Mira Lu Kovacs is the voice of the avant-garde supergroup 5K HD, bandleader, grunge-pop guitarist, sound corporate designer of the Belvedere Museum in Vienna and theater musician, and in this master class she talks about working as a musician in various formations, about songwriting and how it adapts to ever-changing circumstances. The discussion will then develop according to the composition of the participants. The masterclass took place as part of the ZKB Jazz Prize.

Kyoto Jazz Massive was founded over 30 years ago by the brothers Shūya and Yoshihiro Okino and discovered by Gilles Peterson. Since then, they have been storming jazz hearts worldwide with their spiritual crossover ventures and electronic influences. In an exclusive masterclass, we meet founding member and creative director Shūya in an interview with London-based music journalist Dom Servini. The masterclass will be held in English. Masterclass mit WITCH (We Intend To Cause Havoc)

Open to musicians and music lovers. Duration: 2h Language: English Admission: Free WITCH (We Intend To Cause Havoc) were Zambia&#x27;s biggest rock band in the 1970s and were at the forefront of a new genre called Zamrock. They fused influences ranging from the Rolling Stones to Black Sabbath to James Brown, and blended them with traditional African rhythms and songs. At the height of their popularity, the band often needed police to keep fans at bay while their lead singer Jagari - whose name is an Africanization of Mick Jagger&#x27;s name - roiled the crowd. As Zambia&#x27;s economy stagnated and the country suffered from the AIDS crisis, WITCH disbanded. Jagari, now the only surviving member of the original lineup, retreated to a life of quasi-anonymity as a university music professor before being wrongfully arrested. Now in his 60s, he spends his time mining gems. The Mastercalss will be held by Jagari Chanda, Patrick Mwondela and Jacco Gardner and will cover the history and working methods of Zamrock from its beginnings to the present day.

One of Brazil&#x27;s most influential and longest running bands, Azymuth has created an entirely new sound: Jazz-funk and samba fused into an infectious blend known as “Samba Doido”. They have played with just about everyone throughout Brazil’s golden era of MPB, jazz, soul and funk (including Jorge Ben, Milton Nascimento, Tim Maia, Elis Regina and Marcos Valle, to name just a few). In addition to their influence on jazz and funk, Azymuth&#x27;s worldwide contribution to electronic music and hip-hop is undeniable. They have collaborated with greats such as 4hero, Madlib and Jazzanova and can be heard in various remixes. Fifty years after their formation, Azymuth have released over thirty albums and are still busy writing, recording and playing. And with the same energy as at the beginning of their career. Even after the unexpected death of drummer and founding member Ivan Mamão Conti in the spring of 2023, there are no signs of fatigue. With Renato Massa, one of Brazil&#x27;s most renowned drummers, a more than worthy replacement has been built to honor Mamão&#x27;s memory and legacy and keep the spirit of Azymuth alive. This masterclass is an opportunity for both musicians and music enthusiasts to ask the Jazz Funk legends any questions they&#x27;ve always wanted to ask. This Masterclass was originally announced for October 13, 2023. Ida Nielsen&#x27;s life was turned upside down when she joined music legend Prince in 2010 and started touring with The New Power Generation and the 4-piece powerhouse rock band 3rdeyegirl. But it wouldn&#x27;t do justice to Ida Nielsen&#x27;s musicality to reduce it only to this time, because she has not only been playing in many different formations for years, but is also on the road with her own project. On her sixth solo album, More Sauce, Please! the songwriter and bandleader visibly influenced by her musical background combines funky beats, slap-bass virtuosity, lively rap and pop earworms. What fascinates the bass virtuoso about funk? How did she get her own signature instrument, a 4-string Sandberg California electric bass? This masterclass gives musicians and music enthusiasts alike the opportunity to ask Ida Nielsen all the questions that are burning on the tip of their tongue. The conversation will then evolve from the composition of the participants. No registration required.

Silvan Strauss is an award-winning jazz drummer and producer. He has attracted a lot of attention on social media due to his creative approach to music and his skills on the drums. In his masterclass he gives insights into his work. The topics will be beats, loops and phrasing but also how he implements produced beats live and vice versa. There will be the opportunity to ask him questions and learn about the process of creating his album &quot;FACING&quot;.

In this interactive session, Santi and Tuğçe will explore the journey of a song from its inception to its release, and share their insights on how to craft melodies, write lyrics, build a groove, create a unique sound palette, and how to find your own way in the complex maze of the music industry.
