don’t Blame Me, Exercises in Futility and 2010&#x27;s. Silent Movies on Pi Recordings has been described as a &quot;down-in-mouth-near master piece&quot; by the Village Voice and has landed on several Best of 2010 lists including the LA Times and critical praise across the board. His live solo performances are unpredictable events which may draw on all of these or none, creating a sonic matrix of memory, free improvisation, zeitgeist, extra-terrestrial radio signals - always leaving the listener on the edge of their seats.

The name says it all: Dub Spencer &amp; Trance Hill catapult hand-played dub into galactic spheres. The four musicians chase basses through delay universes, ignite flashes of organ and guitar and unleash a world of sound on stage that hypnotizes and enthrals. Ever since their legendary session with the Godfather of Dub, Lee Scratch Perry, they have stood for uncompromising Dub-Sound - driving, futuristic and with a live energy that is second to none. Over 400 concerts from Portugal to Estonia have cemented their reputation as one of the best dub live bands in Europe. Drummer Julian Dillier delivers beats with the precision of a Swiss chronometer, while bassist Masi Stalder lays down vibrating low-pressure waves. Keyboard and effects virtuoso Philipp Greter screws echo spirals into the room that knot every brain, and Michael Bucher fires guitar riffs over the crowd like laser beams. At the controls, sound alchemist Umberto Echo condenses the action into a 360° mix that hits from all directions. Their remixes? A fusion of playfulness and acoustic care - refined by collaborations with British electro icons Gaudi, Tim Bran (London Grammar) and Youth (The Orb) or the Swiss duo Yello - an upgrade with depth. Le 7è ciel – Citytunes Zürich

Severin Prothmann, who today spins under the name Le 7è ciel, was a resident at the &quot;Club Aera&quot; (Zurich) as well as at the &quot;Different Bar&quot; (Bern) from 1991 on. His bookings led him from there over a multitude of locations in Lausanne, Neuchâtel, Lucerne, Basel, Bern and Zurich to Berlin. Since 1993 he produces electronic music under the label Zoul Guru Rec. and together with his wife Maria he is organizer and promoter of Citytunes in Zurich since 2012. He initially found his love for music through a classical education on clarinet, bass clarinet as well as saxophone and continued as a DJ from the age of 13. Initially, mainly funk, disco and jazz landed on Sevi&#x27;s turntables before he was among the first in Switzerland to adopt hip hop. His commitment to this culture culminated in the opening of the legendary &quot;Beat Bunker&quot;, Switzerland&#x27;s first permanent rap club in Zurich North. His path as a DJ then led from rap to acid jazz to electronic music.

CV Vision

On his sixth studio album, CV Vision unleashes the beast. On Release the Beast, he strikes the perfect balance between psych rock, Detroit techno, distorted synthesizers, black metal, and library music — and he has found it. The album explores different genres, showcasing the musical spectrum of CV Vision. You can hear it all, from fuzzed-out backbeats and psychedelic progressions to sweet harmonies, raw magnetic noise, and a krautrock twist. Despite its diverse mix of sounds and styles, &quot;Release the Beast&quot; has a common thread running through it. It is also a return to a rougher sound. To achieve this sound, CV Vision reached into his bag of tricks: I dug out my two broken tape recorders and patched them up like Frankenstein. The tape recorder is what holds it all together — there are different styles of music, but the tape recorder brings it all together sonically.

Embryo&#x27;s sound is characterized by odd rhythms, psychedelic sound structures, improvisations in the moment, and hypnotic grooves accompanied by spontaneous poetry. This unique international music collective from Munich has been around since 1969 and has played with Mal Waldron, Okay Temiz, Fela Kuti, Charlie Mariano, and many others. The collective transcends not only genres and borders but also generations. Since 2015, Marja Burchard, the daughter of the band&#x27;s founder, Christian Burchard, has led the group in which she grew up. Since then, Embryo has continued with her, always searching for new sounds, rhythms, and ideas from those who think differently. The spirit of the &#x27;70s, Embryo&#x27;s founding era, still resonates, brought into the present by the current lineup. It&#x27;s as if eternity resonates in their music.

