His musical influences range from classical and jazz to Arabic-Andalusian music. After touring with bassist Avishai Cohen and releasing his debut album &quot;It&#x27;s About Time!&quot; (naïve-believe, 2018), he comes to Moods with the trio Assala: a hypnotic journey through Arabic-Andalusian sound worlds. He is accompanied by the congenial Karim Ziad on drums and Mehdi Nassouli on gimbri.

A young Jazz talent from Israel: Guy Mintus is only in his mid-twenties but has already played with greats such as Trilok Gurtu, Jon Hendricks and Arturo O’Farrill, won the «ASCAP’s Young Jazz Composer Award» and was awarded the public’s prize in the Montreux Jazz Festival’s “solo piano” competition category. His trio’s debut album, «A Home in Between», was recommended as a listening tip by Downbeat magazine. His music demonstrates a very individual style: he blends elements of Stride-Piano, Osmanian Makams, and Indian rhythms with counterpoint à la Bach, Spanish Flamenco and Jewish melodies. Wonderful dialogues between two outstanding instrumentalists and improvisers: in the Downtown New York scene, the world-known clarinetist Don Byron constantly tried out new mix ratios between Jazz-Tradition, Classical and Klezmer. Together with the Cuban pianist Aruán Ortiz, whose solo album «Cub(an)isme» received a rare five-star review from the American Jazz magazine «Downbeat», they form a top-class duo. The program features own compositions and standards, Afro-Cuban Swing, Modern Jazz and awareness of tradition. In order to illustrate these ideas, the materials used are often very rough, yet not without depth. Through the appropriation of the compositional ideas, the musicians attempt time and again to newly compose the pieces, both structurally and tonally. Pianist Colin Vallon joins forces with two of Europe’s most prominent and original musicians: Matthieu Michel, whose unmistakable sound on the trumpet could by itself be the definition of beauty, and drums wizard Jorge Rossy, one of the most influential musicians today. The repertoire oscillates between free improvisation, own compositions, and older gems by Don Cherry, Thelonious Monk and Gabriel Fauré, amongst others.

Omer Klein is a fascinating pianist. His playing moves between apparently disparate worlds, diverse structures and dynamics. Omer Klein was born in Israel in 1982, he absolved his jazz musical education in the USA. He studied in Boston under Danilo Perez and later under Fred Hersch and in the Noughties became a prominent musician on the New York jazz scene. Thus far Omer Klein has recorded seven albums, amongst them also «Rockets On The Balcony», which appeared on John Zorn’s Tzadik label. Alfredo Rodriguez & Pedrito Martinez

A summit meeting of two Cuban musical greats: both nominated for a Grammy, the musicians Alfredo Rodríguez and Pedrito Martinez discovered their passion for playing together as a duo in 2012 during the recording of Alfredo’s album, «The Invasion Parade». Now the two Cubans present their first duo album, «Duologue» (2019). Singer and percussionist Martinez, whose music school was the street, is a master of Afro-Cuban folk music and the Batá drum, which he ably demonstrated in collaboration with Sting, Paul Simon and Wynton Marsalis, amongst others. In contrast to Martinez, Rodríguez studied at the Havana Music School, where his work was influenced by Bach, Strawinsky and Cuban Jazz. He is one of the most impressive exponents of New Cuban Jazz, totally following in the tracks of pioneers such as Gonzalo Rubalcaba, and is the Artistic Director of the Global Gumbo Project, which was founded by Quincy Jones. During the concert, the audience will be witness to the dialogue – or should we say «Duolouge» - of this extraordinary duo. Supported by SüdKulturFonds

The career progress of the female Cuban pianist Marialy Pacheco is impressive, starting with her debut album which she produced with Roberto Fonseca and in 2012 she was the first ever woman to be honoured with a Montreux Jazz Festival Award. And rightly so! With a Caribbean temperament, and originally trained to play Classical piano, she coaxes from the piano melodies full of fire, melancholy and tenderness. The perfect counterpart to the female percussionist, who is in demand worldwide to accompany the likes of Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Sting. Since 2017 the duo has been on tour with the program «Marocuba»: a unique blend of traditional Cuban music and Afro-Moroccan rhythms, coupled with contemporary Jazz and elements of Pop. Gauthier Toux 6tet

Gauthier Toux, who is from France but lives in Lausanne, is at 25 one of Europe&#x27;s up-and-coming piano talents. Inspired both by new currents in Jazz and other genres such as Hip-Hop and Pop, the pianist creates his very own sound. Toux has already impressed the Moods audience on several occasions, for the new album „The Colours You See“ (2018) he has expanded the trio to become a sextet.

Their explosive blend of Jazz, R&amp;B, Rock and Funk sounds captivating, provocative and passionate. The band’s key to success? Their live shows! Omer Klein Trio «Sleepwalkers»

Omer Klein is one of the terrific jazz musicians that Israel produces at regular intervals. His compositions lack for nothing in terms of virtuosity or diversity; lyrical key melodies transform seamlessly into complex rhythmical passages. The interplay with Haggai Cohen-Milo on bass and Amir Bresler on drums leads to a dynamic groove which audibly demonstrates that the three are close freinds and a well-rehearsed trio. Klein&#x27;s seventh album «Sleepwalkers» (2017) is not only musically, but also content-wise bang up to date: the tracks deal with the community of today, with the inhabitants of big cities that bumble through life like sleepwalkers with Smartphone in hand.

Iiro Rantala & Ulf Wakenius

These two have found themselves! Both Scandinavian, both superb musicians of international repute. The first one in the team is the Finnish pianist Iiro Rantala, who has made a name for himself with his energetic and multi-faceted piano-playing, sometimes self-ironic, now and again sensitive. His duo partner, Ulf Wakenius, guitarist from Sweden and at the time a member of the Oscar Peterson Quartet, is known for his flawless technique and playing finesse. Here we have two masters of their instrument that are tough to top in terms of virtuosity, musical wit and enjoying the groove.

Marc Méan's «Taïga»

Marc Méan is active in various line-ups as pianist, keyboarder and composer. «Taïga», his new project with Matthieu Michel on the flügelhorn, Valentin Liechti on drums and bassist Fabien Iannone blends electronic with acoustic. In Méan&#x27;s words: «,Taïga&#x27;, that is the noise of the world, the illuminated mist of a lost landscape, tormented poesie. ,Taïga&#x27; sounds like the damped echo of a huge boreal pine wood...» In short: eyes closed and travel to foreign worlds!

Jean-Paul Brodbeck Trio «Extra Time»

Following an intensive creative phase as a sideman to the most diverse international musicians such as Johannes Enders, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Billy Hart and Andy Scherrer, in 2016 Jean-Paul Brodbeck formed his Swiss trio with the young bass talent, Lukas Traxel, and his long-standing companion, Claudio Strüby, on drums. Modern musical candour combines with the earthy spirit of the jazz tradition, Brodbeck&#x27;s new compositions define the program. One hears a melodious and flowing repertoire which celebrates the interactive playing and represents the art form of the «piano-trio» in its totality.
