Founded in Zurich in the late 1990s, The Hillbilly Moon Explosion is a band that blends rock ’n’ roll with influences from blues, swing, 1960s beat, country, surf and chanson to create a distinctive sound. Thanks to this stylistic diversity, the group has made a name for itself far beyond the rockabilly scene.

Although various media outlets have hailed them as one of Switzerland’s finest rockabilly bands, the group is still considered an insider's tip. This is partly because they consistently refuse to be pigeonholed into any particular style. Rather than limiting themselves to classic rockabilly patterns, the band incorporates the diverse musical tastes of its members into their sound.

This openness is also evident in their latest album, "Back In Time", which was released in 2024 on Cleopatra Records. Across eleven original compositions and a reggae-inspired rendition of Toussaint McCall’s classic "Nothing Takes the Place of You", founding members Oliver Baroni and Emanuela Hutter showcase their talents as songwriters. In doing so, the band retains the infectious energy and dynamism that has secured them a loyal fanbase for years.