Hing is the pseudonym of a Zurich-based music collector and cultural worker. He is involved in ephemeral projects and is active in the non-commercial cultural association &quot;Zentralwäscherei&quot; in Zurich. He also hosts the show &quot;Domestic Mind Wandering&quot; on Düsseldorf&#x27;s Callshopradio.

Andrea Kirchhofer

Singing violinist Andrea Kirchhofer and violin-playing singer Irina Ungureanu celebrate the premiere of their musical adventure as a duo. Keen to explore new territory and experiment with language, they create a new soundscape with two violins and two voices, Swiss German and English lyrics, and the occasional interjection of electric guitar. With a minimalist setup, the two musicians lead us into a colourful and melancholic sonic universe full of shrill miniatures, pictorial and slightly bizarre lyrics, fragments of text and an untamed variety of violin sounds. The limited range of the violins and voices calls for unusual arrangements, opening doors to rare sound worlds in the process. Irina Ungureanu, who has a background in contemporary and Romanian folk music, has recently started writing her own Swiss German songs for the duo with Anna Trauffer, &quot;Pelz&quot;, and for &quot;Bondar&quot;. Andrea Kirchhofer&#x27;s combination of voice and violin continues a path she explored until 2018 with her quartet/trio Atrium. The two musicians come together through their play with language and their experiences with musical theatre and new folk music. Since 2024, they have been performing together on stage with the Romansh and Romanian songs of the quintet SORAS.

A fearless and versatile talent, harpist Brandee Younger defies genres and labels as a classically-trained musician playing in the avant-garde tradition of her sonically forward predecessors Dorothy Ashby and Alice Coltrane. Younger delivers a consistently fresh take on the ancient instrument as an educator, concert curator, performer and leader of the Brandee Younger Quartet. Most recently, Younger released an album on the Chicago based label International Anthem together with her partner Dezron Douglas, called Force Majeure, followed by her 2021 debut on the legendary Impulse! Label - Somewhere Different. 2023 saw her releasing her second Impulse! album Brand New Life. Jazzbois is a jazz-hiphop fusion trio from Budapest, Hungary. Their debut album &quot;Jazzbois Goes Blunt&quot; had a strong impact on both the jazz and hip-hop scene, creating a unique psychedelic flavoured fusion that shacked the bones of jazz- and beat-lovers alike. Their latest album „Still Blunted“ came after performing at the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival in 2024. The trio then sold out venues around Europe (including the Jazz Cafe London) on their headline tour in the autumn of 2024. Their 2025 agenda included festivals like the Montreal Jazz Festival and Cross the Tracks Festival in London. Their 2025 EU tour, named “Tour of Hope” had them headlining London’s cultic venue, The Village Underground amongst shows all over Europe.

Sammy Bacca is just a simple chill dude from Zurich, whose affinity for good music has been honed since he was a child. When he finally was “old” enough to start collecting records, that’s when it took off - his world became enveloped by music and records. At home, there’s never not a record playing. Lately he also started sharing some gems of his record collection on Instagram - go check it out! Having had some residencies in and around Zurich and still keeping up with the scene there, he’s been behind quite a few DJ booths in the past 20y, while also perfecting his skills as a selector. With that said, his sets go through a variety of genres and gems to tell his story.

Through individual and collective exploration, you will deepen your understanding of singing as a whole-body phenomenon. This workshop takes place in the exhibition space and is open to anyone interested in the voice, including beginners, advanced learners, professional singers, speakers and curious individuals. No preparation is necessary. Isabell Klara and Dalia Donadio are graduates of the Lichtenberg course in applied voice physiology. Habib Koité, Lamine Cissokho, Aly Keïta, Mama Koné

Habib Koité is one of the great stars of world music. With charisma and skill, he brings the rich musical culture of Mali to a wide audience. His guitar style, inspired by the ngoni lute, combines fine playing with rhythmic drumming and characterizes his special sound. His songs tell of everyday life, history and society in Mali - deeply rooted, but open to the world. His new project is called Mandé Sila - an acoustic quartet that celebrates the diversity of West African musical cultures. Habib Koité is accompanied by three virtuoso artists: the balafon master Aly Keïta (Ivory Coast), the kora player Lamine Cissokho (Senegal), who comes from a famous griot family, and his long-time percussionist Mama Koné (Mali). Together they celebrate the Mandé Sila, the musical path of the Manding empire, which unites the languages, cultures and musical diversity of West Africa. Mandé Sila is not just a musical project, but a moment of cultural encounter and harmony between the artists. The repertoire consists of original compositions that come to life through the mastery of traditional instruments and the fusion of different styles - from West African rhythms to oriental and jazzy influences.

A wave of fresh contemporary jazz is set to arrive in the form of the Alex Sipiagin Quartet — a powerhouse unit led by the renowned trumpeter and flugelhorn player whose sound is as bold as it is refined. With over 20 solo albums to his name, he is celebrated for his razor-sharp precision, rich tone, and a style that’s unmistakably his own. After more than three decades in New York, Sipiagin now resides in Italy, continuing to shape the future of modern jazz. After performing as a featured guest with Christoph Grab in 2024 and Victoria Mozalevskaya in 2025, Sipiagin returns with his own quartet, celebrate the latest realease on Criss Cross Jazz, Reverberations. Along with an international grouping of Dave Kikoski, Makar Novikov and Donald Edwards, their fiery style and immpecable technique are sure to guarantee a concert of rich textures, pulsating rhythms and modern jazz brilliance.

Elliot Galvin

The young pianist, Elliot Galvin, accompanied Shabaka Hutchings on his last tour and has collaborated with musicians such as Emma-Jean Thackray and Floating Points. He also has a direct connection to Switzerland through the band Ydivide. He is now performing his latest album, The Ruin, for the first time as a solo artist at Moods. London&#x27;s young creative scene has long been widely recognised as one of the most important trendsetters in contemporary jazz. However, Elliot Galvin represents a more avant-garde branch of that scene. His compositions range from flowing, meandering piano sounds to bleak yet beautiful musical portraits of English landscapes. Elliot Galvin&#x27;s unique piano and synthesiser sounds are complemented by the renowned bassist and singer Ruth Goller, the drummer Sebastian Rochford (of Polar Bear and a Patti Smith collaborator) and the violinist Mandhira de Saram.

Roberto Fonseca and Vincent Segal have both distinguished themselves for years through their ability to transcend genres. Their careers have been a journey through different musical styles, ranging from contemporary music to electro, jazz and world music. Vincent Ségal, for his part, plays with artists from all walks of life, including Cesaria Evora, Vanessa Paradis, Dick Annegarn, Ballaké Cissoko, Matthieu Chedid and Glenn Ferris, among others, with disconcerting ease. Both have been nominated for prestigious awards such as the Victoires de la Musique and the Grammy Awards. The sensual, swaying dances of La Gran Diversion – Roberto&#x27;s latest project – now invite us to engage in a more intimate dialogue: &quot;This project began with the desire to tell stories and recount experiences. The classical influence is present and most of the themes were worked out in advance, but once in the studio, we let ourselves improvise to capture the moment. For the past four years, the New Regency Orchestra has been causing a sensation with its powerful twelve-piece horn section and well-rehearsed five-piece rhythm section. The orchestra&#x27;s dancers breathe new energy and arrangements into the heyday of Latin jazz and salsa. The orchestra is the brainchild of artistic director Lex Blondin, who is the man behind the Total Refreshment Centre and the co-founder of the Church of Sound. His longstanding passion for jazz led him to discover the explosive Afro-Cuban rhythms that were popular in 1940s New York thanks to Mario Bauzá, the godfather of Afro-Cuban jazz. This lively music was made for dancing and found a home at the New York Palladium, a place that was crucial to the development of the scene because it was a defining place of freedom and expression. The 18-piece Afro-Cuban jazz big band is one of London&#x27;s most exciting ensembles. It brings the New York of the 1950s to life, featuring the contemporary power and energy of some of London&#x27;s best Latin and jazz musicians. The NRO&#x27;s repertoire reinterprets some of the best pieces from this golden era. They perform pieces by René Hernández and Tito Puente from the early 1950s and salsa by Rafael Labastida and Orlando Marín from the 1970s with fresh London flair.

Samuel Rohrer Solo

As an improvisatory sound pilot, Samuel Rohrer is able to elegantly navigate beats and anti-beats and expands the world of rhythmic functions with his artistic cross-style overall concept to include striking emotional components. Originally coming from acoustic improvised music and since a few years diving into the world of electronic music, he is one of the few defining a world by his own while balancing in between these two. During his 25-year career, the experimental drummer has collaborated with the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Laurie Anderson and Oren Ambarchi, and only now finds himself in the driving seat with his debut record, MUSIC FOR LOVERS. Naturally featuring a wide range of percussive instruments, alongside synths, keyboards and sound effects, the album is a playful mix of jazz ambience and electronics, which pays homage to the minimal techno scene that helped forge Berlin’s club community. Deep, reflective, and equally mesmerising, Rohrer’s debut shares some similarities with Nils Frahm’s work but is still unique. Roher’s debut is a jazz jamboree of moods, feelings and textures made for (music) lovers by a man who loves music – a specatacle and true blessing alike.

Louis Matute grew up in Geneva. However, the Latin American touch hinted at in his name has accompanied him throughout his life. His travels have taken him to Spain, Cuba, Costa Rica, Honduras and most recently to Brazil, where he completed &quot;Dolce Vita&quot; with the voices of Joyce Moreno and Dora Morelenbaum. The new tracks on the new album shine thanks to Nathan Vandenbulcke&#x27;s outstanding drumming, Zacharie Ksyk&#x27;s energetic trumpet solos and Léon Phal&#x27;s sensual tenor saxophone solos, supported by double bassist Virgile Rosselet and the enormous versatility of pianist Andrew Audiger. At the same time, one recognises Louis Matute&#x27;s sensitive signature, the touching melodies, the special sound of the trumpet and tenor saxophone, and the guitarist, whose rare solos are all the more effective. Louis Matute is more than just a musician – he is a curious, committed personality whose style is recognisable after just a few bars. Louis Matute and his large ensemble open doors and windows, travel, tell stories, find healing in humanity and resilience – and use this to create music that touches the personal and appeals to the universal. And perhaps we can take &quot;Dolce Vita&quot; quite literally after all?

Musician and spoken word poet Alabaster DePlume knows how to use words as skillfully as the dreamy melodies of his saxophone. On his latest album, “A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole” (2025), the Mancunian reflects on healing, dignity, and struggle. He remains true to his unmistakable sound of Ethio-jazz and ghostly melodies, with his vibrato-laced saxophone winding its way around his philosophical lyrics. Fearlessly absurd and with genuine, openly expressed emotions. That&#x27;s how the music sounds on his album, but what you hear live is something you only find out on the evening itself: anyone who has already experienced Alabaster DePlume at Moods in 2022 knows about his particularly spontaneous live shows and how the concert hall fills with humanity, sensitivity, and love in an instant.

He also hosts a popular YouTubechannel dedicated to all things keys which has over 140,000 subscribers. Marta Pereira da Costa

Marta Pereira da Costa is an instrumentalist, composer, and bandleader who masterfully plays the Portuguese guitar. She broke tradition in a field historically dominated by men, becoming the first woman to play the Portuguese guitar professionally in Fado. In 2014, she received the Instrumentalist Award from the Amália Rodrigues Foundation, and in 2016, she released her self-titled debut album with Warner Music Portugal, featuring renowned artists such as Rui Veloso, Dulce Pontes, Camané, Richard Bona, and Tara Tiba. Since then, she has performed on prestigious stages including the Kennedy Center and the Lincoln Center, and her Tiny Desk NPR (2023) performance has surpassed one million views. More recently, she was honored with the Voz do Operário Composition Award (2024) and the Best Instrumental Award at the IPMA Awards (2025). Throughout her career, Marta has taken her music across five continents, performing in countries such as Australia, Brazil, the United States, China, India, Indonesia, Spain, France among many others—establishing herself as one of the leading ambassadors of Portuguese sound worldwide. Her current project transcends borders, presenting the Portuguese guitar as a voice that travels through the traditional sounds of Fado and Portuguese music while also exploring new musical landscapes such as jazz, Cape Verdean morna, Brazilian choro, and world music. Performing in trio format, Marta will be joined by João José Pita Junior on seven-string guitar and Carlos Miguel Antunes on percussion. Together, they will perform pieces from her new album Sem Palavras, such as Verdes Anos, Summertime, Dia de Feira as well as from her debut album (Terra, Encontro, and Fado Lopes). Album Release

The creative collective SOYUZ from Minsk, Belarus consists of multi-instrumentalists Alex Chumak and Mikita Arlou. Since 2022, when they moved to Warsaw, Poland, drummer Albert Karch and guitarist Igor Wiśniewski have also joined the collective. The great thing about SOYUZ is that they are two bands in one. In the studio, Chumak acts as composer, arranger, and artistic director, creating carefully crafted recordings that blend jazz, folk, global pop traditions, and lush orchestration. On stage, however, SOYUZ becomes a live quartet. Improvisation and the unique voice of each member reshape the songs, often surprising the audience and the band itself. At Moods, SOYUZ will present their latest album, KROK (English: Step), which is set to release in October 2025 on Mr. Bongo. It is the collective&#x27;s first album composed almost entirely in Belarusian, weaving their Eastern European roots with jazz, folk, and global influences.

With &quot;Living Being IV: Time Reflections&quot;, Vincent Peirani and his quintet present a work deeply rooted in musical reflection and exploration of time. The new project, featuring Émile Parisien, Tony Paeleman, Yoann Serra and Julien Herné, invites listeners on a sonic journey in which every note is imbued with the complexity and nuances of the rhythm of life. Created in the unique context of the first months of the Covid pandemic, this album is the result of a moment of forced pause for Vincent Peirani, a break in his daily routine that led him to meditate on how time shapes our lives and our perception of the world. &quot;Time Réflections&quot; is thus a mosaic in which the contemporary pulse and the echoes of traditional dances intersect, with a strong nod to baroque music, which finds an unexpected and poetic place here.

Zurich Jazz Orchestra feat. Karin Meier

Karin Meier returns to continue her many years of great collaboration with the Zurich Jazz Orchestra. In addition to Karin&#x27;s own compositions, the program will also include new interpretations of jazz standards and pop classics, all arranged for the ZJO by Ed Partyka. The orchestra will perform with an expanded line-up, including French horn, tuba and a whole range of woodwind instruments to give the music additional textures and timbres. The orchestra will also play instrumental music by Ed Partyka, including the continuation and further development of the composition written for the orchestra&#x27;s 30th anniversary. The first movement of the work, There Will Be Another You, was premiered on October 2, and the piece will continue to evolve and grow until May 2026. As always, both the instrumental and vocal arrangements will be performed by the Zurich Jazz Orchestra&#x27;s outstanding soloists.

20 Years of Palko! and still dirty

Somewhere between Kharkiv and Porto, Malmö and Napoli, in a filthy rehearsal room with lots of booze and tears, a couple of guys who had just broken up a band receive a visit from Palko! Palko! was a traveler, a vision that inspired the founding members from then on. Palko! loved the music passed down by word of mouth and the freedom and melancholy of the Cossacks. The loud and pounding beat was his best friend and constantly drove him to dance. The band mixed the substance of this genius with rock and punk, and over the years this unique mix grew into over 100 songs. There is probably no human constitution that is not experienced at and during a Palko!Muski concert: glasses are thrown against the wall, bodily fluids are exchanged; ecstasy and catharsis are lived out. Knocked-out teeth, tears of joy, euphoria to anger, despair and hope, a rush of emotions in a frenzy. Couples come together and separate, children are conceived and born.

Tropikaos - Carnaval Adalu invites you on a journey through the sounds, sights and culture of Brazilian carnival, where people revel in colorful, harmonious chaos at the world&#x27;s biggest street parties. The city of Zurich loves Brazilian rhythms, which is why we have brought together percussion groups to perform at the same tempo. Led by the talented musician Juninho Ibituruna, these groups will open our carnival party in the foyer of the Schiffbau. Similar to a traditional “Bloco de Rua,” we are bringing together the groups Borumbaia, Zurich School of Samba, and Pandeiro LX.

Coletivo Gira

Women unite their voices, their instruments and their love of samba in a performance that revives the great samba classics, but also presents the samba of the new generation, always highlighting the work of other women, whether as composers or performers. The focus of the concert is on samba and other Afro-Brazilian rhythms from the Samba de Terreiro. The sound of the hand drums (ilú and conga) is present in most of the arrangements, giving them an original sound identity without forgetting the roots. The group is made up of multi-instrumentalists from different parts of Brazil and the world, who bring their idiosyncrasies and influences, resulting in a unique performance full of power but also lightness, without neglecting the activism and resistance of women who are still fighting for greater representation in samba.

Meshell Ndegeocello

Meshell Ndegeocello has survived the best and worst of what a career in music has to offer. She eschewed genre for originality, celebrity for longevity, and musical trends for musical truths. Fans have come to expect the unexpected and follow her on sojourns into soul, R&amp;B, jazz, hip-hop, rock, all bound by the search for love, justice, respect, and resolution. Those sonic investigations have defied and redefined the expectations for women and queer artists for over 30 years and she remains one of few persons who write the music, sing the songs, and lead the band. A bass player above all else, Meshell brings her warm, fat, and melodic groove to everything she does and is often seen as the pioneer of the so-called Neo Soul movement alongside The Soulquarians or Maxwell. Following her acclaimed Blue Note debut in 2023 with &quot;The Omnichord Real Book&quot;, Meshell returns with &quot;No More Water: The Gospel of James Baldwin&quot;, released in Summer 2024.

Decisions must be made within a network of feedback loops whose course is only partially predictable, acting under conditions of limited control. Zugzwang is an electroacoustic ensemble composition by Tomas Korber, created as part of the City of Zurich&#x27;s 2025 Work Year programme. The ensemble combines acoustic instruments with a network of microphones, software, and feedback loops. The result is music with extreme registers and strong dynamic contrasts, characterised by an archaic, raw sound. The repetitive and process-oriented nature of the music causes listeners and musicians to enter a trance-like state in which time seems to stretch infinitely. Thus, Zugzwang examines the interplay between individual decision-making, collective processes, and the momentum of an unstable system. For twenty years, the Swiss-Georgian festival Close Encounters has promoted encounters and collaborations, providing spaces for experimentation and reflection. It facilitates intensive exchange between participating musicians, transcending geographical distances, scenes and styles. In both Switzerland and Georgia, Close Encounters continues to break down institutional, stylistic and scene-related boundaries, connecting a diverse range of audiences.

An Experimental Electroacoustic Opera

Homo Freq: An Experimental Electroacoustic Opera is more than just a mini opera. It is a platform for experimentation, a space in which opera, the old and immovable monster, is translated and reimagined. Created in collaboration with Nasi Chavchavadze and Lisa Kereselidze, who like Tiko have their roots in classical music, the project is the brainchild of Georgian musician Tiko Gogoberidze. In Homo Freq, their background meets experimental practice, resulting in an experimental electroacoustic opera. The means employed range from live electronics and classical singing to free improvisation and experimental approaches, with a constantly changing libretto depending on the performers, their voices, and their perspectives. This evening, the young Zurich-based composer and musician Felix Friedrich will be joining them. Tiko Gogoberidze belongs to the next generation of the Georgian electronic and club scene. Her music ranges from technoid club music and noisy experimental projects to pop and music theatre. Her work is characterised by her openness in moving between different musical fields while always maintaining her own unique style. Not only is Tiko Gogoberidze an accomplished electronic musician, she is also a classically trained singer.

Fred Wesley wrote funk history alongside James Brown and George Clinton, serving as one of the genre&#x27;s architects. Now, he is starting a new chapter that connects him with his jazz roots and an exciting future: Generations. Generations is a versatile trio featuring Wesley on trombone, Leonardo Corradi on organ, and Tony Match on drums. The three musicians originally came together to pay tribute to legendary organist Jimmy Smith&#x27;s soulful jazz — and immediately found a musical chemistry that has kept them performing together to this day. However, the trio doesn&#x27;t limit itself to jazz. They groove through rap, soul, and funk together, creating a sound that is as versatile as it is rousing. Together, they elevate their groove and bring the rhythm to life.

Laura & Luzius Schuler: Mandà in Lunga

It is music of crystalline beauty, equally natural spectacle and document of a most intimate musical interaction. In the autumn and winter of 2023, Laura and Luzius Schuler travel to Val Poschiavo to listen to alpine tales. Here, siblings Laura and Luzius are confronted with the rugged mountain world and a landscape in a state of flux. In the face of this scenery, voice and instruments become mist and shadow. They pulse like the rock that surrounds them. The organ is no longer a monolith, but flexible, malleable, capable of singing, while the bow plays the wind, the light, the water. This music resembles the brushstroke of the sun, which brings the stone to life, painting it through the clouds. Recorded in the reformed church of Poschiavo, with Luzius on the church organ and Laura on violin and vocals, their album &quot;Mandà in Lunga&quot; (Ronin Rhythm Records, 2025) was recorded over in just two sessions. As if in a state of suspension we find improvised confrontations with the surrounding environment and with nature, somewhere between acoustic ambient and experimental sound art. The Kalem ensemble gives traditional Balkan music a fresh, modern sound. It consists of the two musicians Stefan Ilić (vocals/violin) and Dušan Popović Lipovac (guitar). Their joint style is the result of a finely tuned fusion of their musical influences: Dušan brings in Mediterranean and classical timbres, while Stefan is deeply rooted in traditional folk music with his authentic singing and playing style. Their third studio album Polako was recently released, which contains newly arranged traditional songs as well as four of their own compositions.

After the quiet, seated concert, you can round off the evening at the bar. Global beats are served far beyond the borders of the Balkans. With the legendary concert and party series Kultur Shock, Mario Peric is one of the pioneers of the Balkan scene as an organizer, DJ and producer. He has been thrilling audiences for many years with his varied, explosive and crazy sounds. His musical spectrum cannot be pinned down to one direction. The main thing is that it fits!

For the currents festival, Marie Krüttli presents new music as a ritual of becoming. The lyrics evoke feminine power through ancient goddesses — Amaterasu, Isis, Athena — luminous, wise, maternal, brave and fiercely protective figures of transformation. These presences mirror a journey of self-growth and love, deeply rooted in nature and its cycles. Musically, the work draws on the forward-looking sensuality and groove of Bilal’s recent creations and on Baudelaire’s poetry as set to music by Debussy, alongside the refined colors of Poulenc and Ibert. The music unfolds as an intimate, expansive soundscape where myth, care, and strength resonate.

ANCESTRAL ROOTS invites people to a celebration that honors heritage and culture, living in and through the diaspora, and third culture identities through sound, storytelling or chanting, making the invitation wide, vibrant and inclusive. Holland Andrews (they/them) and yuniya edi kwon (she/her) are composer-improvisers, vocalists, and interdisciplinary performance makers based in Brooklyn, New York. Their collaborative practice is an emergent and embodied extension of their lives as ritualists, spiritual practitioners, and partners. Holland, a multi-instrumentalist and producer, arranges music for voice, clarinet, and electronics, harnessing the power of these instruments to address themes of vulnerability, catharsis, and healing. yuniya, in her work, connects sound, movement, and ceremony to explore transformation, transgression, and mythology’s ability to both obscure and reveal. Their co-created opera-in-progress &quot;How does it feel to look at nothing&quot; is a transdisciplinary space of convergence for their shared life, queer-trans family, and beloved creative lineages, grounded in the foundational questions that connect and inspire them. Curator: Kay Zhang (she/they) is a sonic artist whose work explores in-betweenness through sound, performance, curation, and research. Rooted in experimentation and learning-by-doing, their practice bridges transdisciplinary art, queer feminist theory, and sound ecologies. Kay is a founding member of Kollektiv international Totem (KIT), River Oracle, and ARKA, and is part of the curatorial team at Les Complices* in Zurich. Their work fosters collective listening, care practices, and intercultural dialogue through sound performance and curatorial experiences.

The Danish instrumental trio Antistatic creates complex soundscapes with just two guitars and drums. Their instruments intertwine effortlessly, combining percussive guitar lines and intricate polyrhythms to create hypnotic grooves that lie somewhere between post-punk and math rock. Their debut album, Relics, was released in 2024 on the renowned US label Cuneiform Records and received rave reviews worldwide. This year, the band will follow up with a new release. Antistatic is an experience, especially live. They build dynamics between controlled precision and cathartic outbursts. With their repetitive, driving rhythms, they put you in a trance, only to create new tension time and again with surprising twists.

Sc'ööf

Sc&#x27;ööf are tipped to be the next big thing in Europe. The experimental band has already won the Zenith Award from the European Jazz Network, among other accolades, and has developed its own radical sound that is refreshingly adventurous and provocative. With their fascination for strange grooves and exuberant live energy, Sc&#x27;ööf are an exciting surprise. The Swiss-based quartet consists of drums, a laptop, an electric guitar and two saxophones with electronics and sound design. They create acoustic glitch music using advanced instrumental techniques, weaving atonal melodies into dense, complex rhythms and blending a variety of musical ideas into a single piece. Their sound uniquely combines elements of jazz, rock, metal, punk and experimental music. Their technically impressive performances are based on strong individual musicality and years of collaboration. Thanks to their long, repetitive, highly rhythmic structures, their performances are hypnotic, and thanks to their physical energy, they are intense.

JMO are not only the initials of the three musicians, but also the three main influences in their music: Jazz - Mandinka - Orient. To mark their 10th anniversary, Jan Galega Brönnimann, Moussa Cissokho and Omri Hason are presenting their third CD Nia Yelle. In Mandinka, a West African language, this means: Open Your Eyes. The music of JMO revives the art of storytelling. The sparkling clear sound of the kora meets the sonorous, smoky tones of the bass clarinet and is supported by Omri Hason&#x27;s various percussion instruments. The interplay between Moussa Cissokho, Jan Galega Brönnimann and Omri Hason captivates with beautiful melodies and rhythmic elegance - in their unforgettable live concerts they oscillate between magically transfigured moments and rhythmically explosive flights of fancy. The result is authentic and contemporary chamber music that crosses borders between traditional and modern sounds from Africa, Europe and the Orient. The repertoire is written by all three musicians and shows their different influences. The clash of the three cultures, the choice of instruments and the rich pool of ideas, melodies and rhythms make the music an unforgettable adventure.
